Wicked (1998)
Bad
I was not aware that Julia Stiles would do something like this, although I praise her for her acting skills. It is a good thing that this film was made before she hit it big. Unfortunately they keep showing this terrible film on hbo and cinemax. God help all those who have seen this film and to aide them from vomitting.
Cherry (1999)
Nice idea
The film is somewhat entertaining, but the greatest feature is Shalom Harlow's laughable performance. It has been 4 years since this movie was released and hopefully Harlow has gone through more training. Perhaps she should stick to the more worldly, somewhat corruptive characters that she has generated in other performances.
Pinocchio (2002)
Stick with it
I believe this film was a horrible choice for Roberto Benigni to follow "Life Is Beautiful" with. I went to see the film because I saw Benigni raving about it on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Apparently Benigni has not seen the dubbed US version because it's horrible. Although it has its fine points (cinematography) and low points (the whole story and acting), it's a rather twisted film that even Benigni cannot carry.
One thing they should have done was used subtitles because dubbing is just too silly. It was awfully hard to match Benigni's flamboyant body moves with Breckin Meyer's voice.
A Walk to Remember (2002)
Sappy
Although the movie was well scripted and fairly acted, it was very mushy and predictable. Those of you who didn't read the bestseller when it first arrived on bookshelves had no idea what you were getting yourself into, but for us we were quite surprised that the great book was adapted into a movie. This was an excellent choice for Mandy Moore to pick as her first starring lead role in a motion picture, and she is a fine actress with great learning talent. Shane West was excellent as the heartthrob/ bad-boy, but not a far departure from his current character on "Once and Again". All and all the movie was moderately good, but needed more substance and less reliability on the romantic element.
