Contains laughs but falls far short of its predecessor and the series
9 August 2014
The Inbetweeners in the past has never been a source of the most intelligent humour and would tend to rely mainly on crude jokes to create its own version of comedy. The formula worked well for the TV show and the first movie to hilarious effect. So naturally the writers and directors would try to follow the same direction as they have done previously, but this time they have gone over the top and it damages the movie. Sure in the past things have gotten fairly crude, but they would always be linked in with a situation or event which would generate huge amount of laughter. However, in this second big screen outing for the boys it feels like the crude scenes are simply added for the sake of it and lack the real comedic and situational backing they need to generate laughs.

This second movie instalment also suffers from dragging out jokes. On numerous occasions a joke is made and is simply dragged out with the apparent thought that it somehow makes the scene that funnier. In reality it gets boring and the viewer is left wondering how much longer the scene is going to last or hoping something else is going to happen, but it doesn't. The movie also lacks structure in its story and joke consistency and after starting out poorly the viewer is left hoping that the movie will progress and get funnier. However, this is a feeling that keeps continuing until film starts derailing and completely falls apart at the end.

The supporting cast is also poorly constructed and the characters are either heavily clichéd or are just highly unfunny. Many of the supporting cast from the series also return, but they seem to have been forced into the movie simply for the sake of it.

The only redeeming feature of the movie is the high joke count and although most wont raise too much more than a giggle, there are a handful of genuinely funny scenes that keep the film's head above water. In the end for the viewer the film will likely be a huge disappointment, even for big fans(like myself) of the previous Inbetweeners work, this movie feels like a cash grab while the popularity of the series is still high.

Wanted to like it but was just unable to.

Before watching this movie I wanted to like it. Being a fan of many of the actors in this movie I thought it had the potential to be unknown yet good movie, unfortunately that is not the case.

The premise was interesting a murder takes place in the room opposite from a woman with Agoraphobia and hasn't left her apartment in 11 years and from then on the direction of the film follows around this character. From then on the movie starts to fall apart, some of the acting verges on being poor, many of the films concepts become implausible and the films conclusion is just embarrassing.

However, the film isn't a complete loss, the story is enough to keep the movie at least quite interesting and is filled with many twists some of which lead to the films finest moments. Also, Kevin Pollak and Giovanni Ribisi put in performances that are at least rather good which is a shame due to their limited screen time.

In the end the film is so concerned in throwing as many twists as possible into it that it forgets in how to carry a story and in the end is left in a mess. In my opinion the movie is watchable yet but not good and I would be shocked if anybody were to find this movie anything higher than good. If presented with the opportunity of watching other movies viewers should look into taking a chance elsewhere.
