In the Blood (2014)
If Hallmark made an action film
The action sequences are decent, though it takes a while to ramp up. It was shot decently enough but overall, felt like a made for tv movie with extra violence and decent lighting. Gina Carano's acting was passable but not really convincing unless she was beating someone up. She's solid in the Mandalorian series so I chalk this film up to her building her chops. I skipped through so many drawn out sequences in the beginning. Some decent dialogue here and there, and not a total waste of time, but nothing special. It's a vehicle for her to show off her fighting skills and I guess that's all I should have expected.

Well done original film with some familiar themes
First of, I watched this twice. Once alone and once with my wife, who cannot take any kind of gore or torture - so feel safe to view if those are your limits. There's enough in this film that is unique to give it a good rating and enough call back to other films of the same genre that was adapted without being a ripoff. It kept me guessing throughout and everything was delivered in a well thought out manner. My wife's big criticism was she didn't really understand why the main characters were together in the first place but as the film developed, it did make sense to me. No spoiler there, just something to consider if you land on my side or hers. The makeup and acting were really well done. This movie is all about the character's interactions and doesn't rely on jump scares or cgi. A somewhat unique story with a splash of Jewish mysticism. Memorable.

Not amazing but worth the time
Horror movies have been lacking for a while so to find a decent narrative with good effects is to be praised. While it's not going to win any awards, the acting was great, the story line and direction had just enough to keep it moving without ever getting dull and the message felt genuine - even if it was slightly heavy handed. A treasure of a find for me. I have a sliding scale for a good, honest horror movie so I rated it higher than I would a typical dramatic film. Quality acting, somewhat unique, good effects that didn't rely on over-the-top cgi. If you like somewhat witchy stuff, as I do, you'll probably be moved (at least somewhat) by this film.
