Downton Abbey (2019)
George V or Edward VII th ?
With all of the talented British actors available, I am amazed that neither Julian Fellowes nor his casting director could find anyone that looked more like George V and Queen Mary than the two chosen for his production.
The actor portraying George V looked much more like his white bearded and portly father, Edward VII th. And I don't recall Queen Mary ever having "big hair" as she did in this production. Since both characters had very limited speaking rolls, almost any look-alike actors would have done better in the roll.
The actors portraying George the Fifth and Queen Mary in the movie: "The Lost Prince" were perfection. I don't know why they or someone like them couldn't have been used for this production.
The Ottoman Lieutenant (2017)
Nice Movie But Not Remotely Similar To "The Promise"
It was a nice movie and well acted, but if one is looking for the Turkish Government's response to the movie, "The Promise", this movie doesn't come even close to countering the cruelty and savagery of the Turkish Ottomans toward the Armenian People. In fact, very little of the film has anything to do with the Armenian People. It has much more to do with the relationship between the Turkish government and the Christian Red Cross mission.
The movie does attempt to confuse and mitigate history by hinting that SOME Armenians may have joined with invading Russians during WWI to overthrow the Ottoman Empire. But this was well after the Ottomans had already begun the genocide of the Armenian People, so it was only natural that some might have seen the Russians as their liberators.
The movie goes out of its way to present the Muslim Lieutenant as the "good guy" in the film, but I suppose that would be normal being that he was the protagonist in the film. It only ascribes cruelty and genocide to a mere handful of possible renegade Turkish troops rather than government-sanctioned atrocities, as depicted in "The Promise".
The movie was very interesting and well done. But it is hardly the "antidote" to "The Promise".
Search for the Lost Giants (2014)
What A Waste of Time and Effort
What a dreadful waste of time this series is. It's right up there with the show several years back when Geraldo Rivera wasted hours opening a safe from the Titanic, only to find nothing in it.
It there truly was a Race of Giants, as these two brothers claim, with tombs and burial mounds all over the USA, then why can't they come up with as much as one damned skull to prove their hypothesis ??? They try to give their theory some kind of basis by linking it with Biblical myths about the Nephilim. What will their next series be? Finding Noah's Ark ???? And the acting is dreadful as well. When they are being told of some bone fragment found 50 years ago or viewing some lame rock carving their eyes are all bugged out like Japanese fighting fish.
They don't stay in one area for more than 15 minutes, but just hop from state to state and back again, confusing the heck out of the viewers and making totally baseless claims. All they need find is any kind of circular marking on any stone and it's automatically proof that Sun Worshipers were there 65 million years ago. And so what if they were. It still doesn't prove that they were giants.
Then they show you all of these supposedly sophisticated petroglyph's that look like art work from a kindergarten. These are hardly anything like the beautiful Lascaux Cave Paintings in France.
When all is said and done, they never find anything !!! I am amazed that they found sponsors !!!
America Unearthed (2012)
What A Waste of Time and Effort
They just lead you along by the nose for hours, thinking that you are actually going to see something real and concrete in support of their claims, but it never happens.
In one episode, they claim that the Knights Templars came to America in the 13th century, bringing with them treasure from Solomon's Temple. They craft elaborate graphics of castle foundations, supposedly taken by hi tech equipment. Then they have guys with metal detectors who claim that they have located 50 ounces of gold underground.
Well, first of all 50 oz. of gold equates to about 3 lbs, which is not all that much; maybe enough to craft a small crown, but certainly not enough to represent the treasures of Solomon's Temple. Plus, needless to say, they never find or show you the gold !!!!
On another episode, they find someone in Wisconsin who supposedly dug up a Viking sword. Needless to say, they don't focus the camera in on the sword very often, which is more the size and shape of a Civil War short sword than any Viking sword. Then they go to examine some 3 ton stone supposedly with runes on it, but when they get there, the stone has been stolen.
This entire series is a waste of time and not unlike when Geraldo Rivera kept us waiting for hours to open a safe brought up from the Titanic, and when it was opened, there was nothing in it but rotting, soggy currency.
