The Last Full Measure (2019)
Good movie with superb performances despite a few uniform flaws.
Firstly, another reviewer mentioned in not being legal to for actors to wear exact uniform replicas. That is incorrect.
According to the original Title 10, Chapter 45 section 772 line (f), actors may wear armed forces uniforms as long as it does not intend to discredit that armed force, and in 1970 that condition was removed altogether by a Supreme Court ruling that it was unconstitutional. So no excuse.
As for my take-Good movie, superb acting
Military members and their families are going to understand this movie on a far more personal level than civilian families & as one myself (military wife), I can can somwhat over look a few things such as the wrong stripes on the uniform. This movie really showcased in a non-sensationalist way what military members go through after war & the bureaucracy of the DOD when it comes to cases of valor. I'm glad someone told this story. It's a shame that some cynical viewers are going to slam this movie because they either don't get it (see above), or think any hopeful or patriotic is cliche. As another viewer put it, if you dislike this movie it's because you have no empathy. Check out my YouTube channel memoirs of a movie maven for my full review & more movie reviews.
Donnie Darko (2001)
the ending
I know if your reading this right now your probably hoping I have the definite ending to this movie because it is such a mystery. But I have to say that there is no ending and there are many different endings to analyze, so many possibilties.
This movie is awesome. You connect with the characters in this movie and how it is such a truth to real life and how people act. This is really hard to write because it is such an amazing movie and it is undecsribable. It leaves you wandering and guessing for possibly a whole week. You will either find it a waste and a teenage angst movie or be completely hypnotized and obsessed with this movie, I know I was.
All i can say is watch it and see what the big fuss is about!
The Suburbans (1999)
cute movie, not great but cute
I rented this movie b/c JLH is one of my favorite actresses. I thouht it was cute. An interesting story line, some good music, & likeable characters. I really like Jennifer as Cate(of course she's the kind of actress that makes anything watchable). I also enjoyed Ben Stiller & Jerry Stiller (although should've been given more on-screen time) & Amy Brenneman (As usual) & Will Ferrell is always funny. Watch it if you get the chance. It's a great time filler.
The Astronaut's Wife (1999)
no direction
This movie's only weakness is its lack of direction. At the end you feel like, "what was the point?" It does have some good aspects. The director portrayed what he wanted to portray: some interesting visuals, an overall creepy surreal feeling throughout the movie, although slow moving. The lead actors were pretty good, but the stand out performance was by Joe Morton, playing Sherman, a NASA representative. This actor was brilliant in his protrayal of a nervous, on the edge, NASA representative with the most important information concerning the plot of the film. This actor is notable for some very brilliant smaller roles in movies such as, Terminator 2 and Speed. Check it out. You might like it you might not. All in all a watchable, at least once, scifi thriller.
