Latter Days (2003)
entertaining and well-done
I really liked this movie. It was funny and romantic, and an interesting look at how homosexuality can come between a person and religion. I found myself very emotionally invested in this movie-- sure, a few lines here and there are a little hokey, but overall, it was a well-written, well-produced film. This film was especially intriguing for me. I have several close gay, lesbian, and bisexual friends, and I am very adamant in my belief that homophobia is a serious issue with horrible effects. I thought the actors playing Aaron and Christian did a wonderful job portraying two young people caught in the middle of this issue. I won't get preachy about why everyone should see this movie and consider its topics, I'll just say this...
Latter Days is sweet, funny, romantic, heartfelt, and an all-around entertaining movie. It doesn't hurt that Steve Sandvoss is completely adorable, either. Whether you're interested in gay/lesbian issues or just want to see a good movie and be entertained, check it out.
Boy Meets Girl (1998)
A sweet romantic comedy; artful and funny
I loved this movie. Sean Astin was (as always) completely adorable, and I'd never seen Emily Hampshire in anything before and thought she was very good as well. This movie had a beautiful tone and color; the music was perfect (the Italian and the children singing-- I loved it) and the cinematography was unique and fun to watch. Sure, this movie wasn't the funniest or the most well-written of all romantic comedies, but it was simple and sweet and a perfect Valentine's movie. I highly recommend it for fans of romantic comedies who just want a little love in their lives!!
That Old Feeling (1997)
Don't underestimate this movie!
This movie is adorable. I've seen it about six times but I never tire of it. I enjoy the comedy between Bette Midler and Dennis Farina, who are both fantastic, but watch this movie for Paula Marshall and Danny Nucci. They are both hilarious and sweet. This movie may not be the most popular one, but I'd rather watch this than many of the romantic comedies that have come out recently. Rent it, especially if you're a romantic comedy fan! It's great!!!
Hollywood Homicide (2003)
Hilarious and lighthearted fun!
My sister and I saw this film mainly because we liked cast and we love seeing films of all kinds. It turned out to be one of the best movies I have seen in a long time! One of the first things that I noticed was what great chemistry Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett had, despite the fact that one might never associate these two. It was great fun seeing Harrison Ford so loose and amusing, but at the same time giving an exciting action performance one comes to expect from his movies. As for Josh Hartnett, I've always liked him well enough but never had a reason to be a real fan. This movie, however, gave me definite reason to respect him as an actor.
It's not so much that each individual event was so extremely funny, but the fact that this film kept us laughing the ENTIRE TIME. The overall plot was interesting and exciting, but I found that it was the interaction of the characters that made this film really worthwhile. Give this one a try whether you're looking for fine acting, exciting action, or just a few laughs!! --Tara
The Odd Couple (1970)
Remains among my favorites even though it's absent from TV
I positively adore this show. I've always been a fan of Neil Simon's play, and the movie was great, the it's the TV show that really made me love Felix and Oscar. Tony Randall and Jack Klugman ARE The Odd Couple in my mind!! This show was before my time, so I first saw it when Nick at Nite ran reruns a few years ago, and I fell in love with it. It's too bad no other networks have picked it up and continued its run, especially since it did so well in syndication.
If only everyone had a chance to see this show-- it has kept me laughing for years!! --Tara
Two of a Kind (1998)
Worth it for Christopher Sieber and Sally Wheeler
As a 19 year old who loves "kids'" TV, I can honestly say that I really enjoy this show. I disagree with the people who have said that Mary-Kate and Ashley are bad actresses... I think they're very cute and obviously have great experience working together. The writing for this show is very good; it's funny and often witty.
Even if you're not a fan of the Olsen twins, this show is ALL WORTH IT for the interaction between Christopher Sieber (the dad) and Salley Wheeler (the babysitter). They are hilarious together, and come on, they're both so darn cute!! The romantic tension between them really makes the show and keeps people like me watching. It's a shame the show was cancelled-- with their potential romantic relationship, this show could really have been something, with or without the Olsens.
I recommend giving it a try, whether you're an adult, a kid, or somewhere in between. It's worth it!
