Work on aircraft engines and love design and anything mechanical.
When a teen, my best mate, who was mad on special effects in film, dragged me along to see hundreds of films often so he could see just one effect in the film. Consequently I saw films like Earthquake in Sensurround (In selected theatres)and Towering Inferno to Bullitt and the Exorcist (after which I didn't sleep properly for two weeks)and anything in between you can mention, Freebie and the Bean, thats another. During my first marriage I became quite a Trekkie (loved the TV series) and went again to the cinema to see all the movies (up until Captain Kirk hung up his phaser that is). I always enjoy a good science fiction film and have seen quite a few in the cinema. I haven't been to the cinema so much since then. Now in my second marriage (going well, thanks for asking) we have taken the kids to various films hence I really appreciate films that are primarily aimed at children having enough ooomph to satisfy me too. My favourite of the modern era being Toy Story and The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie although I liked Pirates of the Carribean very much but not the sequals so much. I bought Close Encounters . . as a DVD recently having loved the movie on release but found it not as good as I'd remembered it - sad that. I have quite a DVD collection being a huge fan of the Alien series and Terminator as well. You could say I have very broad tastes in film but am also very critical when I think an opportunity was missed to make a great film.
My 100% most favourite fim ever? Blade Runner.
Anyway, that's me - Hi!

Miss Potter (2006)
Very good but could have been so much more
I have long been a fan of Miss Zelwegger and find her accent extraordinarily good considering how difficult it is to capture. I think the way she portrayed Beatrix is her style, you like it or not. But good as I think she was in the part, Emily Watson would have been perfect. She not only looked very like Beatrix but had an almost 'mad eyed' intensity and deliberately 'plain' looks that would have far better captured Miss Potter. Others have commented on the lack of plot and the known outcome, but this is obvious isn't it? For any true-life story of a well known person rarely is the outcome unknown. And unless they experienced a momentous life, the film aspires to add detail and show events that influenced the subject and made them do things or turn out like they did. Anything else and everybody would be complaining about the lack of accuracy! I felt the love affair was very movingly portrayed and was a previously unknown aspect for me. My wife wishes they had rounded the film off by showing her marriage as could have been another quite moving scene.
Snow Dogs (2002)
What a lost opportunity!
This film could have been great. There are plenty of great family films out there that have multi-age appeal, so why did they write such a dud? Usually I would never buy a film unless I'd seen it first but we bought this movie on DVD because my daughter had seen it at the cinema and thought it great. I was hugely disappointed. As others have said, the dogs are beautiful and are well managed. The scenery is equally fantastic. But the pointless characters - why are they included? The terrible slapstick 'comedy', why is there so much? And the plot, you could have got away with the sheer predictability of it if the comedy had been better written - it can be done - why waste thousands of dollars making a film you would only want to see once?
