The Letter for the King (2020)
good start then it gets lost
I did not expect too much when I started to watch it on Netflix. But then I was honestly surprised at the quality and story line during the first two episodes (out of 6). Cinematography, music, acting .... all was fine. I was happy to have given it a try. Story was quite interesting actually ... I never the book by the way.
Then .... episodes 3 and 4 came along (in the mountains) and I started to get a bit bored ... plot holes ... and something definitely wrong.
Came the last 2 episodes... looked a bit better at the beginning but then it totally got lost. It is still unclear who was the father of the boy and the mother of a girl .... shaman, which one? if not the boy then why did his Mom say that he is special? I mean ... at the end .... huge plot hole and a hurried end ...
Disappointed .... expected much more from the promising beginning ...
I even thought that it could be a movie for my young kids but no .... the "love story" between the two boy knights killed it.
Anyway .... enjoyable but not re-watchable and definitely .... a miss. Could have been so much more ...
Unlocked (2017)
nice - could have been better
Very good start with fine actors. Story reflects today's fight with different types of terrorism. Unfortunately, it was predictable. I had guessed the main culprit from almost the beginning and the story did unfold as per expectations. Some of the story line seemed too easy - with Noomi Rapace character being too much on top of things in some scenes, especially in the end scenes. Orlando Bloom was very good in his role. Noomi Rapace was also quite good.
Good watch on a rainy day - I would not buy it or re-watch it.
The Water Diviner (2014)
Great movie
One of the best movies of the year.
Very nice cinematography - quite impressive. Nice story line and dialogues. Great first movie from Russel Crowe as a Director - just WAOW.
All Actors are great - Olga Kurylenko impressed me very much. Russel Crowe is extremely good as always and the Actors playing British officers were great. Turkish Actors were well selected and acted very well. Loved both the Major and the Sergeant.
The story about the 3 lost brothers really touched me. The battle scenes in Gallipoli took my breath away .... and a few tears as well.
I advise it to people who love epic movies, beautiful stories and cinematography. Looking forward to Russel Crowe's next movie !!
Inside Out (2015)
interesting but not for kids
I watched it with my 5 year old daughter. She ended the movie almost crying. I would not recommend it for kids.
I liked the originality of the story - emotions. How they manage one another - also different emotions for men and women. Very different from latest ones.
It is just more for Adults / Teens.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Great Movie
I did not have high expectations when I watched this movie and I was very happily surprised. The story is interesting - special effects are nice and dialogues are entertaining. I liked the actors, specifically Jude Law. Music matches very well the mood of the movie.
Very good that they did not add a "love interest" in the movie. There was just a "Mage" as a "leading lady" and she was quite well chosen.
It is a new view of King Arthur as a myth/legend.
I would watch it again and definitely purchase it without a doubt. One of the best movies of the year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
The Promise (2016)
incomplete movie
I watched this movie recently with high expectations as I heard that it was top notch. I was disappointed - while its beginning is quite engaging and the story is of interest, it seems to me that the Script was focused too much on attempting to demonstrate the Armenian Genocide rather than tell the story of the people involved. All possible "evil" behaviors were shown such as work camps, railway wagon full of refugees, people beaten/killed in the streets ... It seemed far fetched to me. It seems like only Armenians were "on the road" at that time as the heroes only met "poor" Armenians and "bad" Turks. While Ottomans were a mix of Turks, Kurds and Arabs - focus is again on Turks only. Historically speaking, it is known that most murders were done by Irregular Troops. Having said that, one might say that this is not a documentary so inaccuracies may occur - but then this approach has made the film too much one sided. Not to mention the American behavior (journalist + ambassador) which is the usual "we Americans do not accept this ..." ... this came out as funny and removed credibility. I liked the male lead as he played well his role. He was one of the few strong points of the movie. One low point is for the ridiculous behavior of the leading Lady - imagine back in 1914, a lady sleeps with an American who is a drunk and goes around in bars with him, and is still deemed as honest and worthy to wed the main hero .... sorry, it does not make sense. Maybe for 2014 but not for 1914. So all in all - nice beginning, beautiful cinematography but then it tumbles as it wants to say too much and gets lost on the way. A weak version of Doctor Zhivago. Unfortunate ... Watch it once but do not buy it.
Flashforward (2009)
Good but not enough
The idea was great. The way the story is built is clearly sound and well thought. I really enjoyed it from this aspect. I was sorry to hear that there would not be a 2nd season. But the I understand also why ...
Joseph Fiennes was disappointing as he was not able to carry this one through. I loved him in other movies but in this one, he felt out of place. The actress playing is wife was really uninteresting. Basically, I could not find a connection to any leading actor. I guess that was why it did not work.
The music was fine, except for once when there was some music being played during a shoot-out with some Chinese ... I mean ... Oh my God, one should think again before adding this score in such a scene.
I advise people to watch it as it is good. And it could have been a VERY good one, simply with better actors in leading roles.
3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)
Very good movie
I really enjoyed watching this movie.
Since Waterworld, Kevin Costner movies are usually underrated. I find it appalling as most of them are quite interesting (Mr Brooks, Open Range...). This movie is a good example.
It is full of humor, well driven action and good acting. I specially enjoy Costner's interpretation as it is both vicious and likable. Despite all his flaws, he seems to be appreciated by his mates. The scene how Costner and Russel are both thrown in jail is very well done. Good scenario !!
The story is excellently brought together and the "Elvis edge" for the robbery and for the "family relation" is very well thought.
I advise this movie to those who like action movies.
