decent prequel
23 May 2009
but no tight leather, but chainmail instead.

OK this movie was a decent movie. it explained a few questions that i had after watching the second movie but some holes in it too. oh and the werewolves were a little more convincing this time too. guess coz it had a focus on them. Bill Nighy was good with his role of Viktor. he is a very convincing actor and loses himself in his character. Rhona Mitra and Michael Sheen are good too. i guess the only down side is you already know whats going to happen in the end. but hey, thats the same with all prequels, but its always interesting how it happens.

all in all a decent prequel in a decent franchise with some solid acting from a few of the actors.

Campy happiness

Warning: Spoilers
this movie would be one to watch with friends and not to be taken seriously, with that in mind this movie is very enjoyable. from the good performance of Rachel Nichols in her wet dress, cleavage and bouncing and defending herself to the performance of Wes Bentley playing an obsessed security guard whom goes too far. What starts as an average movie turns into a much faster splatfest galore. although the movie is a bit predictable at times, its definitely one of my more favourite movies of the horror genre.

the best scene is probably when Rachel Nichols has to defend herself against a rottweiler :P

makes you want to jump through a window...
4 October 2008
and tackle someone and shoot them.

This movie has a slightly slow start, and you feel slightly sorry for Liam Neeson's character as things with life just all seem to go against him. Only to soon after have his daughter kidnapped in France as part of the sex trade.

Neeson goes after her, after what would frighten any parent, hearing the kidnapping of his child whilst on the phone to her. Neeson stops at nothing to get her back.

This is where the pace of the movie accelerates 10 fold. It does not stop. It just goes and goes. You have a feeling of satisfaction as each person is killed by Neeson, knowing what they support, thats what you want to happen to them.

Then towards the end, Liam jumps through a window to reach them because there is no other way. You just wanna try it yourself.

The action in this movie is great, the performances great, especially by Liam Neeson. I can't wait for this to come out on DVD, definitely a great watch.

predictable but done well
3 October 2008
this is a Jim Henson company movie but there is no puppetry. i must start with that. but i found that did not ruin the movie.

Stephanie Leonidas plays Helena, a girl who has grown up in circus life and wants a 'normal life'. She is a talented artist and has walls taken up by her drawings.

She finds herself in a different world. One made of cgi...which is really well done. She meets with a man named Valentine who saves her from the shadow. They set out to find the charm that will restore balance between the two kingdoms.

this movie is quite predictable, kind of another coming of age movie done as a fantasy. the acting is done well and the CGI characters are really cool. very entertaining.

pay attention to the signs on a road and you won't die
3 October 2008
me and some mates watched this movie coz it was on. pretty much a waste of time. within 5-6 minutes there is a pretty gruesome death and throughout the movie goes on from there.

a bunch of people in a forest making a reality show and start being hunted and killed 1 by 1 by a family of inbred people.

some parts in this movie are completely gross, whereas other parts you just laughh at how ridiculous it is and will probably feel like it goes on forever.

oh and Henry Rollins' character throws a bit of 'Rambo' action into the movie, thats pretty funny.

one weird movie, entertaining all the same
3 October 2008
mate said to watch this movie saying it was really good, so i did.

John Cusack, almost unrecognizable at first, did a great job playing Craig Schwartz, a puppeteer who is getting no where and so gets himself a job filing at an office on the 7 1/2 floor...for short people.

Cameron Diaz plays his wife who works at a pet shop and is a bit of a weird character, especially when Craig finds a door that is a portal to John Malkovich's head.

I found the concept a good one, and it was slightly funny, it doesn't focus on being comedic. I did find the movie was getting weirder and weirder as it drew closer to the conclusion and some parts i think that could've been left out...but otherwise was an alright movie.

powerful and moving
11 September 2008
i am very glad i was able to watch this movie and can understand why it won an academy award for best foreign film. this movie presented its story in a very strong way.

Tsotsi is a 19 year old African male and is the leader of his own small gang. One night he goes out alone and shoots a woman to steal her car, and whilst driving discovers there is a baby that is still in the backseat. He then took the child and went back home and starts on a path of self redemption.

all the acting in this movie is very very good, all of it convincing. talented actors and i would like to see them in other movies.

another great movie from Mclean
11 September 2008
remembering i enjoyed Wolf Creek and to hear that Greg Mclean was directing another movie i was much looking forward to it.

when i eventually was able to purchase the movie i was not disappointed. the acting was very good, especially by John Jarratt and Michael Vartan.

the big croc was reasonably convincing and though the movie is not really a scary one, i sure as hell would not wanna find myself near one of those things at all.

yeah this movie is less a scary movie but definitely one for entertainment and a good Aussie movie.

a good little movie
16 August 2008
mate lent me this and as i started watching it i found out it was a nickelodeon movie, but didn't stop me.

this isn't an in-depth great movie. its just Jack Black being himself in a slapstick movie with a bit of crude humour and basically its just a good little entertaining movie.

you watch it and kinda want Nacho to win because he's fighting for the benefit of the orphans ya know.

Hector Jimenez was funny to watch and Ana de la Reguera made a good performance as well. And little Darius Rose as the cute Chancho are what made this film i reckon.

Great Muppet Fun!!!!
16 August 2008
i remember seeing this movie in the cinemas when i was a kid and unfortunately never had the opportunity to see it again until recently. i was finding movies to buy and i had told my sister once i wanted it. she came to me and showed me she had found it and without a second thought i bought it.

we watched it that afternoon and i was in such a good mood watching it. from small appearances by Billy Connolly play Billy Bones to Tim Curry playing Long John Silver was great. the muppets spin on this classic tale was a lot of fun to watch. the muppets truly did well with this movie.

this movie will be enjoyed by all the family young and old, soft and tough. you cannot go wrong with this.

Immortal (2004)

this is different but thoroughly enjoyable
15 August 2008
I watched this movie at a mate's place coz he said i should watch it and i'm glad i did.

first of all its different in the fact that the landscape and city has cgi rendering to it and all but three characters are also cgi. many people believe this ruins the feel to it but i reckon adds to it and makes it really cool.

the story that is there is very faint (this turns a lot of people off this movie). there doesn't seem to be much of one. I mean it is the year 2095 and yet there is a floating pyramid with three Ancient Egyptian gods in it.

Horus is allowed out amongst earth for 7 days before being locked up again. He finds a man (Thomas Kretschmann) who had been in cryogenic freezing for 30 years as punishment but his pod had crashed a year early. Horus makes a deal with him and possesses his body. Horus helps this man, whose name is Nikopol to have sexual intercourse with a blue alien lady. She goes by the name Jill (Linda Hardy) who can't remember her past and is taking pills given to her by a man clad in black.

The mayor uses an ancient creature called a Dayak (the cgi looks really cool for this creature) that can track down any being with a sample of DNA to track down Nikopol.

With a cool soundtrack mainly done by Icelandic band Sigur Ros and the great use of cgi and the good acting, Immortel is definitely a unique movie.

16 Blocks (2006)

a basic idea made entertaining by its actors
16 July 2008
i bought this movie because i remember seeing trailers for it at the cinemas and was never able to actually go see it. i was not disappointed and definitely believe it was worth its money.

basically Detective Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) has to deliver a witness to the court case through 16 blocks of New York traffic. Jack didn't want the job but had to take it.

the witnesses' name is Eddie Bunker, played by Mos Def, who does a really good job in this movie. Jack at first finds him extremely annoying at first but when his loyalties are questioned the two grow closer.

this movie is quite entertaining in itself. Bruce Willis as always does a good job playing a cop. Mos Def is funny and brings good life to the character and the chemistry between him and Bruce are great. David Morse at Detective Frank Nugent as well does a good job.

the plot is simple but made very entertaining by those three actors and some of the smaller characters. a great watch.

this is way better than you think
14 July 2008
i really wanted to see this movie because i was disappointed with the first Hulk movie. and i feel safe to say that this movie deserves a 10 out of 10.

Edward Norton plays Bruce Banner, a choice i did not see coming. i reckon he did a really good job acting his character. Liv Tyler was pretty decent as well and Tim Roth who played Emil Blonsky was good.

i liked it how Bruce was in hiding for a long time and actually learnt ways to be able to keep himself relaxed so he wouldn't turn in Hulk.

people say that the last i think bout 30-40 mins was a let down because it was just silly that The Abomination was destroying the city and that The Incredible Hulk had to fight and stop him. but i really liked the level of action that was in this movie.

Of course Stan Lee has a cameo in this movie like he has done with the movies based off his characters but you also have a cameo of Lou Ferrigno...who is known to have started portraying the Hulk in the 70s TV series, he also does the voice of Hulk in this.

good action, good acting, oh and you don't have to wait over an hour before you see The Incredible Hulk.

better than i expected, great surprise
14 July 2008
i bought this movie after reading up about it and remembering i always liked Batman of the Future (Batman Beyond) i decided to buy it because it was cheap.

this movie was so awesome. from the dark past of Robin being kidnapped by The Joker and Harlequinn and transforming him into a mini-joker and then how the Joker returned even though thought dead. The Joker is entertaining to watch, and is voiced by Mark Hamill himself who does an awesome job being his voice.

the movie has a nice twist and is quite a dark movie but very entertaining, definitely worth watching.

very good batman movie
14 July 2008
i bought this because it was cheap and i had read up on it and i realised it was a continuation of the 90s Batman cartoons i had grown with.

I've always liked the character of Batman and i enjoyed this muchly. the use of flashbacks to show Bruce Wayne's life before he took up the bat and the woman he was with. then another flashback shows Bruce starting to want to fight crime but not knowing how to go about it right.

there is a mysterious killer that is going around Gotham that is murdering a gang of now old gangsters and Batman is being blamed. The Joker is also involved in this movie and is very entertaining to watch. voiced by Mark Hamill. oh and Kevin Conroy was a great voice for Bruce Wayne/Batman.

the movie has a good twist, decent animation, good voice acting and great plot. all in all a great edition to the Batman collection.

not everyone's cup of tea
14 July 2008
i watched this because i reckon Zach Braff is awesome and i know Jason Bateman is a funny man. well i watched this and was disappointed.

i'll be honest most disappointed probably by Zach Braff. he was too similar to his character J.D from Scrubs. and he wasn't particularly funny when he was meant to be doing something funny.

Jason Bateman was good in the movie but i found i got really annoyed at his character because he's such an a**hole.which wasn't actually something negative.

there are just quite too many weird things like the job that Tom (Zach Braff) takes in the movie. i just got a feeling maybe they tried a little too much to be funny, i don't know, thats just my impression. quite disappointing.

Delicatessen (1991)

original and very enjoyable
14 July 2008
post apocalyptic world. food is hard to find. the more food you have basically the wealthier you are. in France. people underground called the Trologs that are like rebels to people on the surface.

thats the basis for this movie. a butcher owns a delicatessen underneath multiple levels of tenants.its the only building standing on the block. the tenants are very diverse in personalities, entertaining and weird.

for eg a man that has ankle high water in his room and very wet for frogs and snails to breed for his food. a woman who tries very inventive ways to commit suicide because she hears voices in her head. a man that puts cans on his deaf mother-in-law to know where she is. i have never seen a bunch of people so crazy. oh and some kids that do some creative stuff. these characters don't do much to the story but add a lot of entertainment.

the butcher has quite a strange business. he puts ads out for a free room and waits to see who will follow up on the ad to live in the room. they stay around for however so long, doing labour jobs around. then at night he kills them, chops them up, and gives them to the tenants of the building for their meat intake.

Louison comes along because of the ad in the paper for the room not knowing whats going on. he used to be a clown in the circus. a romance between him and the butcher's daughter forms which lightens the movie.

the movie is very original, whacked and very entertaining and quite funny as well. a gem of a movie in the 90s.

very different!!!
14 July 2008
i watched this movie and it took quite a long time before i understood what was going on.

this movie definitely is a very different movie and i only continued to watch for the experience of the movie.

it is very creative though. like the use of claymation,stop-motion and life sized puppets for some of the characters. these creative ideas and the movie's massive "what the?" factor about it is probably why i gave it a 6 out of 10.

i would recommend this movie more for the cultural experience of different movies but thats all i can really give it.

stands on its own feet
7 July 2008
i hired this movie when i found out Kevin Sorbo was in it and only remembered him from the legend of hercules TV series. i watched this and i found this one to be better than The Rock's one.

the movie isn't just a hack slash seeking revenge movie, has its fair share of drammatical points as well.

i found the movie had a much stronger storyline to it and way better acting. Kevin Sorbo is a very good actor and does a great job. another upside of this movie is the use of not very big actors, which i find ads to the plus side of this movie. A.J Buckley did extremely well as the bad guy in this movie.

i found this better in everyway. you cannot go wrong with this.

farfetche'd but so cool and funny
7 July 2008
i was watching TV and there was an ad on that showed this movie was going to be on later that night, i thought why not? got nothing better to do. so i watched it.

it starts off seeming very western and thort it would be from a western point of view, but was son changed to an Indian family and their story and points of view on things.

it is a musical and most of the songs and when people sing and dance around they are quite funny.

Mr. Kohli, an Indian who has become a part of the American culture who comes back to India to look for a wife is both annoying and funny.

it turns out to be a happy ending which just makes you go awwww. this is a fun movie to watch

Hancock (2008)
10/10
comedy,action,romance and drunk superhero!!!
6 July 2008
i had been excited for months to see this movie and when i finally did i did not find it any let down to my expectations at all.

Hancock (Will Smith) ,a person with super powers should be a hero, which he is, and loved by the people, which he definitely isn't.

after dealing with a crime costing 7 mill in property damage and saving the life of Ryan (Jason Bateman), Hancock goes to prison to turn over a new leaf from the advice of Ryan.

the movie has many funny parts throughout and awesome action. many people say the last half of the movie ruined it, but i disagree. to me it made the film, and did a good job.

you can't help but laugh
20 June 2008
watched this at a friend's house. for some reason they really really wanted to see this movie. we put it on, and me and two of my mates could not stop at just laughing at this movie.

the idea is so-so, it could've been delivered better but just wasn't. the acting wasn't all that great, and some of the plagues looked quite fake.

then towards the end it starts to make some twists which were just lame and the ending, well my mates and i could not stop laughing at it and making fun of it. please do not take this movie seriously and you may find some enjoyment out of it, otherwise avoid it.

absolutely ruined
20 June 2008
after watching the first Starship Troopers and thinking that it was totally awesome i hastily put on the second movie. i was told it was a lot worse but i thought "how bad can it be?". well it was worse than anything i could've prepared myself for.

from the very beginning, and then throughout, you can tell this is a B grade movie at its best. the entire movie was filmed on one set, the camera work was bad, the acting was bad. the Bugs looked bad. pretty much everything was bad.

this movie goes for the horror angle and it does not deliver. the "idea" of what the Bugs are now doing was there, but the movie ruined it.

this movie was basically a lame excuse for gore and naked girls. thats probably the only reason that this got a 2 star rating.

as lame as it is...
20 June 2008
its actually entertaining. i read all over with people saying this movie was bad, but i bought it anyway just for the experience of watching the movie and i had some extra money.

i sat down and watched this movie with no expectations whatsoever because i did not want to lean one way with my opinion. and i was thoroughly entertained.

OK the storyline is a bit lame. that when a meteor struck earth, it did not destroy the dinosaurs, but split the earth by making a parallel world where dinosaurs lived. on earth (where we live) humans evolved from apes. but right next door, the people there evolved from dinosaurs.

Mario and Luigi find the portal to the parallel world when Luigi's love interest was kidnapped by a pair of goons.

the world they go into is crazy, the people are crazy. cars are just plain weird. and around the town are Goombas (de-evolved people done by Koopa as punishment) and baby dinosaurs can also be seen.

there are some references with the games that you can see in this movie which i think just adds to the humour.

its basically a lame little lighthearted movie that does what its supposed to do, entertain. if you go to watch this movie, have no expectations and don't think it ties in with the game. this is a story on its own.

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1998–2007)

always funny, never a let down
18 June 2008
i used to flick through on foxtel and would see the name of this show pop up on the guide and i used to always change channel without giving it a chance. and then one time i sat and watched a 5 episode back-to-back thing and i absolutely cracked up with laughter. my dad and i are great fans of the show and would often be brought to tears by laughing so much.

i find it hard to pick a favourite. Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, Drew Carey (can be quite funny at times), and the regular guests as the fourth person. like Brad Sherwood, Greg Proops, Kathryn Greenwood. these guys are a bunch of geniuses at improv.

i often enjoyed how there would be one main thing of the episode (like one of Colin's many colourful shirts, or one of Ryan's very interesting pair of shoes, or even a stuff up) and would often refer to those things in another sketch, putting it in somewhere.

this show i found was always funny and even episodes i had already seen, i still found funny.

remember, the points don't matter
