Aspen Extreme (1993)

Aspen is my favorite Ski Town

The movie has problems, and not really like "REAL" Aspen is. I have been to Aspen 25 times. 1st time there was in summer(before the Gondola was installed early 80's) and ended up being Jack Nicholson's Doubles partner for Tennis on red mountain. After that since early 80's I have made many 2 to 5 day trips to ski. along with the other resorts along the way from Denver) Got to ski with "Jack" again with Angelica Huston and Esme Marshal (A friends cover girl model girlfriend). I had some good times; (Met a lot of locals etc. I still don't recognize the OOB skiing they did, but then again I only ski on piste. Watched 24 hours of Aspen couple times live. It's a great town sort of a fairy tale place. Even thought the 2 lead characters acted like assholes and would not get anywhere in real Aspen the way they behaved, it was fun to watch. I have not skied there in 5 years and want to go back. Just seeing the Maroon Bells and all made me feel great. "Next year in Aspen"...............

Thailand fun but not true

The movie was OK, although how you could believe Alan would not be a problem again is beyond me, you just knew the Marsh mellows were spiked as soon as they were shown. I have been to Thailand 8 times. It is very vague on where the wedding is. I immediately recognized the Islands off the coast and the mountain drive from the airport as Krabi. (which is where it was shot; How they end up in Bangkok which is a 2 hour plane ride away is beyond me. There is no beach resort within driving distance except Pattaya. Which is not the kind of place for a wedding. LOL if you know it. It is impossible to take a speed boat from the Chao Po River to Krabi in less than 10+ hours. (not to mention you would run out of gas) You would have to go all the way down the Gulf of Thailand and around to the Adaman sea on the Pacific side (Where the Tsunami hit). The Building that the Helicopter comes up at the end I could swear is a project never finished and they must have fixed up the top for the shoot?; None of the logistics in Bangkok make any sense ........ Also I have never seen a Song tao ( p/u truck taxi ) or a Tuk Tuk that says Taxi on the top. There are great AC taxis in Bangkok and they are way nicer the Tuk Tuk (which the 3+ of them could have never really fit into). So anyway it was fun trying to look for places I have been or seen.

To doubt love can make life so different

When Agnes played by Sandra Bullock finally gives in to meet young Hemmingway before he is sent home at a run down brothel, Hemmingway says "I wanted this to be the most beautiful place on earth" She says, 'Just close your eyes". This is such an important thing that people overlook. When you have a love like that, you can be happy & in heaven in a run down room, and be in hell or just not happy in a Venitian mansion (the good Dr's house) or some other place that you think money will make you happy.

The story gave me a good insight to Hemmingway. I once saw a play that took place at the end of his life drinking and miserable & maybe still trying to forget and wishing, when she returned to him, his pride had not stood in the way of their love.

Sure the movie had some flaws but well worth watching.

Volcano (1997)

At least I suffered through this alone on a cable viewing

The script writing was sophmoric and the things the characters did and the way they acted made no sense. Tommy Lee must have been desperate for cash, although this was before some of his better known work. Anne Heche is ok. Tommy Lee's daughter who is supposed to need a baby sitter at age 13 (ridiculous) looks like she is 16 and then goes on to be a baby sitter later in the film.
