Fired Up! (2009)
Not a teen movie but a great movie
I was expecting a teen movie and was in fact very pleased to see very good acting, good directing, good filming and excellent lines ! If you like teen movies with 12 years old kind of jokes always link to pubes and excrement, do not watch Fired Up ! The acting is really good here and the lines are just so good, I found myself and my flatmates reusing them..
I actually watched this movie a second time and spotted things I did not even notice during the first viewing ! I mean the details and the number of characters with their very specific personality amazed me. This movie is rich and you will definitely think that it only lasted 30 minutes.
I read many comments comparing this movie to others but, I would say that in terms of "how good the lines are", I would compare it to Wedding Crasher, plus the main actors are really coordinated and it adds to the credibility of the movie.
It will definitely cheer you up and is the perfect movie to relax. Even the soundtrack is good and various.
Religulous (2008)
Very interesting and based on facts
At first I was a bit disappointed that Bill Maher did not go into more details but I then quickly realized that if he had done so, he would have made a documentary of 38 hours long at least.
As I am a very curious person, I have been constantly pausing the movie to double check the truthfulness of his facts and I was nicely surprised to see that everything that I've checked was true ! I honestly did believe that he was just chatting sh%t at some point but he wasn't !
Obviously, you could see him as very one-sided and arrogant person but he is just putting facts (he does come across a bit cocky). He is not here to say that religious people are stupid, he is just saying that the "religious facts" are because they contradicts themselves !
I watched the movie a second time with friends and two of them were quite religious but they did not feel offended...why..maybe because they tolerate other people opinions (my mate are cool anyway). However, I understand that some religious people that are very very very insecure about their belief and intolerant, don't want to be contradicted and will react quite violently to this documentary...which kind of explain the mess we're living in
Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia (2009)
Cheap, stereotypical, predictable, poor acting...Was it supposed to be a porn?
Where do I start? When the movie first started, I wondered if there were a problem with the image quality and with the way it was filmed ! This is the same quality of a cheap porn. Did they use the same camera ?
Secondly, to reinforce this image of a cheap porn, the actors/actresses's acting skills are very poor and they all look like porn actor/actresses: male all bodybuilded on steroid, female all bimbo !
Add to that the very poor special effect (explosion made by my little brother, no real stunts (green screen), no military expertise...) ... This movie is very disappointing ! I don't mind bad acting in a "action/navy seal movie" but this is quite bad and I expect at least credible explosion !
Oh and did I mention the massive clichés...this movie is so stereotypical and predictable
Playing Ghost Squad or Rainbow 6 on your xbox is more realistic ... I put a 2 because I saw worse ..
Turistas (2006)
Less gore than Hostel but better script/adventure
I do not fancy horror movie (usually fall asleep) and would rate all horror movies below 4 because of their lack of script. Therefore, I've rated this one comparing it to other horror movies (hence the 8).
The main problem of this movie was its promotion. It did sell itself as a gore movie and put itself in the same category of Hostel. But this is not the case. If you really want to see a gore movie, with torture, blood and gross stuff for the major part of the film, go and see Hostel (I personally found the plot in Hostel interesting but the rest of the movie too unrealistic and kept laughing most of the time)
The acting in Turistas is quite good and contrary to what other comments wrote, this is quite realistic and nobody is really making stupid choices. The "good guys" are not the usual stupid ones with the "Ok, let's split in small groups !" kind of line and most of their decisions are taken because there is no apparent danger or because the danger yet is obliging them to take a specific route. The villains are not all heartless whose unique goal is to kill people just because, well.... they are the villains
I wouldn't classified this movie as a gore/horror one but would definitely put it in the adventure/horror category. Please note, that there are some gore moments as seen in Hostel but the difference is that they do not take the major part of the movie. The adventure is quite good and if you have claustrophobia or plan to travel to Brazil I wouldn't recommend Turistas. They are 2 or 3 mistakes in the scripts such as things that are not there and then appear from nowhere but I won't spoil the movie telling more.
I noticed that some comments wrote that there was a dark part where you don't see anything. Once again, this movie is quite realistic and they did not switch on the light in the middle of the jungle but you can see what's going on (I saw it on DVD not at the cinema, I remember watching Superman Returns at the cinema and not being able to see what was going on at the end). Finally, this is true that the end in not unpredictable but this is not the kind of movie where I would expect a twist at the end. Simply because I found it quite realistic (But I would still go back to Brazil !!!).
Pathfinder (2007)
END CONTAINS SPOILER -Historical nonsense, bad acting and lame action: here is the path you choose
Historically there are just mistakes over mistakes, with things that shouldn't be there at the time an so on.. so I assumed it was entirely a fiction and look for the action...
So I was happy when fight start 20 minutes after the beginning of the movie but this is nonsense...the "savior" got some skills coming from nowhere and the action is quite lame.. It's a bit like Hercules the series but longer..
Please note that some of the blood is CGI
Here is the story: Vikings, barbarians that only cross the Atlantic to kill people for fun, let a boy behind. This boy, as Vikings seems to be a superior race than Native Americans, become quickly the strongest and most good-looking person. Unfortunately, 20 years later, The Vikings used their GPS to come back to the exact same spot where they had their KBRF Party (=Kill Blood Raaaahh Fun).
As usual, a whole tribe of Native Americans against the Vikings lose easily but 1 man will easily beat them. After all, they are only Vikings and deep inside, if they are doing that, it's because they are missing Ikea...

Native Americans are all topless, then after 30 minutes and 500 meters away from the camp, you realized there is snow everywhere...? At that point you realized that if you go 500 hundreds meters away from sea level, you end up on top of a mountain.. Oh well, at least, the savior can slide with a shield when Vikings chase him using sleighs as bobsleighs..
Excellent quote such as:
Savior - "Leave and you may live, stay and you will die" [...]
Old guy - "What would you do?"
Savior - "Stay and kill as many as I can"
All the most predictable line of a B action movie are there:
- The "Go,I'll stay behind" one
- The "I was about to get caught but the good guy arrive and put his hand on my mouth so I don't scream" one
- The "I kill my friend that is being tortured" one
- The "because I'm a girl I cannot fight and will hit you in the balls" one
- The "oh no, I'm bleeding everywhere, surprisingly I'm dying" one
- The "let's kill everybody but keep the hero(s) alive otherwise the movie is finished" one
- The "I don't accept failure and I'm a bad guy so I kill my partner" one
- The "I can always say the right lines before dying" one
- The "I'll sacrifice myself but I know I will never die as I'm the hero" one
- The "I won't talk but when you threaten to cut the hand of my girlfriend to make me talk I will react at the last minute" one
- The "I'm a prisoner but I'll keep it real and will try to beat you up when you're not talking to me nicely and that will end up in you beating me" one
- The "I have a very good strategy that is so predictable" one
- The "you can't die if you had not fulfill your destiny" one
- The "hero and main bad guy never die" one
The Pleasure of Your Company (2006)
Is it supposed to be funny or even romantic?
First, it seems that "the Next Girl I see", "The Pleasure of Your Company" and "Wedding Daze" are the same movie. It was quite boring and not really funny. I first thought it was going to be quite funny because they would have make this movie very unrealistic. I was wrong.
It wasn't funny and wasn't realistic. You don't get caught in the "romance" or drama at all and the jokes are quite lame; except if you are 12. Please accept my apologies if you are 12 and feel offended. I don't really know how to explain that but it's not tangible therefore you expect the rest of the movie to follow that idea. Then, at some point they tried to be serious. They tried to make the romance credible. But it doesn't work.
Many people left the cinema and we should have done the same. I was so bored that I even found myself enjoying salty pop corn (the sweet ones were finished)
Eagle vs Shark (2007)
Not funny but quite depressing
To be honest, I love some of my independent movies but this one was actually awful. From the beginning, I found it depressing, not funny at all except if you enjoy taking the p*ss of people that have mental disabilities... The "gag/jokes" were predictable and lame.
At some point I found it gross even though the movie in itself wasn't. I guess it's just that I didn't found that the situation of both character was laughable..
As it was stated in the main user comment, it is not gross such as the Borat movie but at least I found the latter funny, picking up on important point on our society, showing our defaults (mainly our ignorance and intolerance). The Borat movie was not at all about sex, p*o and p*e but it was satire. And if the user that wrote the main comment didn't understand that, I do not understand what he/she saw in Eagle and Shark...
The only good point is that the actors played well but even if you play well in a rubb*sh movie, it doesn't change anything..
Sicko (2007)
If you're afraid of the truth and want to live in a lie, don't watch it
I knew about all that but never wanted to believe it. We have worse healthcare than Salvador, a third world country ! I lived in France and in London and he's right and not exaggerating anything...
Our country, freedom? When we only have the choice to vote between Right or Right (not that Left is the way but we just don't have the choice), forgotten poor people are the one going to war to pay their studies, poor people don't get healthcare and so on !
We just took advantage of the second world war putting the rest of the world in debt and then started invading the "weakest" countries to steal their resources (gas, oil...) and impose our way of thinking.. We could change things by going in the street or even better "voting" but well we must be stupid...poor people voting for the one that will make healthcare/education/benefit harder for them to get , afro-American voting for the one that will show more racism...and so on..
I'd love to see people reacting after this movie but a) we are so selfish that we will forget everything until the day we get sick; b) it is easier to do a revolution in Iran than here in the USA; if everybody in Iran go in the street the Iranian army won't be able to do anything but here if you try to do something that goes against the US government, you're already dead or in jail.
