My Sister's Wedding (2022)
Strongly recommend a viewing!
Written and directed by Ken Frank, an experienced filmmaker who tangibly draws inspiration from his local surroundings in New York. The story follows the at-home wedding day prep on Long Island. The family drama is relatable (sometimes too relatable), but the drama always remains full of compassion and love <3. The movie explores classic family dynamics with a modern twist by being 1000% inclusive. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is loved. Everyone is annoyed with someone in the family.
I recommend this funny, loving indie film for anyone looking for a cozy moment with a charming ensemble cast.
See You Next Christmas (2021)
This movie is a gift!
I've surveyed way more than my fair share of bingeable holiday films and am a bit of a Christmas genre amateur connoisseur. See you next Christmas grounds holiday joy, magic, and traditions, and is a totally fresh take on a Christmas rom-com. The story is lovely. The cast is charming. It was so fun to see the husband from Brooklyn 99 (Marc Evan Jackson). The Christmas vibes are endless.
This coming of age (from carefree post-college years, to folks coupling off, buying houses, and some having kids) filled me with nostalgia, warm fuzzies, and a need to plan a holiday party. This will certainly be a repeat watch each December!
After We're Over (2021)
This movie is Art!
The performances are stunningly genuine. The story is incredibly relatable. The cinematography is epic. The score is beautiful. The editing is engrossing.
The movie explores the complexity of relationships, the baggage we bring to them, and the importance of self-love. As an architect, I adored the layering of St Louis's history, the impacts of redlining, and using our shared history to find individual paths forward. As a takeaway, I'm inspired to do more and take more for myself. I only have amazing reviews for After We're Over and need to plan a trip to St. Louis. Cause truly, where else can you find a bus hanging from a building?
