Irish Wish (2024)
Very poor script and even worse fashion
This had so much potential but the script is so bad it sent the movie downhill fast. A very predictable story line that could have been really entertaining if written well. Then the diversions to and conversations with Maddie's mother added to the disjointed feeling this movie has.
Did the wardrobe department raid the nearest op shop for the clothing? Couldn't they at least have matched wardrobe colours to complement each character? What a hodge podge of horrible clothing that doesn't even resemble contemporary styles. The characters seemed to dress well in the states and all of this fell to pieces once they headed to Ireland. Seriously does the director really believe this is how people dress in Ireland? Please, if you're going to get Lohan to wear a short skirt put her legs in a pair of pantyhose or photoshop her knees. Some nice scenery but otherwise a sad waste of time.
Sweet Magnolias (2020)
Started strong then slid downhill
Starting out I thought great, strong women making their mark working hard at maintaining the family structure and lasting friendship amongst common struggles. Then the plunge into Christian Channel TV and the focus on religion and spiritual beliefs became too much. The women started to weaken and let their values slide with Dana Sue's hypocrisy and the strong intelligent lawyer becoming a door mat, intertwined with so many different story lines with pathetic sub plots and time lines becoming unrealistic, season 2 just dragged on and I found I was fast forwarding through the scenes until I had to stop watching altogether. Then there's the fashion - I presume the costume department is supporting the local op shop by purchasing random used clothing that doesn't even mix and match or fit into any particular clothing era for wardrobe. I can't believe this show wasn't axed during season 2. I can't even use this show as background noise as I am working the script is so sickly. I can only think that this show is owned by some Christian group and being used as a tax deduction.
Merry Swissmas (2022)
Nothing Swiss about this
This was so poor. The typical plot where girl meets single dad who's a widower. Guaranteed if it was guy meets single mum she would be a divorcee. Cakes and biscuits made for Christmas were so not Swiss and/or a very poor example. Panettone - typical Italian Christmas bread - were clearly from a packet and not made in-house. No real Christmas feel. Christmas market was so weak it was clearly some American's interpretation of a Christmas Market as far from Switzerland as the moon. Decor in the "Inn" - not a term used for a guesthouse in Switzerland - was a poor interpretation of Swiss decor. OMG I could go on and pick this to pieces...
In a nutshell...Poor acting. Typical weak and predictable plot. Very poor German pronunciation for characters playing supposed Swiss born natives. Sad amount of research went into this. The yanks should make what they know and not try and interpret other cultures into a movie that only ignorant people would find entertaining.
Poskromienie zwochnicy (2022)
Predictable and Corny
If you are in the mood for something that requires little cerebral activity and have an escape from the day to day, this is a decent watch. A retake on the classic but with the female still maintaining her persona rather than being a submissive, mixed with some Polish culture and cinematography makes this a harmless, sometimes funny film. It has a plot and stays pretty much on track and it ties up at the end.
Don't try to overanalyse or think you are some big shot movie critic but take this movie at face value. It's simple and playful, it has funny anecdotes - some that get lost in the translation - and it's innocent fun.
Margot at the Wedding (2007)
Waste of time and energy
They must have paid these actors a heap to appear in this flop. What was the actual plot? The story just meandered all over the place with the ending leaving the viewer as bewildered as at the beginning with disbelief throughout the film, hoping it was going to get better and when it suddenly ended thinking.... WTF!
Comedy this is not and I have no idea how it is listed as such. This 'story' branched out with so many different paths that it was really difficult to focus and more difficult to know what was going on and what was important. I don't imagine that this did anything positive for the career of anyone in this movie.
Ticket to Paradise (2022)
Plastic and predictable
George Clooney and Julia Roberts? This must be worth watching.... NOT. So disappointing.
Sitting through the film one can pick what's happening next. Typical Hollywood fabrication.
Cute wedding event that touched on some traditional Balinese culture but, 'westernised'.
The plus is the beautiful scenery - except it's another plastic Hollywood scenario so, from the start of the "Bali scenes", the film becomes a let down and anticipation dissipates. If one is familiar with Bali, thoughts throughout the whole film are "This is not Bali", "Where is this filmed?", "Where is this pristine water?", "Where is all the trash and dirt typical of Bali?", "This is so wrong". Nothing authentic about this movie. This should have been set in Thailand or Vietnam or anywhere else in Indonesia, where cleanliness and picturesque scenery is genuine and just change the script to accommodate. For anyone ignorant about Bali, watching this, it's probably a cute rom-com.
