Anyone But You (2023)
Disappointed after looking forward to seeing this moving
I was so excited to see a rom-com come out again as it is my favourite feel good type movie however I was so disappointed in this story as it had potential. The acting of some of the supporting actors was poor and came across as acting. The lesbian marriage was not believable and awkward as they looked like two teenage girls playing house. It was cringe worthy. Some of the 'naked' scenes were not necessary. What was with the smoking too? In this day and age we know how disgusting it is and it didn't serve any purpose in the movie. So glad I didn't have to pay to watch this movie as it was offered on a channel I subscribe to. There was some good laughs here and there but this movie just couldn't pull it together enough to make it ever become a classic rom com movie.
Apples Never Fall (2024)
I tried to like it but I just couldn't overlook the unnecessary changes made
I read the book about a year ago and enjoyed the mystery of the story so I was excited to see they made it into a mini series. Sadly they changed more than they should have from the book. I get that you need to make some changes to shorten the story to make it work into the time slot but this was way too much. The things that were changed did not need to be changed. I also found two of the siblings were not cast well or maybe it was the changes to the storyline that I was reacting to but they just felt like imposters to the storyline. I really tried to like this series but I just couldn't get past the ridiculous changes that had no purpose. Viewers expect better adaptations of book to live action these days so no excuses for the poor work.
The Baxters (2024)
Loved watching these books come to life!
I was so excited to finally see these books come to life after hearing it was in production. The books are obviously more fulsome in length/story telling but I think overall the adaptation to the screen is pretty good. My only criticism is that I wish the episodes were a bit longer as I think it would have helped the stories not feel as rushed and there were some moments in the first couple of episodes where some of the actors felt like they were acting but it did improve over the episodes. I really hope there will be more seasons that finish off the series and go into the spin off books. If you haven't read the books you likely won't enjoy the show quite as much but it would still be worth the watch if you enjoy wholesome shows with real life problems.
