Camp (2003)
Keep the remote handy
Keep the remote handy just so you can zip past the "acting" and go straight to the musical numbers! These kids are incredible, I was constantly blown away with the skill level and professionalism of the musical numbers. The setting of a camp added to the atmosphere of surreal...when you see these kids hoofing it
up like they do at what is supposed to be camp, you'll just die. As the one teacher says, "These kids are freaks" and thank god for it.
The whole attempt at a story is going to turn a lot of people off of this film. It's aimless and adds nothing to the film other than to fill time. I was almost irked at some of the scenes because of the serious lack of motivation. Why does Vlad hit on Michael? That whole "I want to be liked" wasn't enough for most of the actions in the film but who cares....it's the music!
Stephen Trask has done it again. The music was so strong, it's almost as if you've heard all the songs before they are just so dead on "musical theater." Whereas Hedwig entertains me all the way thru in addition to the songs, Camp is all about the songs - and again, the amazing, talented kids who perform them.
So see it for the music, but don't expect to get attached to any one of the characters beyond their ability to sing and dance.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
There aren't words to describe how great this movie is
If there was a word more descriptive than "great", or a concept that would tell you more than "fantastic" this would be the time to use it. I watch this film at least once a week I'm so in love with Hedwig. While I shouldn't feel the need to respond to the what, 3 bad reviews of this film, there is this part of me blown away that someone could not like it!
To the person who said that none of the characters were "believable" - you need to watch the film again and realize they aren't supposed to be "real" people per se. Suspend disbelief!!
That said, watch this movie and just enjoy yourself. It's too much fun and too dazzling to handicap it with ideas of the real world. It's non stop funny, intelligent, incredibly well crafted and inspiring just because it provides you with an opportunity to see what happens when great minds push their own creativity and genius.
Mensa festival...how much funnier can you get!?!?!
Committed (2000)
What a waste
Horrible waste of talent. Not even worth watching when there is absolutely nothing else to do. My hope against hope is that the actors at least got paid well. Anyway, if you're a fan of Heather's or Luke's, you'll be really disappointed by this big budget student film.
