I love a good enjoyable Rom Com
5 January 2024
And I loved this movie for the pure entertainment value. This one checks all the boxes for me: Witty and entertaining that have stars with chemistry. It had just enough physical comedy to make you laugh out loud. Anyone But You is a cute and highly enjoyable escapist movie. Is it original? Nope, but who cares. It's up there with The Proposal for me. I also thought the supporting cast were all really great as well. I'm always surprised when I see a movie like this that has too few stars for a rating. I feel like probably the people didn't actually even see the movie or they were rating it as if it was an Oscar contender. Do yourself a favor and go spend a fun 2 hours smiling and laughing.

Really good fantasy series
24 April 2021
I did not read the books, so I can't speak on the faithfulness to them, but this tv series is excellent and highly entertaining. The characters are well developed and the acting is very good. I have to say that when I was watching the first episode, I did feel like it was assuming the viewer would have some knowledge of the world and the people, so it was a bit confusing to start out. It made it more so by the simple fact that I couldn't understand the English accents and it took me half the episode to turn on the subtitles. I have to say my favorite characters are Kaz and his merry band of 'criminals'. I would highly recommend this show to any fans of the fantasy genre.

This was excellent

I'm not typically a big Batman fan... or Superman for that matter. I just find the Batman world too dark and humorless. Within 10 seconds of turning Justice League on, I realized I was going to have to watch Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman if I wanted to watch this one. I had seen and enjoyed all the other relevant movies. I can not say I loved either of them, but they were good enough for me to get through them. I was really hoping I liked this better. Well, I am so glad I watched it. It was incredibly well done and so great to watch. It was very long so I'm not sure how I would have done with it in a theater, but since I was at home I basically watched it as a four part streaming show and took breaks every hour or so. There isn't any of it I would have cut out so I'm pretty sure I'm happy I never saw the original release. It's obviously set up for another one so I really hope they do it. I'd highly recommend it. Great film.

This was entertaining enough for me to binge
10 March 2021
A coworker recommended it to me so I gave it a try. If you are looking for an original work of art, this is not it. Frankly I'm getting sick of people on here reviewing tv shows and movies like they professional film reviewers and every movie is supposed to be Oscar worthy. Very few are...the rest are meant to entertain if you are into that genre. This was very entertaining.

I love post apocalyptic sci fi entertainment. I watched this with the original sound and subtitles. To me, there is not much worse than a dubbed film. I also binged the whole show in one sitting. Granted...it was only 6 episodes, but it was enjoyable enough for me to want to watch the whole thing. I will say for anyone who has a problem with graphic violence...this is not for you. I thought the actors who played the main characters were very good and I loved the way the show switched between the three siblings to tell their stories. I think my favorite character was the youngest sibling, Elja's, companion Moses. He added some good humor to the show. I definitely hope that they do a season 2.

Bingeworthy, entertaining and just scary enough that I could watch it.
15 February 2020
I had no idea what this show was about, but it caught my eye on Netflix. I figured I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did. It was highly entertaining. For me, it was just creepy enough. I probably wouldn't have watched it if it had gotten darker or scarier. This was definitely a family friendly horror version of the graphic novel. The story was great and the acting was pretty good. I'd imagine there will definitely be a Season 2 of this. They certainly left that option open at the end. I'll be tuning in when it comes out.

There is a reason the books were so popular
18 January 2020
A lot of that was the characters as Deaver wrote them. When you take away characters the (highly successful) author created that are central to the books (ie Thom, Mel) and change the ones backstories that you did keep you are left with this....yet another cop show like all the other cop shows. There is nothing interesting about this show. Putting a man in bed does not create something new or exciting. To make it worse, Russell Hornsby's portrayal of Lincoln Rhyme is just off. Sometimes I'll give shows a chance to get better, but this sadly won't be one of them.

Rise (2018)

Rise is a Rising star
16 April 2018
I loved the premise of this high school drama so watched the first episode and thought that the acting and story were great but it was very similar to Glee in way too many ways. I liked it enough to keep watching, though. I'm so glad I did. This show is real. The acting is excellent and the story line took a dramatic turn from the similarities it had to Glee. They are two totally different shows now so I don't think you can even compare them. 'Rise' is a drama involving the real life struggles and successes of high school students and the teachers who are trying to make a difference in the kids' lives. It's about the Arts that are in danger of becoming extinct in our public schools and the difference it makes in people's lives. Give this show a try. You won't regret it.

So incredibly disappointed with how much this veered from the book
29 March 2018
After having read the book 2 times and listening to the Audio book with Wil Wheaton reading once, I can honestly say this Ernest Cline's Ready Player One is probably in my top 10 favorites. I was so excited to see this movie. I'm pretty sure that I have never been as disappointed with a movie from a book as I was with this. Other than the general game story line and the general basis for the characters, 80 percent of this movie was almost like a different story. If you are going for the wonderful 80s nostalgia of the book, skip this and reread...or listen to the audio version (Wil Wheaton does a great job). This made me really sad to see. With Steven Spielberg's clout in Hollywood, I don't know what happened to all the movie and game references. They are just gone. I gave this 2 stars, because if I hadn't been such a fan of the book, I probably would have found it entertaining.

Greater (2016)

Would have been much more appropriate as a Made for TV movie on a Christian station
8 January 2017
There is one thing I want to say right off the bat....this is absolutely not even close to The Blind Side or Rudy...both of which were stellar stories with very good acting. The acting in Greater was B level at its best.

We watched this movie last night and it started off as a lot of inspiring sports movies do...with a kid that is faced with some kind of adversity. In this one Brandon Burlsworth has to overcome a childhood of growing up as a very overweight kid who is ridiculed for it but there are adults in his life who inspire him and help him get through the worst of it so he can keep going with his football aspirations.

It started off as a perfectly nice, entertaining story. We enjoyed it despite the truly B level acting (don't let any of the ridiculous 10 star reviews fool you on that front). It wasn't until the last 3rd of the movie that you actually realized that this was a movie with a very very heavy Christian message. That is not a bad thing if it is advertised as such and that is the type of movie you like or are looking to watch. It really soured me on the whole thing since I think the film makers were pretty underhanded on that front. By the time the first hour and a half of the 2 hour 10 minute movie was over and it started in on the heavy Christian message (complete with a representation of the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other in the form of a nasty man and an innocent high school football player), you were so far in that it wasn't worth turning it off.

If Christian entertainment is what you are looking for, this is probably a 6/7 out of 10 movie.

If you are like me and picked it up as a movie like Rudy or The Blind Side (as advertised), I'd give it a 4.5 out of 10. The end that made me feel like I was in an evangelical church service ruined the entire thing for me.

Rated on pure entertainment factor
5 February 2016
This movie is so fun and so campy. Is it winning any awards?...no. But the acting is good. It's got a great cast and they do a really good job. I was very pleasantly surprised with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

It's a romance. It's horror. It's comedy.

Go for the fun of it and don't take it seriously. This is not a classic Victorian novel and this is not a true tale of zombies like most die hard zombie fans think of them (ie. The Walking Dead or the more classic Night of the Living Dead). I am a true zombie lover. I loved "28 Days Later", "The Walking Dead", "Zombieland", etc. This is not one of those, so if you don't expect to see that when you go to this movie, I think you will enjoy it.

CSI: Cyber (2015–2016)

Not a great start
5 March 2015
I was really looking forward to this show! I used to watch CSI and CSI:Miami. I stopped watching at some point, but always loved the shows and love forensic series in general. CSI: Cyber was combining two of my favorite genres/subjects.

The acting really was not very good at all. Most of the acting was so wooden and monotone...especially Patricia Arquette's. Even Peter MacNicol, who I loved in Numb3rs was not great. The only characters with personality and that I actually enjoyed were the 3 hacker characters (Charley Koontz, Hayley Kiyoko, and Shad Moss).

I didn't mind the dumbing down of the tech stuff like some of the other reviews. You have to be able to appeal to a wider audience than the geeks out there.

I really hope this gets better. I'll probably give it 2 more episodes.

Z Nation (2014–2018)

No, it's not 'The Walking Dead'....it's fun!!!
4 February 2015
No, this is not The Walking Dead, nor is it trying to be. That is a good thing! There is only room for one The Walking Dead which is zombie art! :) This is FUN. Serious campy fun. If you are a fan of Zombieland, I'd compare it more to that than The Walking Dead, which is pure drama.

At the start of the first episode, I was hesitant to keep watching. I'm glad I did. I discovered Z Nation on Netflix. I watched the entire 13 episode first season in about 3 weeks.

Really, the overall rating of this show on IMDb is unfair, which I hate to see. I don't think people gave this a chance. They had a preconceived notion of what it should be. Is it totally original? No, not really. But it is totally entertaining and I'm glad to find that it's been renewed. I did notice while going through the episodes that the individual shows are much higher rated than overall. I was happy to see that.

I love the characters...especially the Citizen Z character that gives them a purpose in a time of total chaos. Doc is the comedy relief. Even Murph seriously grows on you as the series goes.

I look forward to the next season and to how they start it off after that bombshell of a season finale.

Great follow up to the show
31 May 2008
I absolutely do not understand the ridiculously low ratings for this movie. I have to think that most of these people didn't even watch the series when it was on TV. I can even understand not enjoying it as much as you did the series, particularly with all the hype. The type of ratings this has gotten are generally only reserved for B movies or movies with Paris Hilton. As far as I'm concerned, they are skewed and pretty much meaningless.

Now, on to the movie...

I went with a girlfriend to the Friday opening and sat in a female only audience (plus 4 men who I have to believe were drug there by their wives/girlfriends). We both thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I watched the series from beginning to end and thought this movie was a great extension for the show and tied up a lot loose ends that needed tying.

The characters have matured and evolved just enough to make them not boring. Let's face it, if they matured too much, there really wouldn't be anything to watch. It was fun and just downright hysterical in a few places.

I will say that although I liked the idea of the character played by Jennifer Huston, I thought her acting was generally pretty bad. I have to think the only reason for that character was to explain the one part at the end of the film. The also should have done more with Stanford. He really didn't have much of a part at all.

I would highly recommend this movie to any real fans of the TV show.
