The Matrix (1999)
10/10
"I had to read three books before i even started to read the script"
9 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Those three books Keanu had to read was the following:

1. Simulacra and Simulation (The Body, In Theory: Histories of Cultural Materialism) by Jean Baudrillard

2. Out Of Control: The New Biology of Machines, Social Systems, and the Economic World by Kevin Kelly

3. Introducing Evolutionary Psychology: A Graphic Guide by Dylan Evans

Also: The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley

First Matrix is such a masterpiece even in 2023. The reading behind it, the commitment of cast, how deep it goes and how well it was written.

The story was a classic fear of existence discussed in many other places before. Mostly inspired from Ghost In The Shell. And oh boi every scene has a meaning, every script is teaching something but not boring in the slightest. Rather interesting 'cause matrix was one of the first movies of it's kind...

I really like all the characters and their purpose in the world. They don't just happened to be there, they have something different in them.

Neo: As the lucky guy, symbolizing hope and determination. He only asked questions and made the audience feel like him.

Morpheus: As hero's guide, symbolizing faith. Dojo scene, pill scene, walking in the matrix scene... Such a good character. Also a terrorist but we don't talk about that.

Agent Smith: As the glitch, he is the gray area. Probably the real "promised hero" in this story. He was the breaking point of the loop, pushing boundaries all the time. Monologue scene was the best scene in this movie.

The Oracle: As the destiny, she was the intuitiveness in the matrix. She planned everything. What a chess master.

The Architect: As the computer, he is literally a cpu. Nothing more than that, he tried different settings and found out that humans "define themselves with pain". So that's why we have recurring pain in the matrix and the zion. Was all that in the matrix too? Probably.

Cypher: As the ignorance, he is representing the humanity. Our fears, our escapism. That's why we build the matrixes anyways.

And Please Watch Animatrix. At Least Second Renaissance. Thanks for reading.
