Hunting Hitler (2015)
Just what you would expect
Another U.S. attempt to rewrite history.
Lots of "experts". Many "what if's", "could haves" and "maybe's". Extraordinary leaps to conclusions. Few facts. Weak in the extreme.
Entertaining perhaps (for some), but not to be taken seriously. There are real and serious documentaries on this subject, and many real historical books.
American-style nonsense at its finest.
Kinne Tonight (2019)
Idiotic rubbish
"People" laugh every time someone swears. (Of course, it's canned laughter).
Well, they have to because the so-called comedy is is about as funny as s**t.
This is just pointless garbage aimed at brainless morons.
That's my take on it anyway.
The Day the Dinosaurs Died (2017)
A step backwards for Alice Roberts
Much confusion between theory and fact in this one, not what's expected from Alice Roberts. Perhaps it was made mainly for U.S. audiences.
Some very interesting and real geology though, and lot's of CGI of course.
I wouldn't recommend it for children really, they should be taught facts, or at least told when things are only theories.
Still, Alice made it watchable, and, again, the geological research was fascinating.
Grand Tours of Scotland's Lochs (2017)
Beautifully filmed and very informative.
Every episode is a mine of information about Scottish geology, history and mythology, as well as plenty of info about modern Scotland. The host is very good (as always), and interesting people, mostly Scottish natives, help to inform us about some of the places he visits.
Would love to see an episode about the making of the series, showing how they travel and film in the more remote and inhospitable places.
Brilliant all round for lovers of well made documentaries..
Attack the Block (2011)
"British English" ???
An entertaining film I thought. One American reviewer said he was glad that there were sub-titles on the version he watched, because he can't understand "British English". Oh dear! I wonder, were they "American" sub-titles? (I have to say that English sub-titles would be very handy when watching many American programmes because much modern American language is not English language at all, just crudely based on it).
Abandoned (2016)
Fascinating television (each to their own of course)
Quality productions, interesting subjects, thoroughly enjoyable. No Hollywood-style trickery and nonsense. Informative and non-judgemental. Sometimes sad, sometimes uplifting. A testament to folly and waste. Might not be popular with patriotic Americans. Thanks SBS Australia and Viceland. More quality documentaries like this please.
Kon-Tiki (2012)
Better to watch the true story made by the people who did the epic journey.
Better to watch the true story made by the people who actually did the epic journey. The documentary about the Kon-Tiki expedition of the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, released in 1950. The true and accurate film made by the explorers themselves is much better. Too much irrelevant drama in this one. They even had to pinch footage from the original film to make this one watchable. Other films made by Thor Heyerdahl about his adventures are very good too. The Ra Expeditions, Aku- Aku, and Galapagos. The several books written by the real Kon-Tiki explorers are good reading as well. It is sad to see Hollywood style nonsense corrupting the story of what was a truly remarkable journey.
