Wednesday (2022)
Predictable and lame
First and second chapters were king of interesting. Third and fourth started to decline. During the the last chapters, I just forwarded fast to laugh at the predictable and lame scenes. The script becomes silly and a predictable checklist.
Acting in general is bad; maybe because the characters are bad and the actors could not do anything about it. Jenna Ortega is just ok as Wednesday, not as good as some rate it. At some point the character becomes hideous, specially when the writers betray the essence of Wednesday and the character becomes a psychotic Disney's princess.
Another shocking fact is that special effects regarding the monsters are not good.
In the end it becomes a laughable B series movie with a mixture of Harry Potter and X-men with a predictable checklist. A kind of harrypotterized Umbrella Academy (another bad series from Netflix)
Amor de madre (2022)
Quite entertaining
Carmen Machi is perfect, as she always is. There are some plotholes (e.g. Mauritians understand Spanish with strong Catalan accent depending on the convenience of the situation). I would have added a different ending so Sarah and José Luis meet after he spends some time back in Spain.
The sense of humor is sometimes cheap. It is not the best comedy ever, but it has some nice turns and it is quite entertaining. I rate 7.
La familia perfecta (2021)
In fact, it is not a comedy
The beginning was promising. It seemed the classical clash of classes with comical situations. Then the movie becomes a complete nonsense with many plotholes. The character Lucía evolves from comical to completely illogical.
In the end, it is more a movie about the evolution of the character of Lucía. The writers tried to disguise the movie as a comedy. However, the result is bad as comedy and bad as a movie about the evolution of Lucía.
My rate is 2, not 1 just because of the acting of José Coronado.
Russian Doll (2019)
Nothing makes sense in season 2
I really recommend season 1 but do not waste your time with season 2. Season 1 eight stars, Season 2 four stars (being generous). Nothing makes sense in Season 2 and after 3 episodes one does not care at all about the characters or what happens to them. They just do random things.
Ozark (2017)
Writers in the XXI century do not know how to close a series
Overall, it is a good series. First season was very good. Seasons 2 and 3 were quite good to my taste. I liked the character of Ben and I think the arc of this character was well presented was well presented.
Season 4 was different. Too many chapters with too many U turns that stop surprising and start annoying the viewer. They become arbitrary and challenging any logic. Wendy became a hideous character that completely annulated Marty. I don't find annoying that she did not become punished, I found annoying that the writers try to make her better in a forced pace at the beginning. This evolution in female characters is similar to other Netflix series, such as The Alienist (where the second season was completely ruined by destroying an awesome female character that became bad main and a good main character that became stupid). At some point I think the writers wanted to show that Wendy was dealing with similar mental problems as her brother and Marty should take care of her. That was interesting. I think the character of Wendy deserved better development after a good season 3.
Similar forced evolution for Jonah. Some scenes before the final he hated the guts of his mom (with good reason) and wants to put distance with his fader. Suddenly goes bananas about defending his family. I like characters that evolve. This is what I liked from Breaking Bad. But in Ozark characters evolve in a very forced way to wrap up the series.
I really liked the character of Ruth. However, I think that in Season 4, Julia Garner was overacting sometimes. But in seasons 1, 2, and 3 she is just perfect. I did not dislike the fate of Ruth. In the end it is the fate of the Langmore, ******* tragedy
Another problem is that there are several hanging plots (fate of Three, Zeke, etc).
To wrap up, I think that all series nowadays are written as sitcoms in which there is not a clear direction to which the characters go. It is ok for sitcoms, it is nonsense for series like Ozark. There are good characters in these series, but the last season of these series goes badly closed because with stupid U turns. I had the same feeling with Sons of Anarchy. In fact, I think that these continues U turns try to cheat the viewer hide they do not have a clear idea of how to close the series. I would say that the golden age of series passes with the last chapter of Breaking Bad.
