Identity (2003)
another ableist movie about DID
At least this one is somewhat less ableist then other horror movies about systems (like 'Split'). Actually maybe the last scene changes my mind about that...
This could have so easily been a great movie if they didn't do the whole "look how scary a MENTAL ILLNESS HAVER!!" like they could have had the plot be exactly the same and cut all the ableism if they made it a paranormal thing where the guy was possessed or something.
Other then all the awful ableism or dangerous misinformation and stereotypes the movie is quite good. I'd probably give it a 7/10. The characters were interesting, the cinematography was nice, and the plot never got boring.
Don't Breathe (2016)
repetitive, ableist, and SA for shock
This movie could be good if it wasn't for the rape scene that was only there for shock value. It in no way progressed the plot and the movie would have been much better without the scene.
This movie is also hopelessly repetitive. Almost escape, get caught, almost escape, get caught, over, and over.
This movie is also full of ableist stereotypes to compensate for the poor writing. Blind people in fact do not have super sonic hearing or can move at the speed of light. Being blind isn't a super power, if you want a super villain make them one.
Tried to be suspenseful and have twists but failed horribly.
Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché (2021)
lovely documentary
This documentary is a lovely insight into who poly styrene was when she wasn't on stage. The documentary is not too focused on the daughter, she was a massive part of poly's life and poly had been dead for 10 years when the documentary was realised so its not like they could have just asked her for more information to put into the documentary. Id have loved to seen more about the other members of X-ray spex but the documentary is ment to be about just poly styrene so that's ok.
If you think calling the film "I Am a Cliché" is rude then you clearly no absolutely nothing about X-ray spex or poly styrene. X-ray spex made a song called "i am a cliché" that's where the name is from.
I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)
great idea, badly executed
This could have been much better, the idea was quite interesting but the pacing was awful and it was very predictable. After a few minutes it was obvious what was going to happen and the rest of the movie was Lucy, the hospice nurse, wandering around the house with a few jump scares scattered in. The only thing that stoped me from turning it off immediately was the fact that Lucy's actor was very good. Something about her just felt off in the best way possible for a horror movie. The other 2 actors didn't do much at all. I think the idea was that the quite would add to the scariness but instead it just made it feel like an empty story.
