The Holiday (2006)
Simply wonderful
I love, love, LOVE this movie. Great characters (except for the ex-boyfriends of course) and a wonderful cinematography. Meyers does it again.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Far from Perfect
The Marvel blockbuster success formula is definitely showing signs of wear and tear. While Tom Holland gives an amazing performance, I couldn't connect with the story and side characters. I feel like real character development in those pivotal coming-of-age moment was siderailed for bigger (and also more chaotic) fight scenes.
In contrast, the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man gave us the best on-screen chemistry between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy while Andrew Garfield was also given much better and deeper material to connect with. The scenes in which he struggled with the normal versus the super life were just that much meatier and better handled, not to mention the romance between him and Gwen. That scene at the clocktower will always be my number one Spider-Man moment precisely because of a deeply rich character development and superbe acting performances.
Here's hoping Phase IV will focus more on individual stories and favor character and plot development over bombastic CGI-heavy set pieces.
You Me Her (2016)
Simply wonderful
Four seasons in and I am still completely enthralled by the beautiful romance that is the Trakarsky-Silva thrupple and their surrounding quirky band of friends and family.
Each season has managed to consistently add great new side characters to engage with the thrupple. On top of that, I love seeing the thrupple deal with all the challenges that polyamory entails.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Great addition to the series
I know many don't particularly like this entry into the series, but I think they did a great job. The addition of Marcus Wright adds a real emotional depth to the story while also expanding on the Terminator mythology. All actors deliver excellent performances and seeing John and (pregnant) Kate adds yet another interesting layer to the cult of Connor. Sad they never got a chance to give this movie the sequel it deserved.
