Fortnite (2017)
A mindless but pretty creative shooter. Don't listen to the haters, but it's not a masterpiece like the fans say.
Fortnite is the definition of overhated and overrated at the same time, it's quite bizarre. Fortnite is a game that is alway getting new updates that completely changes the game, so this review might be dated in the future.
Fortnite at its core is a pretty addictive 3rd person shooter with building elements thrown in. It can be really tense sometimes and really fun. There's 3 modes basically, the Battle Royal, which you have to be the last man standing, Zero Build, which is the same as Battle Royal without the building elements, and Ranked, which pits you with other players of the same skill level. Not that any of these modes are bad, it's just that they can get boring some times.
There's other modes too, such as LEGO, a mode that combines Animal Crossing with the survival elements of Minecraft, Festival, where it's a Guitar Hero clone, and Rocket Racing, which is a clone of Epic's (the developer of Fortnite) racing combat game Rocket League. These modes can be really fun but I just wish that they were more original.
There's a story mode too called "Save The World" which is a generic zombie tower defense game that costs money to play, around 17 U. S dollars. It's really not worth it.
The crossovers are really creative too, such as the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles event, Rick & Morty, Marvel, D. C, and even Mr. Beast? You name it! They can be really funny and serves plenty of fan service to fans of the properties. The V-Bucks are a bit overpriced though, a "Epic" skin costs around 13 U. S dollars. So much sure you're spending your money wisely.
Overall, if you want to try it out then do so, it's a blast sometimes, especially with a group of friends using the online multiplayer mode. And it's free too, so you're not wasting any money at all.
Cyanide & Happiness: Freakpocalypse (2021)
A funny and faithful game that is paper thin, just like the comics.
Cyanide and happiness: The Game is very amusing. The humor is mainly on point and can be really funny at times.
The art style is also really faithful to the YouTube mini-movies. The characters are really expressive and the actions scenes are really impressive, despite the cast being stick figures.
The story is decent as well, it fits in with all the other insane adventures that the characters go on.
Although, the actual game plot is really iffy. The game is basically a bunch of fetch and quests with some mild puzzle solving. There's some stealth elements as well, such as breaking into a nursing home. But it can get pretty repetitive and boring at times.
This game is also really short, around 1-3 hours at most. This game is still being worked on, more episodes will be added in the future.
Overall, this game is only made for fans, and there's better options of this genre. Such as Trevor Saves the Universe or South Park: The Fractured but Whole. This game has a lot of potential, and I'm excited to see what's next, but for now, it's a hit or miss start.
Rick and Morty (2013)
Rick and Morty's main problem is that it isn't bad, it's just weird, and not even a good way.
Rick and Morty is a comedy about a crazed scientist grandpa and his social outcast son going on sci-fi adventures. The first 3 seasons of Rick and Morty are done in a perfect way. The animation is crude but fun to look at and the humor is extremely well thought out. The humor in this show is very clever, well sometimes being in your face about it. Such as all the mega jokes which are for me a hit or miss. No matter what season you're in though, the action will keep you engaged, the actions scenes are very creative and are extremely fun to watch even without context. I also like the character development in Rick and Morty. Each character doesn't feel like an jerk to one and other and feel really genuine.
My main problem with the show is now it's just lost and ran out of ideas for what humor is. There is way too many incest jokes now, which is just gross, uncreative, and feel like fetish content. Like an one episode, there's a fun plot about Rick and Morty's dad but it's brought down by the constant incest jokes about Morty's dad believing he's gonna to have intercourse with his mom. There are more examples of episodes that would've been decent without the incest theme but I'm gonna keep it short.
Overall, Rick and Morty is a hilarious cartoon that has creative and laugh out loud episodes, but it's brought down by the weird fetish content. Even with that said, modern Rick and Morty isn't bad, it's still good and has an engaging story, it just don't anything like the first three seasons.
Despicable Me 2 (2013)
Gru and his minions are back for an amazing and laugh out loud sequel!
Despicable Me 2 is a masterpiece of a film, there I said it. The 2013 summer comedy has really surpassed my expectations, especially since it's from the widely negatively received French animation studio Illumination, the film has a great story, great music, great music, great visuals, just about everything about this film is great.
Let's talk about the story of the film. The story revolves around a now retired villain Gru (played by Steve Carrel) as he struggles to provide for his family. One afternoon, Gru and two of his minions get kidnapped and offered a position at the Anti Villain League. Gru denies the offer at first but then joins after his long term partner and friend Dr. Nefario (played by Russel Brand) leaves his team. Gru now must work with the energetic Lucy (played by Kristen Wigg) to find out who is the criminal mastermind behind a theft that could end humanity. That's not all Gru has to worry about , Gru now has the responsibility of taking care of his children, Margo, Edith, and Agnus and also to find out why his hilarious army of minions are dropping mysteriously by the day.
I really enjoyed the story of Despicable Me 2. It's super creative and fun but also invokes a ton of mystery. There are two major plots in this movie, the spy plot and the romance plot. Both plots mash together super well and the film spends the perfect amount of time on both plots so one doesn't feel underdeveloped. I also really love the villain of this movie and his motive. I'm not gonna spoil who he is but he is hilarious and threatening at the same time. The animation is a major upgrade from the first Despicable Me and it's absolutely beautiful. It's super colorful and realistic but not too realistic where the cartoony designs of the characters breaks the immersion. The minions this time around are central to the plot as it brilliantly ties in with the plan that Gru and Lucy are trying to crack. The minions are show stealers this time around as they should be. They are loyal and are always ready to help out, not to mention that they are insanely funny. The girls are also handled well in the sequel, they get plenty of screen time and don't feel rushed and forced in the film. The worst part of this film is its humor, while still funny, it's mainly now fart jokes. So the film can feel immature at times. Also, there's a side plot about Margo dating a boy that Gru doesn't like. It really doesn't go anyway and feels like filler to extend the runtime.
Overall, Despicable Me 2 is one of the best animated movies of the 2010's decade. It has integrity and executes its bold and creative ideas in a perfect fashion. It's a must see for any animation fan or someone looking for a good action and comedy movie! You really out did yourself illumination!
The Parent Trap (1998)
Seriously, how do you mess up a set-up fool proof as this one?
The Parent Trap is filled with so much "cuteness" that it derails fast.
The story is very clever but it's executed horribly in this remake. Two girls, Allie and Hallie switch places to get their divorced parents to fall in love again. It's a simple story right? Well, this adaptation makes it so over complicated and "mature" where it fills like filler.
The characters are so oblivious. Especially the dad, he is a such a frustrating character. He is obvious to everything around him. This movie also likes to set up things, such as Hallies friends but do nothing with them later on. So we basically wasted 15-20 minutes on developing characters who are pointless to the plot.
South Park (1998)
Filled with charm and humor, South Park may be fun for fans of the show, but others might find this adaption bland and repetitive.
South Park is a really interesting game, it's a better game than you think. South Park best quality is being super faithful to the TV-Show. It's chock filled with references and laugh out loud humor that made the show so special in the first place. The weapon selection is pretty creative too, like Nerf guns, plunger slingshots, dodgeball, and classic snow balls. South Park gameplay is where it's at its worse, at times it can be fun and engaging as you run through a 3D South Park as the 4 main boys and defeating the enemy's. On the other hand, the game sometimes feels like it's repetitive and mindless. The environments can be dull as well and can feel like a horror games. Overall, South Park will be best enjoyed by fans who are in love with the series, but for a causal, it might be best to stay away.
Cars 2 (2011)
Just because it's not emotional, doesn't mean it's a bad movie
Cars 2 is a amazing film that tackles the deal with self image perfectly. The story is about Lightning McQueen and Mater getting their friendship tested as Mater goes on his own very fun spy adventure with his new spy friends. Cars 2 storytelling is done so well. You can really relate to Mater and how he thinks he needs to be like everyone else when all he needed to be was himself. Not so boring guy who changes himself just to impress others. The spy plot with new cars such as Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell is super fun and engaging and the action scenes will get you on the edge of your seat. My favorite part of the film is how it tackles dark themes. They aren't as obvious like The Incredibles but they are there. Themes such as public identity, resource pure crisis, and the issues with friendship that an adult or child can relate too. Cars 2 visuals are outstanding and are candy for the eyes. It looks so realistic despite the world being runned by talking cars and ships. Overall, Cars 2 gets too much hate for being different but it's a very fun movie with great messages and story.
The Amazing Digital Circus (2023)
While it's animation might be outstanding, it can't hide its very messy and stale story writing
The Digital Circus fails many times. It's story feels very unoriginal and bland. The story is about a girl named Pomni trapped in a digital world. They do nothing original with this plot and uses the circus theme as an excuse for originality. It also feels it wants to be the next "Five Night's At Freddy's" or "Undertale" with its "deep" lore. But instead of being fun to figure out, it's boring and over complicated so that fans will keep watching episodes that should only be around 10 minutes. The show isn't all bad, the soundtrack is great and the animation is one of the best in Indie Animation. The characters are so expressive and the world is so colorful. Other than that, it's just another bland show that the internet will eat up and spit it out . There are better indie shows out there so go support them instead.
