The Endgame Study (2007)
This movie is a *10* not a *1*
I voted *9* for this movie, and as of today there were 16 other people who voted 8 or higher. There is a single person who voted *1* and the score is 2.7? How can that be? It is a good thing the mathematicians counting these votes are not working for the space program!
The only reason someone would vote a *1* on a very good short film like this is because they are either insanely jealous of someone on the "Endgame Study" crew, or they are clinically insane. This film has an excellent look, the editing is crisp and clean, the direction is assured and solid, the writing is unique and fresh and the music is to die for.
Stories like these are what the world needs more of and filmmakers doing this kind of work are to be applauded not attacked. I've read this is being considered as a TV series and I hope it becomes one because I loved what these filmmakers did with only six quick minutes.
Escape from New York (1981)
As good today as it was when it came out
I am pushing 50 years old and this movie holds today as well as it did back in 1981. The story of people being oppressed by a police state and martial law is as old as time but Carpenter took it to a new place with great images and a haunting score.
There is one thing everyone talks about and that is the cassette tape. I agree that some explanation about it being so important would have been a great idea but I overlooked it because the rest of the film was so well done.
Another thing that is interesting about the movie even though no one could have known back then is the use of the World Trade Center. It gives me chills to watch that part now as if I am watching something unfold in a parallel universe.
