Any Knowledge
7 July 2008
This is the only record I can find of this made for TV comedy sketch / film from 1988. It has some hilarious scenes that I still use in conversation to this day. If anyone has any more info about it, I'd love to hear from you. All I can remember is that John Cleese plays the inept Neville Chamberlain being treated as an imbecile by the Germans and by the media at home, ridiculing our own pathetic politicians. Its a little like a Spinal Tap documentary. At the conclusion we see the edited highlights of Chamberlain's mission to have Hitler withdraw from Poland and his futile efforts to prevent War. He stands on top of the Aircraft staircase saying "I have in my hand a piece of.." the wind blows the paper away and he says "Sh*t!" - "I have in my hand a piece of Sh*t" - I laughed until I cried but you're a better man than I if you can find this on a DVD or whatever.

A great effort and like everyone else I wish I'd done it myself!

I smiled a lot listening to the narration thinking "this was me". I agree with the seminar in Norway (from the DVD), it was too short. Yes yes I know that it's impossible to make a 24 hour film (unless you're Keifer!) but I just wanted to see more!! - The DVD is better, especially for the Norway documentary. I heard that there was a movie in the offing for the Vikernes / Euronymous story based on the Lords Of Chaos book. I wondered if there was a conscious decision not to step on their toes because Burzum wasn't mentioned at all. I knock a whole mark off for that past it loser Alice Cooper's comment that Black Metal is like Spinal Tap - No, Alice, You are Spinal Tap. Black Metal is just one fragment of the metal future. Thanks

Surprisingly Good
16 January 2006
When I was 17 all I wanted was to hear it harder and faster, but nothing prepared me for Kill 'em All. I've played that record a million times, saw the band live and thought I'd be a fan forever. I dunno, maybe it was my increasing love of Metal that made me hesitate when I read the reviews of Load - The black album was the last Metallica CD I bought, Metallica didn't need me anymore! Saw the vid for St Anger on Kerrang, had to agree with those that the drums which spoilt an otherwise great song. Some kind Of Monster is the movie of friends falling apart, pressures of fame, money, families. I'm not going to rush out and complete my collection, but it was a great insight into the band at work and I applaud them for coming through to the other side. I'd like to have seen more of the Mustaine interview which has Lars squirming in his chair. The fresh faced children on the cover of Kill 'em All are now a lot older and wiser, just maybe I'll check out the next release. Good luck Metallica.

When Hell is full, the dead will walk the Earth
28 September 2005
Saw this on TV last night, uncut, apparently. It really is a terrific horror film. You feel like laughing at times with the inspired use of circus music, and the laughable ways in which zombies are terminated. I knock 2 points off, because by the end you wonder whether its all worth it. Our World has become a hopeless situation where you will eventually die, horribly and alone. I turned the telly off full of emptiness and despair, but I guess some would argue is exactly where our World is headed. Infinitely more terrifying than the average modern day horror film that relies on shock frames and music. Doesn't matter how clever you are, how much you watch your back, how much firepower you have - The zombies WILL find you, and eat you.

Like watching paint dry
4 September 2002
When I saw this at the pictures, it did originally come across as an exciting film plenty of action, suspense, humour and feasible storyline.

But, I have to say having seen the film a few times, Jason Patric is awful and fails miserably to step into the shoes of Keannu Reeves. The original Speed film has everything that this film is missing.

The script is very poor. I know that it's supposed to be juxtaposition to the first Speed film but some of the scenes towards the end are like watching paint dry - the action is so slow.

Evolution (2001)

If it makes me laugh out loud it must be good
3 March 2002
It was one of those evenings when there was an opportunity to go to the cinema but I wasn't really sure what I was going to see. OK, I'm a big X Files fan, but Duchovny isn't known for his prowess in Films. I also find Julianne Moore to be aesthetically pleasing. I knew nothing about Orlando Jones, but Seann William Scott is a young actor on the Teen Movie scene. I loved American Pie and Road Trip. Indeed, Evolution tries to use the Teen feel, as the original scenes are based around two college lecturers in an American High School. The "school" jokes come thick and fast at the start, but they are are original and funny. On the whole I have to say that much of this film left me in stitches. It's easy humour with Dan Ayckroyd thrown in. Ted Levine (The cross dressing Psychopath from Silence of the Lambs) is disturbing in a comedy role, but he just about gets away with it, in his "foil" role in this film, playing the bad guy against the rapid fire wit. Obviously, Duchovny is used to ham up his X Files role, which he does very successfully. It's often hard not to imagine Moore with her kit off in Boogie Nights, but not to bad as the first time I've seen her in a comedy role. On the whole, I laughed a lot. It's a mickey take, it's Caddyshack, it's a teen movie mixed with Sci Fi idiocy. Try comparing it with Galaxy Quest, another film I found to be amusing and thoroughly absorbing. It's not going to win awards, but who gives a monkeys.I loved it.
