SeaChange (1998)
Wonderful series
As I'm not an Australia native, I was unable to watch this series when it originally aired and only found out about it after checking out some of David Wenham's work. On a hunch, I purchased the first season (series 1) - mostly to drool over Mr. Wenham.
What I hadn't anticipated was that 'SeaChange' was much more than Diver Dan.
After viewing the first episode, I knew I had to have the rest of the series. While Mr. Wenham's character was (and still is) my favorite, I absolutely adored the rest of the quirky townspeople - even Bob Jelly.
The series had a number of interesting episodes which, while bordering on the fantastic, conveyed some down-to-earth truths, with a moral to each story. All in all, a wonderful series for everyone to enjoy.
L'assedio (1998)
A good movie.
With each trip to the video store, I kept passing by "Besieged." Its cover always appealed to me, but not enough to rent it at the given time. Now, thanks to my newfound appreciation of David Thewlis, I have finally rented it.
I must say, this strange "love story" was rather to my liking. I found both Mr. Thewlis and Ms. Newton to be very talented and able actors. The music score is fantastic with its blending of styles. So is the scenery.
One thing, however, made me cringe (if only slightly). It was the very abrupt way of switching between some shots. It didn't go on throughout the entire movie (thankfully), but it was frequent enough to disorient me. In my opinion, the story/movie would've been just a tad better without that.
All in all, a very good movie (minus the sometimes strange camera work), and I heartily recommend it.
Dust (2001)
Wow!
After having read some reviews of 'Dust' I was not sure if I wanted to see it or not. However, the "David Wenham infatuation" prevailed in the end, and I went as far as to actually purchase the film. It was money well spent, you could say. While the movie would not appeal to general audiences, it left me awestruck. I ended up watching it again, on the same night.
"Wow" is how I describe feeling after the credits rolled (the first and the second time). I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not seen the movie, so I'll just stick to my reactions to it. There was laughter, there were tears, there might have been an "eww" once or twice, there were definitely lustful thoughts of David Wenham (he's rather cute, you know). Acting was superb, though I'd like a few words with the 'dialect coach' (hint: the leads are not American). All in all, a great movie. I highly recommend seeing it at least once.
S.W.A.T. (2003)
What's your problem? The movie was great!
I just watched S.W.A.T. about an hour ago. I loved it. It kept my interest the whole time and even if it was a little predictable, who cares? The movie was entertaining and that's what counts. I totally recommend this movie to anyone who's looking to spend an enjoyable evening (even older kids could see it, the worst swear word I heard was "damn").
