A great 'B' movie
4 August 2002
How can one movie be so bad but so wonderfully good at the same time? Death Race 2000 accomplishes this. Set in the `future' of 2000, racers gear up to race in a cross county road race to see who can finish 1st with the most points. How do they collect points? By running people over of coarse. This movie is a far throw from the multimillion-dollar movies of today, but yet, tends to be as good, if not better, than some of the newer movies. It not only tells a fun and enjoyable story, it has fun sets and props. With a minimal budget this movie was able to make some *very* cool looking cars. This movie was meant to be taken seriously, but that is what makes it so good. It has laughable acting and a strange plot. If you enjoy older sci-fi movies, and David Carradine, you have to see this movie. This movie is a *must* see for all the campy movie fans, and sci-fi fans alike.

The book was much better
18 July 2002
I've rented this movie a few times, each time hoping maybe I could see some good in it and actually FINISH the movie. I never have. 2001: A Space Odyssey is bland and boring. I am a fan of most all sci-fi, but I can't watch this movie without wanting to turn it off. Reading the book was a lot more satisfying. The book goes in depth about the characters and that is where the movie fails. It fails to let me identify with the characters or what is happening. If I hadn't of read the book, I wouldn't have understood most of the movie. Read the book; stay away from the movie.

What can I say...
16 July 2002
If you like movies that go absolutely NOWHERE for 2/3rds the movie, this movie is for you. This Don Johnson gem is one of the best cult classic movies. The premise of a man searching for women by using his talking dog in a post-apocalyptic future is well...surprisingly boring. The movie as a whole was not worth watching, but a few scenes TOTALLY make up for the entire movie. I suggest you get a friend that has seen the movie, and have him tell you what parts to fast forward past. The ending is *WELL* worth the rental fee though...
