The Blacklist: The Man in the Hat (2023)
And the man in the hat came back
I would have given this a 9, maybe 10. But Siya and her stuff is boring and not worth the time nor effort. Who cares about anything to do with her. Didn't really click with her, especially not when she decided to join the team. I don't care about any stupid, pointless storyline associated with her.
Reddington is the best as always, as is Dembe. Growing to not find the others of the team quite as annoying as they were at times during the early parts of the season (so glad Elizabeth went).
Great episode making you question what you may or may not have seen. Interesting the way things worked out. Generally great episode if it wasn't for the Siya stuff.
Legends of Tomorrow: The Fixed Point (2022)
Did we just put "Ace" into the start of WWI?!
Very interesting concept. Love the idea that even if you want to go back in time and change "fixed points in time", like the assassination, Hitler coming to power, the development of the Roman Empire, the birth of Christ (depending where you stand) that it's really difficult to change that point. Also, great idea of a pub where everyone tries to stop the event. (Though confused as to how Sara can keep coming back even when killed in the attempts! Even though previous once were removed from time I.e. The Asian guy who is blown up. (Asian guy in 1914 Sarajevo and no one gives him a second look?!)
But, this seriously important point in history, they introduce Spooner as "A sexual" wow!
Also, look at some of the "gaffs" for this episode. Especially stop the bomb, no need to change direction and be left open to being shot!
And also changing a fixed point.....would have a massive effect on history (and again, they forget why they are meant to be "legends of tomorrow", no matter how wrapped up in their own stuff that they are)
Legends of Tomorrow: Lowest Common Demoninator (2022)
They are having fun in their death throws
You like reality tv shows (basically Big Brother) you may like this and see some funny side to it. But I believe most people that watch this show either from origin or those that seem to think seasons 6 & 7 (up to now) are the best, probably don't really enjoy reality shows....
Also, for me, making all the characters (except Gideon, Gwyn, and probably Nate) make me hate them even more!!!!
They really just seemed to go all out and write and do whatever they want, especially in this season. Probably knew there wasn't going to be a new season. I still think that maybe they could keep the writers on and continue in the same vein with "Social Justice Women in Time (and Space)" as the last two seasons haven't been "Legends of Tomorrow", just keeping it all as they have been doing. Or last episode gave us "Android Legends of Tomorrow" which could work too....but they totally killed "Legends of Tomorrow" over the last two seasons.
Legends of Tomorrow: Paranoid Android (2022)
Finally an episode to like the majority of the new class
Finally, an episode that I actually enjoyed all the dross characters that they have been feeding us over the last two seasons, of course "evil Gideon" chose to pick the "evil/robot legends" all from the current crop, rather than some of the originals, but seemed to use some of their personas. None of them actually annoyed me, and I could seriously watch a sho with them as "Android Legends of Tomorrow" but only with reprogrammed "assassin Sara".....actually the only time I've liked her.
Actually, ditch the current characters, and let's have "Android Legends of Tomorrow", I'd watch that. As long as they kept it to the original idea of Legends but with today's android cast.
Or use your time travel ability, and go back to season 6, change the name to "Social Justice Women in Time (and Space)" and use the current cast and extended it into 5 seasons of its own stuff.
Sorry, rants again.
Love the idea of this episode, and actually made the "new class" likable at last! Though no John/Gwyn (though of course he has to be gay) or Rory.....but still started to like the "new class" characters. Even Astrid! (Sure a little bitter, as I foresaw that, as soon as she started learning magic, Constantine was done.)
Legends of Tomorrow: A Woman's Place Is in the War Effort! (2021)
Just Wow!!
Loving Davis character. Amazing actor, shame it's not John. Loving Gideon. Even Gary is making me warm to him a little. Spooner....ok. Nate still Nate.
None of the others are actually Legends any more. Ava tries (pathetically to respond to "don't leave footprints in the time line"), but seriously! Since season 6 it's more about relationships and everyone pairing off with each other. And, hey babe, you know, it's just like all about how great women are babe, and this episode is another one babe, that just shows how much superior women are to pathetic, stupid, controlling men, babe!
I was liking the episode, but of course, we have to have evil bad white straight man. The "social Justice Women in Time" (as the show should have changed it's name to in season 6) come in and change things again, but it ok to change timelines as long as it's to help women, and now women of minorities. No wonder the "evil" Gideon (or Gideon that actually does the job of "Legends of Tomorrow" originals.....wait is that what we have been building up to over the last two seasons?!? Seriously, just change the name of the show, and maybe it wouldn't grate and frustrate so bloody much!)
Also, to take untrained staff and to believe that they could build a plane in the same time as those that had been trained is belittling the effort and skills of those women that built machinery during WWII!!
These last two seasons babe (oh my god!!! How annoying is that!!! Why?! "Hey babe" "Yeah babe" But you know, it's ok, as they are lesbians so it's all good) have been so.......aaarrghhh!!!! Did they choose to just take two seasons of tongue in cheek taking the piss out of itself, with cartoony dialogue, and cartoony modern stereotypes?! Again, just change the name of the show "Social Justice Women in Time (and Space)" for example.
I miss the original Legends that actually tried not to disrupt the timeline just because they were caught up in their own dramas.
Legends of Tomorrow: Speakeasy Does It (2021)
New equality
Wow!! I am struggling through this season. Last season was basically the start, but this season!!!!
Men are stupid, idiotic, and pathetic. White men are all bad and stupid (except Nate and Gary, they just fall into the first category)
Women are all strong, sensible, smart, powerful, always right, and constantly oppressed and victimized (though those last two seem contradictory to the previous pushed points)
Seasons 6 and 7 has just been so much of this tripe!!! I thought we were meant to be aiming for some kind of equality in life, society, and movies and films! All this show has become is a complete imbalance and bu11sh1t!!!
Again!!! Changing the timeline doesn't matter any more. Especially if it is (again) to help a woman out!!! Sooooo much having to reset of timelines based on season 6 and 7! Oh! Yeah, that's right, it's not really Legends of Tomorrow anymore, it's more "Women Kick Ass in Time (and Space)"
Legends of Tomorrow: wvrdr_error_100 not found (2021)
Reminder of how badly things changed
Great episode only because we get to see all the people that made this show great, before the major downward spiral from season around season 5ish to the joke of a show we have now.
Great to see all those older characters, that may have had little flaws, but no where near the annoyance that almost all of the new characters are.
Gideon the best thing in this episode, along with the flash backs of the old teams. Can't believe the annoying big bad from last season is still on the go!!! Only watching through this most frustrating, annoying, and pointless b0ll0cks of a season as I made it this far. Though so much eye rolling for the stupidity, dumb dialogue, and frustration of how the show has become, is such a constant!
Again, why do they not care about screwing up the timeline!!! Spooner's mom should be dead! But hey, it's ok! This episode just points out how far they have moved from what the show was originally! Basically NONE of the current characters are "Legends", (except maybe Nate. Of course Gideon. Sara if I must (but never really liked her character)) It was getting hard to watch since mid season 5, but at least we had Rory and John.
Legends of Tomorrow: Bishop's Gambit (2021)
Slowly losing what it was I watched this for
The first 3seasons or so were great. Interesting ideas, interesting development, interesting balance of characters and their creation too.
This season is so "wtf" almost every episode, and the main great characters, and some of those that replaced others, have slowly been taken out. Also.... I get it! All women great, powerful, better than men.....but seriously you don't need to lay it on so thick, an make all the men weak and pathetic!!! Even big bad....oh that's right it's a man....still generally comes out as pathetic!
Equality doesn't really seem to exist any more, only belittling!
Sara....again....the story has gone on too long! Who cares! Can we ever go back to what the show was in the first 3 seasons?!
Or maybe, just called it something different from basically this season
Gideon is still great 😊
Legends of Tomorrow: The Satanist's Apprentice (2021)
Really?!? What is this now?!
They really should have changed the name of the show from when they ditched most of the original characters. At least then I may accept and watch it without eye rolls and "WTF" almost every 5 mins!!!
John and Rory are basically the only reasons I keep watching. John was always a reason to watch, as loved his own show, but they ended it too soon.
Rory is the only thing that keeps this linked from the original show.
The original show was great, a great idea, greatly played out. Now it is just a tongue-in-cheek trip fest. It should have a new name. Plus, reducing John to no longer what he should be!!!
Sara.....come on.....it's just boring now....going to drag it out until almost the finale!!! Jeez! I see why it apparently dies at season 7....it totally lost direction.
This episode.... I get the making fun of all the cartoon princesses....hahaha.....but not why I started watching this show! Trying to do the weird fun Supernatural episode thing, but failing so hard on almost every attempt.
Astra sucks so much.....and not getting on board with so many of these "new" characters and the "new direction"....and again....why make John suck....why can't we just be done with the Sara story.....never really cared when she went missing....even Gary is more interesting and more fun
But why do that to John.......
The Bureau of Magical Things: Almost Famous (2021)
The Buffy musical episode
I liked the first season, as it was interesting, the characters slowly grew on me, even those that were a little annoying. This season has started ok, except the worrying increase of music being played more and more in each episode, thing "Holly Hobbie" or "4 o'clock club" (that last also started focusing way too much on songs than a story). This episode is just way too much!
The Buffy Musical episode was kinda good as it was done well, was one of the first to do so, and was a one off of having songs in an episode, in a show that doesn't need songs!!!
Please!!!! Why do we need songs in these shows, especially when it never had them before and it is not necessary. In fact takes away from the story....and general feel of the whole show. Sure magic, sure makes people sing, sure that's a thing, but please.....really!! Run out of ideas for the show and struggled to make 10 episodes!!!
Warrior Nun (2020)
Warrior Nun....a nun(though technically she isn't) who is a warrior
Watched both seasons, not read the comic (though half wish I had, and half not, as apparently it's only kinda based on the comic)
I started watching as it seemed like an intriguing and interesting concept, that I hoped would do a lot.
Season one was a little slow, but introduces you to the characters, the world they live in, and some of the hardships that are faced. Ava (main character) can be a little annoying and overly teen angst at times. But she is trying to deal with a lot of changes....is that an excuse though.....and too many "woe is me" monologues or dialogues about how bad everything is for her.
All very beautiful to look at, with some amazing scenery. Plus, the cast try hard, act well, and show some good chemistry. Just the dialogue and over use of "everything sucks for me" brings it down a little. I actually would have put W. N. at an 8 after season one. Though it does have quite a lot of the old Buffy feel about it, it still has an interesting slant on things.
Season 2.....well.....more action and a very interesting introduction of a big bad. Also, some fairly good cgi. The dialogue has got a very slightly bit better, though still more "woe is I! How don't people realize how bad my life is and how hard done by I am" not just from the main character, but now almost everyone has to have their moment doing this, at least once. Is it possible nowadays to character develop without these boring, long, dialogues?
Also, we are introduced to the fact that men are weak in mind, spirit, and body, as well as being the main reason for everything bad in the world. And women are super smart, strong, ignored, defeat all against them (unless it's another woman) easily, and generally are so superior to all men, even an angel. But hey, I'm still hoping and waiting for a time when we may actually get some equality of gender characters. Plus, where main characters don't have to fall in love with each other, as you know, it's ok to be friends and care for each other! Isn't it? Those nuns have some amazing power to turn someone who was chasing guys in the whole of one season, and the beginning of the second. Unless of course Ava was just leading Beatrice on...but surely not....
I get Ava has special powers (sometimes....) but she stomps on a male angel, while struggles against a turned nun/demon. Oh, and another female saves the day too. I get that nuns are the main focus, and no issue with them destroying lots of bad guys, they are highly trained and all....but season 2 just steps even further away from gender equality characters.
So much just seems agenda driven, or long drawn out "woe is I and all of life, which no one understands how I suffer" dialogues (from almost every one at some point) that each episode can be watched in about 15-20mins if you skip those bits.
I give season 2 about a 6. Though the action lifts it (more action and interesting takes on certain things than season 1), but other elements just pull it back down. You can see the love and effort that the whole team put into it, with some great acting and connections between characters, but it is let down by so much of the dialogue.
I don't understand why there are so many 10 reviews, as to be a 10 it has to be something truly special.....this isn't that. It's good and entertaining, and pushes to a 7 (balanced out over the two seasons) Does there need to be a season 3?!? I thought it ended quite nicely. But according to all those 10 reviews out there, it needs more.
Wednesday: You Reap What You Woe (2022)
The Addams Family, Ortega, and Burton, worth it.
I've never been hugely into The Addams Family, remember watching the old one in black and white a few times. Never really got into the Addams Family movies either. But this! This is just amazing, and even tempts me to go and watch the Addams Family more.
A wonderful show focusing on story and characters, (rather than some of the modern stuff that needs to push certain agendas), and is so binge worthy.
Wonderfully shot with excellent dark "gothic" feeling. You can feel the genius of Burton all over it, and has his usual vibe pulsing through it.
Worth watching just for Jenna Ortega's fantastic, creative, portrayal of Wednesday Addams. Characterization beautifully developed and maintained, and you get lost in the fact that she isn't Wednesday. Self-assured, morbid, dark, humour and sarcastic, a little arrogant, cold, and reserved, but with slight moments of more under the protective shell. (Episode 6 I believe is the first time she blinks (though I'm sure most before that is editing), and it is there for a reason) Truly Ortega is totally amazing in this!! <3
Supporting cast are all basically great too. Christie as principal, gets a mention, but she's generally great in everything she is in, Myers (who I don't know) is great in her role as the contrasting roomy, Ricci, I wasn't aware it was her at first, great characterization, and love the fact that she played Wednesday in the movies....little cross-over, Zeta-Jones and Guzman are a great portrayal of Morticia and Gomez, Lindhorne brings a touch of her usual quirkiness to her role, and Thing (Dorobantu) does a stunning job as just a hand! So much expression and humour!
Netflix finally did something extremely well! Don't screw it up!
I had big hopes for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which I feel slowly died, and I've barely started season 2 as I lost interest. I want to watch more of Wednesday, and I'm even a little sad that there are only 8 episodes.
If you like the Addams Family (especially because of Wednesday), if you liked the good elements of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, if you like the vibe of Beetle Juice, and most other films that Burton directs or has an important roll in, if you like Jenna Ortega (or if you've never seen her before, but love actors that become their character), if you love quirky, school for those of special abilities/folklore, mystery solving, touch of creepiness, then just watch two episodes, and I'm sure you'll get hooked! (Sure, it has elements of so many things that are already out there, been done before, but there is just something special and magical about this.)
Mother/Android (2021)
Chloe good as always
The movie wasn't all that great, wasn't all that new, and does have some flaws (like why so desperate to get to Korea, as that is a safe space, but surely if the issue is with all androids trying to remove human life, do the writers really thing Korea is that far behind the US with technology?!? Having lived there for a little while, I can tell you that they are more advanced than the UK in some aspects. Plus, Asia is safe?!? Anyone seen the technology in Japan? Of course it could be North Korea....but still some issues)
As for the movie itself, I didn't find it as terrible as so many reviews suggest here. Maybe I just have a lower expectation than most. I enjoy movies that remove me from modern life, and this tells a story that does that. There are some interesting parts, especially the warning about reliance on AI, and the Arthur character. There are some questions that some reviews ask, that if they were actually watching we answered or suggested (spoiler: getting onto the base in Boston without a full check, was because G was in mid-birth and unconscious, plus Sam was bleeding out, so I'm guessing they were more concerned with getting them treated)
Like I said, there were some other questionable actions, flaws etc, but most are given reasons or suggestions for them.
For me, it was a good move to watch while passing sometime. Will I watch it again, maybe...sometime in the future. Will I rave about it to my friends.... I doubt it. But it was a terrible film, and Chloe is great.
Rumspringa (2022)
Refreshing for the current climate
Was a great fun movie, with a positive vibe on how there is a happy balance that we should all aim for between modern technology life, and the extreme backward/purist way of life. Sure it may have been seen before, but the Amish take on things was kinda fun. Watched in English translation as was lazy and didn't want to read, but willing to watch again in German to get the true feeling from the actors.
I've read reviews that want an LGBTQ+ result, based on two guys becoming friends. I remember when you could be friends without it having to result in a relationship, no matter what gender. Closeness doesn't equal relationship, it's ok and normal to be a friendship, no matter how close. Hey, I live those every day.
