The Hunger: The Other Woman (1998)
Typical Storyline, Flawed Execution
This story was one of the most basic , overdone themes of all time. However, what made it so interesting, or more so unrealistic, to the point , of pulling you right out of the story, was their choice of the actress who was playing the main character. I don't want to sound mean or crude, but she was so incredibly unattractive that it was difficult to take the whole story seriously. There was nothing remotely appealing about this actress, that I found myself chuckling when the male main character would go on about her amazing beauty. It was hard to believe what was happening in the show, because of their bizarre staffing choice for the young, "beautiful " new designer, who was so tempting the esteemed designer, with her beguiling sex appeal, that he was ignoring the blatant risks to his life and livelihood that he was taking, in caving to his more base desires . It could have been a 7 out of 10, if they used a different, more believable actress.
Mandy the Doll (2018)
Zero Scares, Horrible Acting, Garbage Costume and Set Design...
Absolute waste of time. The entire premise of this film is absurd, start to finish . The professional "robbers" are staking out a generic looking middle class home. One which is chock full of home made granny afghans and junk jewelry from Claire's gifts, a la the local mall. I found this to be very distracting and irritating, throughout. If they were bothering to fund and shoot a film, they could have made the slightest effort with the set design. The "loot" they're supposed to be stealing (& fencing to a third party, bc it's so valuable) has the appearance of useless junk items that have zero intrinsic value. Plus, the acting is terrible, and the plot is just as bad. There are zero scares in this movie, nor dark humor, or anything else positive. Just a heap of silly nonsense...
Freakshow (2007)
What a disservice they did, to an absolute classic.
There is nothing redeeming, about this movie. The original was so amazing. The characters were all 3 dimensional, fully formed characters, that you had some interest in their outcome. Here, the only thing they succeeded in doing, was to add a lot more unnecessary gore, with TERRIBLE special effects. The characters were all one dimensional and silly. The "wardrobe " was ridiculous. You couldn't tell if it was supposed to be set in the 1920's, or the early aughts of WHAT time frame. The end sequence with Lucy's characters's metamorphosis (to not spoil anything) , was stupid, was only disgusting, and entirely unrealistic and unnecessary. Nothing with the special effects, looked realistic to a human being's physical form. Yet, it was revolting and silly at the same time. The acting was terrible, across the board. Absolutely nothing positive to say about this crappy remake of a cool classic film.
The Hunger: A River of Night's Dreaming (1998)
The worst story of the entire two seasons
This story is senseless. I never read the short story this was based upon . Perhaps it was less fractured, and was more cohesive. Absolutely nothing about the story from this episode, was cohesive, well acted, or made any kind of sense. Out of 44-46 episodes, this one is by far the worst. It starts with a female prisoner on a bus. The bus has an accident, and said female prisoner is able to escape, due to the accident. She ends up at an old looking house, surrounded by several women, and no males. There is a lot of religious overtones and talks of being saved. Yet she is also being restrained to the bed, and goes from one dreamy sexual sequence to the next. Not a one adds anything to the story, not a single character is well developed or realistic. By the end, it's a cheap stupid explanation, for a bunch of silly female on females almost-sex scenes. Just terrible:-/
O'Hellige Jul! (2013)
Absolutely Nothing Redeemable about this Film.
This film has a ridiculous premise, is poorly executed, and is poorly acted as well. No character development to speak of. You are left bewildered and disappointed, with no explanation for anything even at the end. It is revolting, at every step. From the rape, and baby being beheaded, in the first few minutes, to the last moments which end in silly gore and more stupidity. There is nothing redeeming here. It relies on silly shock value, and a baseless, mentally insulting plot. The film is an utter, total waste of time in every respect. I wish I could have my 90 minutes back. Thank goodness it was free!
Those Who Call (2023)
The Quality of this Film is something a high school student would create
The acting of the two lead characters, is really, really awful. Though you can tell when watching, that they are really trying. That's where the 2 stars in my review came from. The plot is so tired and silly, and chock full of plot holes. I am astonished that I sat through this steaming pile, to the very end. The younger of the two sisters in the film, is a very convincing imbecile. She is such an immature brat, that you're hoping the older sister slaps her at any moment, but it never comes.
Unbelievably Bad Plot, Script, Acting, and Effects. I'd suggest sitting this one out. Unless you have 80 minutes to waste, on being irritated at the stupidity of this film.
