Friendship's Death (1987)
Remarkably ahead of it's time, sci-fi.
This film is now an incredible film to watch with so much hi ndsight it talks of AI and the problems of the Palestinian people, it has once again become relevant but probably not a socially acceptable film. I saw this when it came out and enjoyed the performance of an alien viewing Earth as a highly developed humanoid robot, that is appalled at our lack of compassion. The story now once again is relevant and there are surprising echoes of modern issues in it's dated story. I recommend this film and dare you to feel unmoved by what you see now of a problem we still see in the middle east today.
Eye in the Sky (2015)
Great modern war film, thought provoking at it's best.
Really enjoyed this film a modern take on high tech warfare. This film pulls no punches it delivers a serious piece on how soldiers and politicians view a difficult decision in modern terrorism warfare. On the one side you have the soldiers who want to proceed to hit the target and on the other you have the politicians worried about how it looks to hit a target in a non-hostile country. Is it justified when innocent targets may be killed if it prevents a bigger potential threat? Can they remove the innocent from the strike zone in time, does the end justify the means.
I particularly loved the dithering of the politicians always seeking higher clearance, passing the buck so to speak, typical lack of leadership in difficult situations.
Highly recommended for cerebral viewing, don't expect a full on action film, this is a brinkmanship journey done superbly. Great story, acting and tension. Great job!
Future Boyfriend (2016)
Great Short time travel film
Wonderful short film two superb actors, Ron and Emily, who is stunning, really make this a believable story.
Spoilers included: The premise is Ron meets Emily in a nursing home where he looks after her in her old age, he feels he has such a good relationship with her that it would have be great to meet her when she was young. Without giving away more humour ensues as the couple adjust to the reality of the situation, Ron has seen Emily as an old woman Emily can't accept the way she turned out. I particularly love the way Ron cuts up her food for her and then starts feeding her as they talk without her really noticing. Highly recommended. I would love to see them both in more material Emily to me particularly stood out as a beautiful young actress, Good luck to them both.
Permanent Record (1988)
Great 80s movie
This is one of those films you could easily miss but it has a great cast and tackles some serious issues. I feel it has been seriously under-rated and probably forgotten by most people which is a shame It was probably the first time I saw Keanu Reeves and he does a great job here. There is also some great music and one song in particular that doesn't seem to have caught any traction like some, "Wishing On Another Lucky Star", performed by Jennifer Rubin here, is a truly touching piece.
The movie does suffer perhaps a little too much at times from some 80s themes but is still well worth a watch in my opinion. The closest modern version to this film is probably "The Perks of being a Wallflower" which contains many similar issues but these films are not the same.
If you like 80s angst and teen drama this is just for you and at 55 I still remember this film fondly definitely still on my list of great 80s movies.
Mr. Right (2015)
Great fun movie with loads of good actors
This is a wonderful film with all you need for an entertaining dark comedy. Brilliantly acted by Anna, Sam and Tim as the main characters and a script that keeps you riveted all the way. Wonderful fun highly recommended. Also see "Happy Death Day" and the "Accountant" for a more serious but still entertaining film.
Shadowchaser (1992)
Worst film ever!!!
I have seen thousands of films and this is by far the worst! It is a straight cross between Die Hard and Terminator and makes no sense of either story line. I do not understand what the makers thought they where doing, the film is well shot has some reasonably well known actors (no-one huge) the special effects are OK to good but the story and ideas are nuts. I watched this with two friends and we all just sat and looked at each other after it finished then basically tore it apart. The only reason to watch this is so you can tell everyone how bad it is and say you have probably seen the worst serious movie made. This is not a B movie it's a C movie for crap! I'd give it 0 stars if I could. Apparently there are sequels... WHY!
