Prometheus (2012)
A question or two answered, more opened.
It's interesting reading other reviews and how venomous some are. OK, I agree with some points, one why was Charlize Theron in the movie? Anyone could have played her role and yes there are some stretches of the imagination, walking after abdominal surgery and so on.
One thing frequently mentioned is the stupidity of these aliens creating us then wanting to destroy us. It's not entirely clear that they actually created us, or should I say the engineers found, did it. The only clue is the spacecraft depicted at the very beginning of the movie, it's not the same as the one we later see. Who was the character who drank the DNA and died giving life to humanity? If that's what the scene is.
That's the myth of Prometheus, who stole fire from the god Zeus and gave it to the mortals, in this case the engineer who stole this material, didn't know what it does (maybe) and brought forth humanity . . . an accident. To me he looked like he escaped from the ship or was left there to die. It's clear the alien engineers are aware of us due to many visitations documented by ancient cultures during different time periods. At least for now, that's my take on why they would want to destroy us, they didn't actually create us, it was an accident and now we are a threat.
I enjoyed the movie and wonder how it links to Alien, at least we know how Weyland industries is aware of, maybe not an organism but the biotechnology found in these ships and why they send the Nostromo to investigate a seemingly random transmission. I doubt the crashed ship in this movie is the same as in Alien, otherwise who put the Spacejockey into his seat and helmet.
There are three more ships left and I suspect we're coming back to LV223 in a sequel. As I said more questions than answers. As for character development, really? Is that why we went to see this movie? Yes, it could have been better but as a few people mentioned I'm sure Ridley had to cut the movie down . . . I hope so. It felt rushed in places, like something was cut here and there. We'll see.
One last thing, look out for the soundtrack nod to the original Jerry Goldsmith Alien score during the Weyland hologram message in the mission briefing scene.
Two and a Half Men: One False Move, Zimbabwe! (2011)
The new worst
You know I've tried and tried to like this new season. I'm not about to say that every episode with Charlie Sheen was great but up until season 8 the situations the guys found themselves in were somewhat believable . . . I mean that's what makes good comedy, you have to believe in it somehow, tha't it's plausible.
This whole thing with Walden being raised in the early part of his childhood with a gorilla is a new low of dumb ideas. It's like the writers are desperately trying to find something to do with him.
The cheesy meeting at the end with the adult gorilla was awful. If this keeps up they won't be able to save the show.
I hated the Manny Quin story arc, but this makes that funny.
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (2006)
Where's the ending?
My problem with Shadow Chronicles is where's the ending? It was touted as answering the question of what happened to Rick Hunter and the SDF-3 but we still don't know.
I have no problem with the animation like other people seem to, though it does come off as being a little too slick. The film itself seems to be more of a prologue setting up the storyline for a series which has not eventuated.
I agree with other reviewers on the feeling of being ripped off and not getting to see our old favorites from the Macross Saga. I know a few of the characters were killed off in the Sentinels novels. Why not finish off the Sentinels story arc? There's so much they can do with Robotech.
Two and a Half Men: A Fishbowl Full of Glass Eyes (2011)
Where are the laughs?
I keep watching the show in the hopes of some good belly laughs . . . nothing yet. This is the worst episode so far, nothing funny. Please give us more Jake and less Walden who has got to be the unfunny character in the show.
There were so many different ways to replace Charlie, but I mean really a rich guy letting Alan live with him is nonsense. First rule of comedy is be believable. What's happened to Alan? He's become a complete moron of a moocher, with no shame at all. He barely even tries to hide his intentions. Sadly it is becoming clear that the chemistry that existed between Charlie, Alan and Jake is what made the show work, why? They were a dysfunctional family.
There really is no reason for this show to be.
Two and a Half Men: People Who Love Peepholes (2011)
Improve the writing
I am giving this season a chance, but I don't see it going to 10 unless they change the writing. Ashton's character is not funny at all, Alan needs another Charlie type character.
Charlie was the comedian and Alan the straight man, mix in the sibling rivalry and you have a team.
Walden is so stupid it's not funny to watch. I hope he evolves, I want to like it, but at the same time it is easy to see how Charlie could be brought back too.
Alan seems lost, the only two scenes I laughed at in the entire episode were:
a/ Alan hearing his mom in the bedroom.
b/ Alan chasing after the girl who was looking for Charlie yelling "Charlie's dead Walden's married, what's wrong with me?" At least that's classic Alan.
The other thing that bothers me is the reusing of actors, wasn't Walden's wife once Herb's sister? Come on guys DVD makes it obvious.
Fingers crossed they find their legs. The first two eps so far feel rushed together and not so well thought out.
