The Galloping Major (1951)
Give and take
A fond recall of life in the 40's for a culture about to be altered from strong community and fellowship to selfish, materialistic, plastic and shallow strangers of today.
The film is a fantasy about the past when dreams could come true set in a characterful neighbourhood rich in persons, buildings, transport, courtesies and endeavour.
A pleasant experience to flow along with the story through a memory provoking past .... put the kettle on and enjoy with a slab of coconut cake from Woolworths.
I Am... Gabriel (2012)
DOWN TO EARTH BUT ABOVE
What a gem. A story expressing hopes and deeds of a community presented without the glitz. Ordinary people playing ordinary people is authentic and better than plastic acting speaking their lines. The production side was clever with various shots from angles and the usage of silhouette at apt moments was also a laid back message not about who but what.
The message of awaking us humans asks us all the question in this world which is heaven, a miracle within itself, why is it that when somebody does something really helpful for another person or group, that so many ask 'Why do that?"
The film examines various aspects of habit, conditioning and little awareness of the miracle that collectively we all are on Earth...... but alas taken for granted.
Lad: A Yorkshire Story (2013)
A BREATH OF FRESH HILLSIDE AIR
Fantastic. The characters, the plot, the acting and the folk acting make this as anatural story so down to earth as one expects from ooop north. A reminder that we humans should be humane and genuine not superficial fakes. So touching and the larks reminds us of our youthful larks carried out in the name of justice and a cause. A great film and a hard act to follow.......
