Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
I just can't find flaws, Go watch it now!
I've watched it twice already I just can't find any flaws, there is no reason to drop points on this one is a 10. I was expecting a lot and it blew me away
The animation is fantastic; the photography holy spiders, is a visual pleasure start to finish.
Character development is so well done, the emotional connection you develop is unbelievable.
Jokes are great, meme references, crossovers, the great complexity of the multiverse explained in such a brilliant way. They managed to keep the "spiderman" essence while doing so many stories at the same time. Just brilliant, outstanding, wonderful in every way, GO WATCH IT.
Knights of the Zodiac (2023)
Better than expected, hardcore fans warning
Hard core fans might get a bit upset since is not strictly emulating the anime storyline or character development. Still a decent movie that at least is not cringe.
I enjoyed the movie, it has good pacing and gets the whole "Protect Athena, idea settled"
The visual effects are pretty good and fight scenes a bit like the old martial arts movies. Is not a MCU film and I appreciated that.
Gotta say the excessive make up on Seiya is distracting and you can't stop thinking the kid is going to perform with BTS in some point on the movie.
There is a pretty dumb scene that makes no sense even within the story but other than that is decent and I'll say at the level of quantunmania without the cringe factor.
Les trois mousquetaires: D'Artagnan (2023)
Good but too slow
Acting is good, cinematography is very good and the set is beautiful and realistic. Outfits are great and you do get a good feeling about the time the story is happening.
The narrative is a bit broken, they try to go deep in some areas but fail so things remain left like suspended mid air. The main plot is vague and many things happen at the same time, you don't get lost, but it lacks purpose in some way, plus very slow pace it gets boring.
I'm not a hard core Dumas fan but I do remember musketeers where young like D' Artagnan and this dude's are old. Didn't bother me but being a book adaptation feels wrong.
Suzume no Tojimari (2022)
A wonderful heartwarming adventure
Such a fantastic movie, beautiful story very thoughtful and deep, could be life changing for many people. Many emotional traumas are addressed here, take your time to analyze the meaning of the things presented in the plot. It's wonderful, heartwarming, soul relieving and beautiful.
The animation is really beautiful and paired with outstanding photography. I wanted to pause the film many times just so sit and enjoy the picture.
Storytelling is very good although it does lack quite a bit in terms of background but it's understandable. It gives a big opportunity for prequels and spin offs. An absolute blast to watch on the movie theater.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Loved every second of it
I have to admit I watched it in Spanish and the voice acting is better imo then the English version.
The movie is fantastic beginning to end, I had a smile on my face the whole time. It's wonderful to see the references to the video games and how they managed to give a simplistic kid friendly explanation to the whole universe.
I loved how they explain Luigi's "terror" landscape origin vs Mario's sunny mushroom kingdom.
The animation is fantastic, color pallette on point, outstanding music great action scenes. Bowser is the best, loved how they turned the cruel villian image into a full hearted individual that's still the enemy. Absolutely kid friendly in every way. Great job.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
John Wick at its best!!
This movie is just too good. My favorite John Wick so far and a very good wrap up for the whole story.
You can expect John Wick being John Wick at its finest, more relentless than ever and unstoppable, literally unstoppable.
I think they improved many things from previous iterations deliveign a very well done product. The pace is wonderful, the action scenes are energetic and fulfilling. You even feel tired like wanting him to take a break.
They did a great job with the narrative, story telling is much better, much easier to follow up and understand the plot.
That close quarters, Rainbow six combat scene it's just something else man, you can't get enough of that. Bravo!!
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
I understand the Family friendly but too cringe
The movie has very good moments and good action scenes. I'll have to give them points for slightly improving the humor from black Adam which was still cringe. Although they improved, the humor still pretty bad most people won't laugh and will fill cringe instead most of the time, at least adults. Thinking this is directed to youth I Understand the effort but still is pretty cringe.
The movie does have amazing special effects, the character design and animation is superb. It's just the plot and dialogue is so bad you can't really enjoy the rest.
I still think they kinda improve a little from previous movies and it's going in good direction but please someone help DC.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Just what you would expect about a Cocaine bear movie
I expected something really bad but they managed to entertain me the whole time. Being less than 90 min helps a lot to keep a good pace.
The gore level is pretty good imo, I enjoyed every kill and none felt repetitive. The bear is ruthless and it's consistent, powerful and insane when high.
There might be too many characters which can feel like there is not much depth in the narrative but they trade it for very good and plenty kills in a short amount of time so I'll take it.
I had a really good time laughing about the whole plot which makes no sense as expected from the title.
Just found the first couple to be too cringe for my taste, the rest was good. The ambulance sequence is actually great, top tier action stuff.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Boring story about bored people living in a boring place
Movies are meant to take you to different realities, let you travel to another world, disconnect from your own reality and experience something different.
This film tells you a story, not about a warrior or a brave hero of epic battles, is not a story about a very interesting life in a luxurious place.. No, this film tells a boring story about bored people living in a boring place and it does it gracefully. The film is full of sadness, loneliness and boredom, just like the people that lived in the Inisherin Island might've experienced early 20s.
In the mist of all this "irrelevant" matters the characters show you that human relations are the most important asset. Don't want to extend much but there is so much food for thought.
The acting is extremely good, the staging is amazing. Photography is breath taking and music score is fantastic.
This is such a great movie and I feel bad for the people that can't appreciate this artwork.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato-hen (2023)
I loved it so much, but is Hard to review
It's hard to review something like this. Is not a movie perse, nothing like Mugen train. Just a reprise of the last two chapters plus the first chapter of next season. Pretty disappointing in that regard.
Although they don't even cut the intro scenes, I loved it so much and the new chapter is great.
Watching the fantastic animation on the big screen and getting seduced by the great sound and music score is a beautiful experience that I wouldn't hesitate to watch again. Totally worth it, could rate a high 9 because I'm a huge fan but have to keep it objective.
They should've at least cut the intro scenes between chapters and get some extra content or something.
Totally worth it though.
Scream VI (2023)
Six installment and Scream keeps up!!!
It's pretty impressive to release a 6th installment and get such a good result without feeling recycled, redundant or too much (like fast and furious for example)
Bringing back iconic characters in a good way (not you Jurassic Park) and giving the Slayer a fresh look and more brutally than before.
I liked the movie, maybe 15 minutes shorter would've been perfect but still great screen time.
I couldn't figure out the killer this time, they do a great job giving you hints but not being predictable and that's a very good thing.
I was expecting a bad movie but I'm happy to say I was wrong, good work.
I don't appreciate that main characters get stabbed badly and they manage to survive or recover like it was nothing. That kind of ruins the "power" of the Slayer and I feel they abused it too much.
Also many "flaws" in logical events like cops/ detectives actions that actually made me laugh out loud. And the fact that they always have to warn the Slayer (Hey!!! You) Before trying to kill him so he can ran away 🤣
Despite the nonsense it was a good movie and surprisingly well done for a 6 installment.
65 (2023)
You get Scifi and dinosaurs
Acting is pretty good on this movie, that is what allows a steady flow of enjoyment and entertainment. I appreciate it being less than 100 minutes helps a lot to keep a good pace. You don't get bored or redundant.
The horror survival story mixed with a father losing his child and then putting everything he has to save another child while fighting some dinosaurs it's justified in this sci-fi situation.
I feel the whole plot is quite dumb and that's what makes "not a great movie" because acting, special effects, dino design, character design, photo... All is pretty good tbh. Any way, this one is better than the last Jurassic Park no doubt. And I may say Driver > Pratt on this genre at least.
Creed III (2023)
Decent, very predictable and corny. Michael B J face too much
It's an OK movie overall, don't expect much of it. Very predictable from begging to end it won't surprise you in any way but is not bad. Still good to watch on the big screen. Jonathan Majors character design is good and he does a great job. The rest are pretty corny and even cringe sometimes.
You do have to like Michael face quite a lot because the amount of screen time it gets can be annoying, like too many close ups on him. Anyway, his character is very childish and corny many times, not sure why they want to portrait a grown man like that. He is emotionally weak but at the same time a strong boxer.
I didn't enjoy the fact they fight for the "heavy weight" champ while being clearly far away from that weight category. Like, Felix is so skinny and he is the heavy weight champ?
Tár (2022)
Blanchett masterpiece
It might have a slow pace for many but if you are into music it is a delightful experience start to finish. Cate is amazing every second and you can't get enough of her. It was a joy watching such acting performance for almost 3 hours. The very first scene is breath taking, the precision of her movements and the character control is amazing. Haven't seen such a good acting since Joaquin's Joker. Brendan Fraser is up there of course but Cate nails every second of it and it's beautiful.
The story is fine and I loved how they approach the new generation issues and dilemmas. Lot of great quotes and food for thought. Must watch.
