Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
This franchise is incapable of making a bad movie
I can't get enough of the movie, the acting is top notch. The action sequences and special effects are the best yet. McQ has made another masterful action movie. Just like Fallout every scene has at least 2 eye catching shots. Plus he adds another dimension to Ethan by bringing in his tragic backstory. Every action is special, it's a visual spectacle and an emotional roller coaster. Hope he continues to make mission movies and furthers his vision for the franchise. Now onto the man the myth the legend Tom Cruise who once again blends his jaw dropping stunts with his most conflicted Ethan Hunt yet. He displays Ethan's moral dilemma with such ease that the movie never seems to stall in a single scene. It's a 2 hour 45 minute film that feels like it's and hour 50. This has perfectly set up part 2 and has left wondering just where the story will end? And how?
Oppenheimer (2023)
Filmmaking is back!!!
We have entered a time in cinema where originality has become less and less of a priority. We've become too comfortable with what is and not invested enough in what could be and this is a narrative Nolan has been pushing since momento he continually does thing his way and shows us what we need to see. And Oppenheimer takes this to a whole new level. His use of non-linear story telling at the forefront again as his concoction of visuals, performances, sound, color, and innovation give the audience the story they need to see. I truly believe that this film and the importance of looking back to go forward will start a new era of filmmaking that will be not so dissimilar to the 90's and 70's.
Rick and Morty: Air Force Wong (2023)
Finally going back to the beginning
In the last 2 seasons Rick and morty has lacked the magic captured in the beginning of the show. Ep 3 is not a perfect representation of what was but bringing back some familiar faces and continuing to develop president Curtis is definitely a step in the right direction. Where is Morty why is he being hidden? Why has this turned into the Rick show although we have some magic we still aren't seeing the banter between these two iconic characters we all love. Maybe it's due to the change in cast but if these next Couple episodes show the same lack of Rick and Morty in Rick and Morty season 8 may become a Cronenberg version of this beloved show.
