Samurai John Wick? Idk but it's GREAT
3 November 2023
Every now and then, Netflix gets it right and BOY did they get this one right!

Blue Eye Samurai is one of the best animated series I've seen in a long time. The first episode had me hooked and by the third, I was completely invested in the characters, the plot, everything.

It's hilarious, heartbreaking, dark, a little dirty sometimes, gory as heck and just straight up beautiful. It can go from a captivating scene with gorgeous landscapes and delicate emotions being put on display to quick and precise butchery with martial arts and swordsmanship on full display. The main character plays to their strengths when facing skilled opponents and creates advantages when facing overwhelming odds. It's somewhat grounded and not too over the top. Kinda like a samurai John Wick. The animation is truly a pleasure to watch. The fight scenes are just *chefs kiss*

On the surface, it's a classic revenge tale. Some might find that boring and overdone but I kid you not, It's so much more than that.

It's also refreshing to see an animated series of this particular style without a ton of fantasy elements.

It's a must watch for me.

Ted Lasso (2020–2023)
10/10
Can't believe I'm only just starting this.

It's been 3 years since the first season started and I haven't heard a thing about this series, no promotion, no suggested Youtube trailers, no friends recommending it. I have missed out and only just catching up now.

I absolutely adore this show. First episode, I was all in. There's just something about the clash of US/UK humor and the "real-ness" the show drops on you when it's not making you laugh.

Ted Lasso is one of the most enjoyable, fun to watch shows I've seen in a LONG time. Nothing short of amazing. It genuinely has me rooting for characters, booing for others and just having a good time watching everything unfold.

10/10.

The low scores are a bit harsh.

Being a fan of the original, I went in with a semi-negative mindset and was pleasantly surprised. It's not by any means amazing but it's also NOT terrible. The acting overall was fine, Harlow's natural charisma translates well on screen and Walls also puts on a good performance. The comedy is hit and miss, with more misses than hits.

This is a modernized reboot that's aimed at the younger generation. I'm somewhere in the middle and I enjoyed it for what it is. It's fun, goofy and a decent basketball movie. If the "White Men Can't Jump" name wasn't tagged on, I think it'd be much more well received.
