Gigli (2003)
Boring
I was disappointed by this movie. I imagined it's badness was overrated and I was correct. Bad movies can be fun, sometimes I seek them out, sometimes they turn out to be unintentionally funny but the other times they bore the hell out of you. Gigli falls into the latter category. The biggest thing going against it, is, it's trying to be funny & stupid. How can you laugh at a poorly executed comedy? I am surprised that they used a retarded dude as comedy relief in these very PC times.
Ben Affleck is awful as usual but I didn't think Jennifer Lopez' performance was too bad (for her.)Also, the movie is far too long and the fact that it sucks just begins to drain all of your energy and you're dying for it to end. There isn't one likable character.
But, I believe that Gigli's reputation as the worst movie ever is undeserved. People love to jump on a bandwagon and even assume things about something they, themselves have never experienced first hand. It's popular to like some things and it's popular to hate other things. I bet most of the people that make fun of "Glitter", "Gigli" & "Adv. Of Pluto Nash" haven't even seen them. Those movies are small potatoes when there's crap like "Reptilicus" out there.
The Evil Dead (1981)
Some laughs but a 7?
I was hesitant to see this because I didn't think it was my type of flick, based on the people that tend to like the series. But I rented it anyway. It turned out to be pretty decent. Some very funny and stupid moments, along w/ some not so special FX. I thought it was so poorly made that you couldn't help but laugh at it. Then, to my surprise, I read comments here at IMDb and these people actually thought it was good. Not so-bad-it's-good, but "brilliant". I'm stunned. Are these people brain dead? I don't give a damn if they only had a couple hundred thousand to make it, that doesn't excuse the bad acting, bad makeup, bad script...bad everything. The sequels are even worse, except, they're not funny. They're just bad, and boring. The character Ash is not cool or funny, he sucks. Why does every movie in this crappy series have a rating over 7? Unbelievable. Not to say there aren't other bad movies w/ high ratings at this site but c'mon man...
Enough (2002)
Hilarious
I love bad movies, I grew up on them. Only a certain type of bad movie though, some of them are just boring but "Enough" has "it". Bad acting, ridiculous situations, cheesy music, characters that do things that make no sense, etc. There is one problem w/ this movie though, it bothered me the 1st time I saw it because it deals w/ a serious subject and it sends some very bad messages to women in "Slim's" situation. A very exploitive movie. You would like to think that a battered woman would be offended w/ this cheap manipulative garbage but apparently, they're aloud to have bad taste in movies just like most of the people in the world. Anyway, Jennifer Lopez gives a terrible, terrible performance and shows absolutely no range whatsoever. Billy Campbell comes off as some kind of comic book super villain and makes you wonder, how could he hide the fact that he's such a bast@rd from her for as long as he did? But who cares, there's tons of laughs in this flick. The scene where Slim receives her first beatdown is a riot from start to finish. There's just too many funny sequences in this movie to list them all. A must see for any fan of bad movies. I make sure to catch it every time it's on and I'm thinking about buying the DVD. Anaconda was a classic bad movie, add Enough to that classic list & I think I might have to check out Maid In Manhattan, Angel Eyes, Wedding Planner & Gigli and have a J Lo festival.
Léon (1994)
The Uncut Version
I've seen the US cut of this movie about 40 times in the last 2 months and I just saw the much hyped uncut international version today and though it was nice to see more of an already great movie, I didn't think the uncut version changed the way I felt about the relationship between the characters all that much, if at all. I guess I can understand why the movie was edited the way it was for the US based on the ridiculous comments I've read stating the uncut version portrays them as lovers. I don't know, maybe there's another cut out there that includes a scene where Leon doesn't push her away and instead, makes hot, passionate, "Woody Allen style" love to her but I doubt it. Truthfully, only 2 scenes not in the US version were really worth seeing, the very first one, about an hour and 10 minutes in and the last "extra" scene, which takes place right after Leon saves her from the D.E.A. building. The US version is not as bad as people make it out to be, it's far from "just an action movie" the first time I saw it, I was drawn in by the characters and I actually cared what happened to them, which rarely happens to me. I wouldn't say I prefer the US version but I would tell someone who has only seen the US cut that their world isn't exactly incomplete if they haven't seen the Uncut version.
