Barba carried this episode by himself.
28 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was very disappointing. It's very clear that the showrunners have a specific image of conservatives and they painted it in. I don't understand the point of this episode beyond dunking on right-wingers.

Olivia, who is normally a hardcore advocate for sexual assault victims, is clearly letting her dislike for Cobb's political views cloud her judgement. Sure, in the end she comes out and advocates for her, but too little too late. I actually laughed when she told Barba 'She deserves her day in court!' Since when? You didn't even seem to believe her until five minutes ago!

I had to laugh at their portrayal of conservatives. I know that Platt was supposed to be a white supremacist and Cobb was a bit of an extremist herself, but come on, they were painted as villains to the point of parody. I laughed when Platt recited Hitler's 14 words because that is such a ridiculously pointless thing to include. And when he called Martha Cobb 'white Christian stock' I about died.

Barba carried this episode. Everyone else was clearly biased against Platt, to the extent of using whatever they could to prove his guilt ('she turned him down at a bar so he must have raped her in revenge!'). Barba wasn't so sure and even though he clearly didn't agree with the politics of Platt and Cobb, he did his job the best he could and didn't treat Cobb any differently than any other victim. He is why I gave this episode 3 stars and not 1.

I also appreciated that Fin just didn't care. He didn't want to play politics and I respect that.

Ridiculous and Sad
16 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I think that the writers just wanted to capitalize on the Gamergate controversy. It's not nearly as sensational as this show makes it out to be, and it's kinda insulting, what they did with it. I had to research the topic a bit to see what the hoopla was about, and while the episode was pretty on key in the basic premise, the rest was insanely off-point. None of the threats were anywhere close to being carried out, yet the episode contained an abduction and a shootout for some reason. Of course, I guess you can't have a primetime show based on true stories without some embellishment (Scorpion, I'm looking at you). This episode was ridiculous. My brother, who is an avid gamer, couldn't even sit through the first 15 minutes. It's sad that they were so eager to get a slice of the Gamergate pie that they didn't take more time with it to make sure it was okay.

Why all the hate?
20 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was a little wary of this show, as I saw several reviews before watching it by people that disliked it. But, I gave it a chance and I think it's great.

Most of the issue is how unrealistic it is. I will agree on that. But, I find it all very fascinating. For example, the seventh episode is about Scorpion trying to find some escaped convicts. They find out that a drone, piloted by someone outside of the prison, flew over and dropped a cell phone to one of the escapees. Later, they hack into the convicts' computer webcam to see what was going on. One of them (who was being held hostage) noticed the camera light and started doing Morse Code on his eyebrow that revealed their location. Yes, the whole situation was unrealistic (especially the cell phone part). But that's what makes it cool. It shows that the writers are creative. I mean, if you look at it from an objective standpoint, it really is a creative idea. Plus, most peoples' lives would need to be embellished if they want to be successful on primetime TV.

Overall, I think it's a really good show. Just remember that it's 'inspired by', not 'based on' the life of Walter O'Brien.

Minutemen (2008 TV Movie)

Well Written
31 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was really good. Very well written, great acting, great actors, and it was funny, but the writers didn't go out of their way to make jokes, such as in shows as Cory in the House where the characters are clueless and it's supposed to be funny, and the ending, with the teleportation comment, hinted at a sequel. This movie would be excellent as a TV show.

What I really enjoyed about this was the plot. It was well laid out, and, while the movie had it's funny moments, it wasn't to the point that it was cheesy. And the time travel was a very unique approach for Disney, with a bunch of kids being the time travelers. The actors were a good pick, with Jason Dolley, Cory's ditzy friend from Cory in the House, Luke Benward, from How to Eat Fried Worms, Nicholas Braun, from Disney movie Sky High, as the leads, and Chelsea Staub, being a Disney newcomer, does really well in her part. It also had a great soundtrack. with songs from singers such as Corbin Bleu and Aly & AJ. All in all, a very good movie, and I'd strongly recommend it.
