Hijack (2023)
Meh!
I really wanted to like this series - and watched the first two episodes with an open mind. Whilst it is just watchable - the script (and much of the acting) is woeful. I presume that the writers have never been to an airport or on an aircraft before. It feels like it has been totally dumbed down for an audience that doesn't want to think or engage with an intelligent plot. I will persevere to see if it improves, but I'm not expecting too much. This looks like a series that will disappear into obscurity pretty quickly. Generally disappointed with Apple productions to date - lots of glitter without the gold.
Dead for a Dollar (2022)
Dead for a Dollar Budget
With the title I thought I might be getting a reimagined Spaghetti Wester - but unfortunately not. The script felt rushed - the acting was wooden and the movie was totally without tension. All the fight scenes were rushed, and there was little character development. Christoph Waltz struggles to convince as an expetienced bounty hunter and his supposed nemesis played by Willem Defoe is a little too likeable. It feels as though everything about this film was rushed, from the script writing through to the production, the direction and the acting! Even the few action sequences are rushed - with zero tension!
Ted Lasso: Carol of the Bells (2021)
What happened to the laughs?
I really enjoyed the first season of Ted Lasso, it was quirky and there was lots of commedy to be teased out of the cultural and sporting differences between the US and UK. Ted's unfailing optimism and the focus on the team's performances was the glue that held season one together. Season two has been dissapointing so far - so I'll be a goldfish in the hope of making it to the season finale and in the hope that the writers might refind their spark for the inevitable third season.
Get some new characters in to spice up the humour a bit rather than recycling the annoying badly acted Roy who should have retired from the screen after season one!
