Batman Begins (2005)
Hands Down...The BEST comic movie I've ever seen!!! Hats off to Christopher Nolan.
Please, Please, Please, keep this director for the next 3 Batman movies! I love most comic movies. When I say most, that means some leave me pretty disappointed...as the past 3 Batman movies had. They were just "ok", but they really didn't leave you impressed with the storyline. The fact they flip-flopped so many actors in the past to play the part really left the character cold as his bat cave. They were just a lot of Hollywood flash and spectacle; a real waste of Jack Nicholson's major talent...he'd be awesome as the Joker in the next one (wonder who will be the next one?) If they do run this series of flix; they have got to keep the director...my recommendation for the Riddler would be Johnny Dep...he'd lend a new twist to things. Jim Carry was just too weird. Spiderman and Superman used to be my favorite but my favorite now just blew those two out of the water!
Scooby-Doo (2002)
Quite funny and entertaining...
Took my 5 year old daughter (the movie nut) and wasn't bad not the greatest, but not bad either. However if your the type of parent that is offended or disgusted with a parady that plays on flatulence or belching (like my wife), then I would not recommend going. Not that there is a lot, just one scene, but its quite a scene. I thought it was funny, haven't scene a flatulence scene like it since Blazing Saddles.
I have to hand it that Matthew Lillard really pulled off Shaggy perfectly and the movie was basically like watching one of the cartoons. Besides Scooby and Shaggy, Velma was the next best character. Freddy Prince Jr. as Fred though, I mean come on get a clue! He's not beefy enough, and Fred never had any vanity issues.
The Mystery Machine van was pretty cool, and all the old lingo from the toon was there, Zoinks, Jeegies, etc. Go and have fun with it!
Snow Dogs (2002)
Not the movie your led to believe you'll see...
It's not often enough that that the theatres comeout with a family movie, and its a shame that the entertainment business hasn't realized that it is a lucrative untapped area, because when a good family movie comes out, usually parents will take the kids to see it at least twice, like Monsters, Inc. or even more like my nephew who's seen Harry Potter already 10 times. I as an adult, only see great movies only once in theatresm (but I'm tempted to go see Lord of the Rings again).
Disney for the most part has comeout with really great entertainment, Monsters, Inc. was really fun, and Emporer's Groove still puts me in stitches. I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to fumble around in the dark with "SNOW DOGS". In a nutshell, the previews and commercials LEAD you to believe that its a movie about these sled dogs.
My wife and I took our 5 year old daughter expecting to see something along the lines of Dr. DoLittle and Babe, where the dogs actually play the biggest part of the movie. NOT SO! Instead its a below-average movie with no real surprises and easily read into along this yawning journey. My 5 year old was so squirmy and bored with this flick she asked if we could leave. This picture is just barely worthy of being aired on TV during Disney's Sunday movie. Don't wast your money, in going to see it or going to rent it, which should be on shelves within the blink of an eye. Hey Disney, I want my $20 bucks back!
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Special effects are really sensational with the story to boot...
An outstanding movie, an outstanding piece of work. My wife and I started reading the book before the movie because we heard it would be a bit hard to follow. It wasn't at all. I only got through the first 2 chapters and she got close to the end before we decided to go. She wanted to refrain from reading the whole story so she would at least have a suprise ending. Just pay close attention to the story and you'll get it.
I really do believe that Ian McKellen could very well take best actor for Gandalf (At his age and for that work was just amazing) and Peter Jackson should get best director definately (to take the story of JRR Tolkein and breath life into the screen like that takes a master. . If you only see one movie, go and see "Lord of the Rings"
The only thing I disliked is that they really left you hanging in the end, but hey thats the story and there are two other movies to follow. This movie is just as worthy as status of classic as "Star Wars" Trilogy. Can't wait to see part 2!
