Champion (II) (2023)
6/10
great production, great actors, but did this need to be a series????
19 July 2023
Champion offers a great perspective from the journey of a British Jamaican musical family in London and the conflicts they face with Bosco dealing with his issues while pursuing a musical career and Vita his younger sister always being the one he depends on. Every single actor did a great job on this production, the visuals to this show is quality, glad that bbc is taking the black representation in multicultural London seriously.

Now I must say, not sure if Champion is created from an existing IP, it did not need to be a series, a movie would have been fine as it feels the story was too stretched out, 8 episodes could have been wrapped up in a 90 to two hour film. Some of the writing felt too repetitive and on the nose, the dialogue could have been better, still great job to cast and crew, would still recommend.

Not one of Michael B Jordan's decent film
22 January 2023
This film in all honesty was a let done and is one of Michael B Jordan's weakest films (next to Fahrenheit 451). I have never read Tom Clancy's book so I am not familiar with how the adaptation should go but this film alone was a let down. The film was mediocre, has a lot implausible moments and the dialogue was weak "a pawn in a chess game" or something along the lines of that. I don't mind films every now and then being predictable within reason but this film without even reading the book I could tell what would happen at each scene. The characters are simple, weak with no depth and even Michael B Jordan couldn't save what's left of this weak, plot based screenplay but because it's Michael and I do believe he is a decent actor I stomached watching this. Would not recommend but if you want to see Michael B then fine watch it.

A slow burn
22 January 2023
This film starts off as a slow burn but gets intense and dramatic when you stick with it. The acting and cinematography in this film is decent. The first time I was introduced to Danielle Deadwyler was in The Harder They Fall so when I saw her name in this film I knew I had to watch. This film is quiet disturbing in some scenes, very character driven, you can't help but root for Lemon and her son all through the way and hope she gets her revenge.

I enjoyed the pacing and glad this film got to showcase the leading talent Danielle has. If you don't mind the slow burn with violence and grim then this film is for you.

If only each episode could be a bit longer
20 January 2023
I love this show! A very well executed, comedic and light hearted show that takes you out of your reality and brings you into the world of hard working teachers and their funny students. It's pleasing to follow these characters and their journey, I love the all characters from the sophisticated Barbra to the needy but hilarious Janine. Incredible casting with incredible in depth characters. I wish each episode was longer because before you know it the show is done within 20 minutes! It's very binge able. Most shows these days are gritty, dark and try to be edgy but I love how light and sweet this show is. Looking forward to watching more from this show. Great job Quinta, cast and crew. Highly recommend.

LOVE THIS SHOW
7 January 2023
Love this show, Issa, cast and crew poured so much love into this and you can see that on the screen. It really gives you an insight on the regular everyday lives people live something that wasn't show as much for people of colour on TV in the past, it's great this show explores that from relationships, to jobs, being an adult and dealing with other real life issues. The show has a lot of swag, is shot sophisticatedly capturing the characters environment and the situation they are in. Favourite season is Season 5. So well written and tied up with a final goodbye. The show really could have been 3-4 seasons and would have given us enough. One of the things I would improve, if this show was to be re done again is less use of the N word but I get it, it's part of the culture the characters grew up in. A recommended watch! Very easy to binge on as each episode is 30mins long, re watched multiple times.

An incredible film
7 January 2023
An Incredible film by the cast and crew! Never been interested in the comics but was so excited to see this when it was released in cinemas. The storytelling as well as the visuals is captivating and to some sense relatable and well thought out. I loved how the conflict between T'challa, Wakander versus Killmonger was portrayed. The people of Wakanda, the word of Wakanda is captured so well, makes you want to be a part of that world. I have the film on dvd and have re watched multiple times. RIP Chadwick, he really brought the essence of a KING and Black Panther to light in this film. He is missed.

Well shot but the story?
7 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Nanny is a beautifully shot and well acted film, loved how the lighting hits the skin on people of colour however I don't think this film falls under the category of horror, thriller? Maybe .

I got the impression the film was about the lead character battling her demons through a dream almost like her sub conscious was preparing her fate for the worst reality (her son dying) but then the end made no sense shortly after. It did feel empty on completion as it all lead up to what in the end? Visually viewers will enjoy this but story wise it was a bit of a let down as it wasn't clear. Regardless, well done to the talents in the film.
