A Merry Christmas Wish (2022)
Does the casting director think we're blind?!
Does the casting director think we're blind?! This role was intended for a 30 year old but was being played by a 40 something, and the love interest into his 50s. All kind of wrong. Compounded by the childhood friend actually being 30 and therefore making her co-stars look older! All could have been avoided if they just didn't mention or changed the timelines talked about in the beginning.
Yes, I am expecting a predictable love story at Christmas, but some suspension of disbelief is required for enjoyment! Purrrrleeeaaase!
I don't care how old the characters are but some realistic casting is surely easy and no-one wants a young girl and a guy old enough to be her dad.
My Birthday Romance (2020)
Excruciating!
This movie was another level bad. Usually I like the benign predictability of this kind of romance but this one was a tough watch. Ultimately it's the writing, just dreadful dialogue, but also how it was directed. There were long pauses and so many awkward moments that there was not one second of believability. The dancing at the party was soooo cringe. I felt sorry for the actors because so often what comes across as bad acting is actually terrible writing. Not that any of them are winning any acting awards either though the brother, Kyle, did stand out as slightly better. Here's the spoiler (haha) I'm not sure many modern couples declare their love after a few fake dates, a basis of lies and one mega awkward kiss! Super super rubbish.
