The Seeding (2023)
This movie could have been 10 minutes long.
Apart from the imagery and allegory (useless to a low budget horror flick like this) the story is very basic and could have been shown as a 10 minute series of vignettes.
Gullible guy gets lured into a deep canyon by a sneaky lookibg kid.
Guy finds a creepy woman in the pit and gets stuck when the evil boys remove the ladder.
Evil boys periodically taunt and assault the guy when he tries to escape or sometimes just randomly.
Guy laments his being stuck in the pit, gets drunk and knocks up the creepy woman.
Creepy woman carries a baby to term and guy is killed and left to rot where he fell by the evil boys once the baby is born.
Creepy woman says the baby girl will grow up to be her replaement.
The end.
So what was the point of the guy's struggle and torture if he was just going to get excuted anyway? And why was a grown man so helpless aganst these boys? He should have been able to take at least a few out before they took him down. He had several opportunities.
Pointess storytelling and kind of icky.
It tells more of a story about the sick creator than actually telling an engaging horror tale.
Monster Grizzly (2023)
Low budget animal horror
The concept was good, the cinematgraphy was nice, ohhhhh the acting was so poor. The lack of actual grizzly attach sequences just displays the bare bones budget of this movie.
Some good character moments between the two protagonists, but the acting really brought down those segments. Almost zero sfx for the blood and gore. But I wasn't bored with this movie, so I'll give it credit for that. Oh and this is a movie with and environmental message. The bear is pissed that his habitat has been polluted so he goes on a rampage of revenge on humankind. And how does a grizzly attack and kill humans armed with rifles and shotguns. Were they all that slow on the draw?
The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
Come on, the production values and all-star cast alone warrant a 5!
This was not so much meant to be a narrative but a "showcase" of star wars memes to keep the movie frsh in the fans' memories before upcoming movies were released. It was more of a marketing ploy rarther than some kind of "canon" story. If you eatch it for what it really is, it is just as fun as seeing any cheesy toy commercial from that era. The costumes, especially for the Wookies were great, thr acting was decent, except for Carrie and Mark (they looked like they inhaled a few lines prior to their shoots). The songs were horrible, but most commercial jungles were annoying too. The cartoon artwork was bizarre, but that was a popular style for commercials at that time too! Enjoy it for what it is and get those memberberries growing!
Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
Don't watch the truncated final season
This was a very engaging and innovative comedy show where the protagonists are actually bad guys that you root for. There were also some great guest appearances by bygone stars. Drew plays a struggling "realator" who gets inadvertently transformed into a cannibalistic zombie and has to satisfy her hunger, with her family's help, by killing and eating bad guys while still trying to sell luxury homes and searching for a cure.
All the main characters had their own arcs and were well fleshed out.
The final season was a rushed train-wreck that saw a lot of the characterizations undone for the sake of advancing the plot. And the ending happened so abruptly and anticlimactically, it had me scratching my head thinking, "Huh? That's it?"
Very disappointing final season to an otherwise great comedy!
