Bill Nye Saves the World (2017–2018)
7/10
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
1 July 2023
Bill Nye Saves the World, it's cringy, it's awkward, and it wouldn't be Bill Nye if it wasn't. It's the classic bill nye show made for an older audience and it's a blast.

Bill Nye really sells his stuff off of his personality and his absolute love of his work. If it was anybody else I couldn't see the show working at all. Bill Nye has such a way with captivating you with their love for the topic, you can't not fall in love with it too. So if you're not a Bill Nye fan... get help.

This being Bill Nye it obviously has all the aforementioned pitfalls (the cringe), but my biggest problem is it's very surface level when it comes to the topics. Obviously that's not a problem with if you're unfamiliar with the topics, but if you are familiar it's gonna feel very basic.

Ultimately... Of course I recommend the show, it's Bill Nye! How could anyone not?

A Pretty Great Continuation
1 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Louder and prouder is probably the perfect sequel, It's honestly like the original never ended. Aside from the animation style of course. It keeps the wacky political story's of the original, diving into the into the modern political topics that have become more widely known since the original show.

The show, being so similar to the original, obviously has all the same great aspects of it. The story's are still really fun and wacky, and the characters are all still great. However The new characters I found to be less compelling and unfortunately, the show occasionally fumbles it's political messages.

The episode where the famous guy only dates white chicks is the only example worth noting as its a really weird one and the message is not clear at all. I believe the idea was that you shouldn't let petty arguments about a crush get between you and your friends, as thats what the B plot was all about and ultimately what penny says to bring the friend group back together. The problem is bringing race into the conversation muddled the waters and made the point very unclear. Ultimately I think it would have been best to leave that aspect out entirely.

However an occasionally bad episode doesn't really effect the series to much and it's definitely a show I recommend. I would say to original is just slightly better but that's very possibly just because of nostalgia.

Long story short, check it out.

A surprisingly compelling show given the original
1 July 2023
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is pretty great. It's a cute drama about stopping an evil fascist empire from destroying the world, and a hole lot of sapphic energy on the side.

The characters are well written, the the conflict is well written, I personally find the color palette really pretty. The only real negatives are it's not a particularly deep show, and the art style took a little bit to get used to.

Compared the the original show it's an immense improvement. There isn't really a reason to watch the original as it's pretty much a glorified toy commercial, but She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a very fun watch that I highly recommend.

A rather bad movie mad even worse by the way it depicts minorities
7 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In truth this movie is a 0/10. The movie is notoriously bigoted. Even trying the judge the movie beyond just the bigoted aspects, it's clear that it's still just a bad movie.

The live action scenes are deeply unenjoyable filled the the brim with strange and uncomfortable topics for a kids movie that's supposed to be fun. There's a scene where a kid threatens to drown a puppy and it's a running bit throughout the movie. The live action segments are just bad and there's no way to defend them.

The animation scenes, while being considerably better than the live action segments, they're still flawed. Ultimately the animation segments biggest flaw (besides the obvious) is it's just mostly mediocre. They serve as a nice break from the live action segments but there's nothing that really compels you.

In conclusion: Racism is bad and do not watch this movie.

Velma (2023– )
2/10
A bad adaptation and a poor show
6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Velma is a terrible Scooby Doo adaptation, as it shares very little with the rest of the Scooby Doo properties. Beyond the character names, with exception of Norvell who's lost his nickname of shaggy. There's also the mystery machine which does eventually make an appearance as well as there being a mystery throughout the series. Everything else we've come to expect from Scooby Doo is absent right down to the titular dog itself.

Velma is also a poorly written show. With the mystery from example, we're given clues relatively at random with them being solved almost immediately. It's hard to get invested in a mystery as an audience member if you don't have an opportunity to peace the mystery together yourself.

However a poor mystery can be forgiven if the characters are compelling enough. Unfortunately the character writing suffers worse that the mystery. Velma is a self centered and manipulative character which isn't inherently a problem however Velma never learns from her character flaws. Instead she stays like this for the entire series making her character just unpleasant. The rest of the Scooby gang are similarly written.

Starting with Norville, his characterization is actually pleasant for the most part, he's kind and considerate. He has a few character flaws like his unhealthy obsession with Velma but the show does have a character arc where he gets over that (kinda).however his character is written kinda inconsistent. For example there's a scene where Velma and Norvell discover that a white man was falsely imprisoned and Norvell says "but doesn't it feel good that a white guy was falsely imprisoned for a change?". Which given his character it seems like Velma should have said that and Norvell should have responded with something along the lines of "I don't think anyone should be falsely imprisoned".

Next is Fred and his character as rather simple. He's an immature rich kid who's also kinda racist. Thankfully he too goes through character growth and while he doesn't solve his problems he does take steps towards improving. There really isn't much of a problem with Fred beyond him being a bit annoying and the jokes they do with him not really being funny.

Finally we have Daphne. Surprisingly the best character in the show. She's a poor kid trying to make it with the rich kids whilst also trying to find her bio parents. She by far the most consistently written character as well. Whilst there's still some significant problems with her she's a well enough written character with a solid side story even if the ending is weak.

In conclusion: this show isn't very good and there's not much of value but if you do find yourself watching it, what little good is in there will keep you entertained enough.

Alien 3 (1992)
1/10
An otherwise decent movie with a single critical flaw
5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is for the most this is a rather good movie. The action was all in all pretty good. The set design is as good as the first two movies. And the horror while not on the level of the first movie or even the second movie, it's still decent enough. The decision to kill Newt, Bishop, and Hicks within the first few seconds is a strange decision but ultimately one that I don't inherently have a problem with.

So why the 1/10? Well there's a nude scene with a child. The child isn't real thankfully, which is the only reason it's not a 0/10 but it's repulsive nonetheless.

Ultimately I wouldn't watch this movie. The entire movie is ruined by a single scene, it's just not worth watching.
