Neat
21 October 2023
30 days of night for me is neither as good as and not as bad as some are saying, literally both sides are right at some point. Its an interesting and actually a good to watch vampire slasher styled movie (at least in my eyes). The best description of how it feels like is: "undercooked but tasty". Why is that?

Firstly, this is a movie about a residentals of small town in Alasca trying to survive a whole sunless month while being trapped with a band of blood craving vampires, thats it, simple and entertaining plot with addon of some little side threads that do not bother in watching film at all. (and i like it).

Simplicity is great, but not always, in terms of characters, 30 nights fails at bringing on screen memorable protagonist or at least villain, that are basicly doing nothing aside of the fact one is good and second is evil. This is a type of movie that actually needs a memorable characters that are more than "i am a bad vampire, and this is a good human", thats one of the mistakes that makes this movie not scary at all, and a bit souless, just climatic and gory (and i am an easy to scare guy).

Acting is not bad, its just acceptable, but its not enough at least for 1-2 major characters to be great.

Other major problems are weird and bloody action sequences that sometimes are just w-e-i-r-d and feel not the right way (not always), but you just need to see it yourself to maybe understand my point.

And music... Its a kind of movie that is desperately trying to bring memorable soundtrack and it does have problems with it. Sometimes there is to much of music or to much of silence, and when there is music, then its about to being forgotten instantly, basicly only a one of ending tracks is really fitting and just nice, no more.

But the really best part of this movie is this one: its CLIMATE, it managed to be a really climatic and is quite memorable with its looks, it feels like an actuall isolated for whole month and covered in snow town in what something did happened, place seems very real, detailed, and the feeling of loneliness is present, costumes and makeups are also great, i would say that whole situation presented in the movie is veeeeery convincing.

... A type of movie that at the same time disappoints you and overcomes your expectations, weird.

I think you could give it a shot, i've enjoyed it.

How to ruin the series
11 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We have there nothing new, just a cluster of series elements glued lazily into a caricature desperately trying to be a stunning ending. Another undeads in the plot that kinda feels like a bad "Curse of the black Pearl" remix.

While there was clearly said that Holender curse **can't** be taken off and no one knows how it could be achieved, a kid (Turner's son) just reads somewhere, literally out of blue that it can be solved by destroying the Trident, kinda random excuse for a plot... Then, suddently we get to know that Sparrow while giving away his compass frees undead spanish guys who wants get revenge on him, it borns a question, why it didn't happened any before? (lazy excuse for a villain, also considering that Sparrow sold his most compass to get drunk... What??) And Spanish guys are literally trying to be like Holender by terrorizing the sea on their way for him. But simply they are not as much creative, no Davy Jones..

Also, characters.. side guys are no longer funny and they also do not serve any purpose unlike in first 3 movies, and even 4th one (They even have bringed to live few characters that it was obvious they died somewhere in "On Stranger Tides"). Or lovebirds duo of Carina and Henry that as a copies of Elizabeth and Turner throught whole movie had less chemistry than Turner and Elizabeth that have showed up together at the end for 30 seconds on a screen, for a hug. Capitan Jack Sparrow is no longer a Capitan Jack Sparrow, he's just a constantly drunk clumsy, annoying kid in the playground, and everyone needs to keep an eye on him. All around acting is worse than in other movies of series, aside of Barbossa as he did great job.. and i am not even blaming actors, plot does not give them ability to shine. "Dead Men Tell No Tales" tries to be breathtaking by big cgi budget, but it fails to the point that they need to add slow motion to keep the tension up. Action sequences are chaotic, you cant see any clear about what is going on even if there is happening like 3 times less of stuff than in the "At Worlds End".. And dramatic aspect, movie tries to give a viewer few additional gasps by saying that Carina is Barbossa daughter or by killing Barbossa at the end as the only character in movie you care about in any way...

(Also music is really forgetable)

I will not even comment the laziest ending ever made, when all characters just shows up from nowhere in one place at the same time... like they just called each other between scenes and have planned meeting or something... Seriously, no epilogue, they just dropped characters in one box and said "now hug"

Its just insulting...

Actually a good sequel!
11 July 2023
Its nice to see a sequel of a succesfull movie that actually is not bad. The fact that "When Nature Calls" still manages to hold its original vibe and effective humour with interesting and simple plot while not copying whole of the first aside of Jim's good acting (he's simply still funny the same way) simply makes it a good comedy, guaranting as much fun as the first one.

Its not a brilliant or super intelligent wise movie with 7 layers or something, you just sit, relax, laugh, eat popcorn.. isn't it one of the movie purposes? Entertainment? Yes it is

And like seriously, there's nothing more to say about it, because there is no need for that. Just give it a try and if you liked first movie you wouldn't be disappointed. Same level...

Let kids be kids
20 February 2023
So there is a movie called Capitan Underpants.. and well, its a comedy not only for the kids that is able to make anyone laugh no matter of the age basing on simple toilet humour and childish jokes. This movie is surprisingly hilarous and fun to watch. But what is movie about? Under caricatural representation of life of the youngest and some hero-fantasy aspects, this short story shows how kids needs to be kids and that everyone have only one childhood per life. Its also a small reminder of how much meaningfull relationsships with others are for us and critique to what adults expect from kids to be like and how hurtful it sometimes can be for them... Shortly its a simple but smart lesson under cover of the simpliest humour and colourful visuals...

DLC for Harry Potter
20 February 2023
And here we are.

Another look on Harry Potter world but actually.. without Harry Potter? I would call this movie a failed mimic of original. Fantastic Beasts is a film that tries to be as exciting and creative as Harry Potter while keeping up its diffrent perspective on showed world.. and movie does it with mediorce, it turns to be an unstunning but not really bad fantasy production with some darkness and love to animals packed into simple, decent plot. We have some not really mindblowing ideas, good effects, not bad but not scene-breaking acting with one particular character actually being played way better than others... Is it worth to watch? Well, why not? But its a movie that works only at first look.. its not a kind of film that makes you jump from joy when you can rewatch it.. just a decent production for rainy boring day with youngers... but it will never be half as good as any Harry Potter movie so far..

I don't get critics
20 February 2023
We all know that not every movie is liked by critics but it doesn't mean that its a bad movie. Majestic is simply a warm, well acted and well written romantic drama. Its not Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind nor Titanic for sure, but if you like movies all around and want something to make your eyes drown into screen, then give a shoot to this small and underrated gem. I'm not even including Jim Carrey who again handled serious role as perfectly as he can.. and he can... I do not understand negative opinions from critics on this movie. Ignore them... Majestic is way better than they are saying, even after whole 22 years after release and its totaly worth a try.
