Wrong Turn (2021)
Perfect Example of Terrible Characters in Movies
This movie is one of my prime examples for terribly written characters. One thing to learn; YOU CAN'T MAKE A CHARACTER PURELY FROM A STEREOTYPE AND ONE EMOTION- and for the love of filmgoers, make the characters smarter!! It is true that in moments of stress or fear, our reasoning does go a bit behind on the rest of our thinking, BUT COME ONNN!!
Spoilers from here on out:
Why did they all agree to leave the trail? Why didn't someone put a marker of some kind OR had 2 people wait behind for them on the trail?? When the tree was falling down on them, why didn't they run at an angle to the other side so that they could EVADE the tree and not just constantly run in front of it eventually getting tired and getting crushed? That's one stupid death- but we're supposed to root for people who are just plain dumb?? They were looking for one girl (forget their names) and then get caught in a bunch of traps and KILL A DUDE, and then she comes back like "I was just going to the bathroom-" HOW FAR AWAY WERE YOU??? THEY WERE ALL SCREAMING YOUR NAME! Also the guy who killed the other in self defence needs some serious therapy if that's what he calls "self defence". And in that strange "court" scene, they should've argued that from where THEY live, having someone with a bag around their head and their limbs tied to a stick while two masked people bring them over is NOT usually considered to be "bringing someone back to be found by someone else safely" because USUALLY that is seen as "this person is going to be killed for some sort of cult sacrifice or cannibalism." And the ending to me was just, half assed and LAME.
-End of spoilers-
I heard there's an original movie, and some are upset about this having 0 connection to the original even though it's named and branded as "the same thing" but I can't comment on that 'cause I've never watched the original, but from what it sounds- it KIND OF reminds me of the new-ish Child's Play movie that was created against Don Mancini's wishes. My explanation for this whole branding for this movie is just for more public access and viewings. Advertisers and large movie companies are brutal man.
Ghostland (2018)
Unexpectedly AMAZING!!
Absolutely not what I was expecting. Definitely does NOT deserve a 6/10, this movie is not at all about the supernatural, despite what the name might suggest. It's a horrifyingly real and unfiltered film that shows the psyche of ones mind when dealing with trauma, and how evident that can be in a child. Such a horrifying and tragic tale, but in all the greatest ways. Wish I didn't watch a video about this movie as an introduction to this, as I would've loved the shock factor my other family members got from watching it. PLEASE do not search anything about this, for the plot twist will leave you speechless! Watch it without knowing anything, and I guarantee you'll have watched a film like no other.
