City of God (2002)

Great Movie
24 November 2023
City of God is an Incredible movie, it has all the amazing characteristics of a good crime film and then some. Through the first 20 minutes I could tell how great this movie was going to be and it exceeded my expectations. The writing was great and although the characters were reasonable the movie was still unpredictable and shocking. The portrayal of the antagonist was amazing, he was mean, selfish and slightly charming. Through the writing you could tell a lot about the characters, the dialogue made it seem real and as if they were just talking to each other. The cinematography made scenes memorable and almost art-like. This movie is definitely always going to keep in my top 5 movies of all time.

Best Zombie film I've seen.
30 September 2023
I'm gonna make this review short. I came into watching this film thinking it was going to be slow and not as exciting as todays films. I found myself getting right into the action from the start, turns out it's a fast paced exciting thriller, and I could see from every characters point of view, the reasons behind their actions, they made reasonable decisions and acted the way most human beings would to this type of bizarre situation. (not to make it sound like a high concept film) I loved it. There was no fat to the film and I think George A Romero did everything perfectly. And I am definitely going going to watch the sequel "Return of the Living Dead."

Stay (I) (2005)

The Ultimate Stay Review
5 August 2023
Stay is a movie of thinking, some people like to think, and others just want to have a good time watching a fun movie and not think much about it. Film buffs will agree with me when I say that you have to think to enjoy this, and some people don't want to when watching movies. Some movie critics also don't like to think, which is what a lot of critics expressed in 2005 which is were most or all of these reviews are from. These Critics don't like being challenged in a film because that feel it insults them so they throw around words like pretentious a lot. This bad trend from near 20 years ago of not thinking when writing reviews crushed this movies chances of being big and made it easier to hate for the average viewer and pressured others to do the same. We know that critics did this from looking at the the reviews of movies like 2001 A Space Odyssey and Predator which are both Classics.

My advice for you is that taking into consideration what I've said you decide whether you should watch it. You can watch the movie and express your actual opinion freely not pressured by these 20 year olds reviews.

Fight Club (1999)

"Just Let Go"
17 June 2023
Fight Club is a movie where the average person who is captured and made a prisoner of society's standards meets a realization or breakthrough. Fight club makes you rethink and realize. People realize that they've been on autopilot and there is dread all around them. That they've normalized sitting around only enjoying pockets of freedom they have been given by everyone in charge of them. But just looking at life and realizing what you wanted to do might still be possible but first you have to let go. Sometimes it takes someone else to help you realize that. Pay attention to the scenes and dialogue, what does it mean? What is it telling you.

Only God Forgives Might Be A Well Done Bad Thing
17 June 2023
Only God Forgives leaves you with more questions than answers. Maybe Nicholas Winding Refn (The Director) wanted it to be that way, we know what he's capable of, he's shown talent with Drive. One of the more critical reviews by David Calhoun says "You can bathe a corpse in groovy light and dress it in an expensive suit, but in the end that rotting smell just won't go away" What I think is that you can look at it two different ways you can be critical of it for not being like other movies with very little character development or story, or you can view it as a project, showing how good acting paired with beautiful cinematography and lighting can set a certain mood of likeness for a movie although it has almost no substance. I've read other reviews saying that if the Director wanted to add more story than he would have. But In the end the way to watch this movie is to just enjoy what's happening and not think about it too much.
