War of the Worlds (2005)

Mr. Spielberg, I'm disappointed...

I went to see this movie yesterday, despite all critics I've seen on the net said this had been a bad one. I've asked myself, could it be so bad? The name Spielberg was a trademark for me. His films not always meant to have Oscar, but one could bet that the film will be enjoyable. This film has streams which I think can not be mixed in one mature plot. We have a story of a family drama (Ray versus his kids, many film has the same "don't care" divorced father against the children story), also one with a nature like disaster (maybe like Dante's peak?). Then we have the intruders from the Mars (a bit Matrix like tripod machines, with Alien like crew). We had also some scenes with Tim Robbins, who had the only interesting character, he was disturbed a little by the invasion (I think, I've also seen something like that before... :) I have to say, at the middle of the film, I waited Yoda to enter with his laser sword... It is not just the plots. Despite them, this film could be average, but for me, it was boring! Maybe I saw too many movies before (hmmm... :). I hardly could guess every next moment in the film. About the Tom Cruise. He had his average shape. But in this movie, It was useless. Till now, Spielberg film did not disappointed me. It always had good actors, good story, nice pics. But for now, I'm disappointed

What I liked in Hitchcock's films that I knew what I was going to see. I knew that it is a horror and that's what I expected. What I hated in the middle ages' painters dark paintings is that I saw obnoxious unrealistic creatures meant to be "human". Gibson's film merge this two things, just I didn't know that it's going to be a horror but it was disgusting...

The movie is very naturalistic, but this is not a positive thing. Think about seeing "ER" where they would show when a doctor halves someone's liver from a meter.

I don't want to go into further. Decide to see it or not, but I suggest as a movie lover, that rather read the bible!

As it was also in other comments on this film, I'm also shouldn't tell anything about the story or the end. If you're interested in history and human culture, you HAVE TO see this film. You can learn much about yourself and human nature.
