OMG... What a series....
15 May 2020
Cant believe such a gem existed and I didn't know about it. One of the best things to watch. The story has punch, humor, heartbreaks, emothions. Everything that you can damn think of.

And plays that delicate balance between I and P.

Despite not know one word of Hebrew or Arabic, just loved it. Hats off to the makers and actors....

The Irishman (2019)

Great Movie If Made in 1990
1 December 2019
The Irishman is old stuff, told in the same old way, with the same old actors. I expected something else. Not this. It is slow. Now slow burns are a thing. But it should break new ground. Remember Eastern Promise. This didn't. It's so long. Wonder how peeps will sit through it in cinema halls with no pee break. Frankly, the movie reads like a page from Wikipedia. Straight-laced with no sense of humor. And if you may, it looks like The Sopranos but without the understated humor, raw power and great acting. And what was Anna Paquin doing in the movie. She could have continued her invisible existence elsewhere. Finally, if you give this movie a miss, no probs.

Whats happenning!!!
1 November 2019
I was having high hopes but it turned out to be a dud. It seem good writers have taken onto themselves to write bad.

Not worth your while.

Want more of this.....
11 June 2019
Sad the series had to go. The mad-hatter Kevin had more to give. I liked both seasons. Leah and Kevin form a great comic pair. Sad the first wife had to die. And the funniest was that English fellow.

Chef - Big Thing In A Tiny Package
1 December 2018
Five Things That Make Chef (Eng) an Awesome Movie 1. The music: Though the movie is not a musical, it has a wonderful set of numbers. Right from the word go. Till the very end. They have an earthy Cuban and Mexican beat to it. Utterly enjoyable.

2. The story : It has none of the trappings from the 'how to make a hit film' manual. Fresh. Straight. 3. The actors: Forget the big names. Watch them for what they are doing. Each one feels real. Long time no see this.

4. The food: Ok. I am a foodie. And food is built into the plot. The food here looks good. And I am sure it tastes good too. Not one dish have I ever tasted or even seen.

5. The climax: A good climax maketh the movie. And sometimes a climax can be the downfall of a movie. Directors feel they have to make a statement in the end. bla bla. This movie ends. And I wanted more. That's how I can tell its the perfect ending. Remember to see right till the very end. I mean after the credits. It has a cute gem hidden.

One of the BEST TV Series Ever !!!!!!!
1 November 2018
What a terrific show. From the pilot to the end. Every episode of every season is a gem. A great job done by the writers and Ray.

And it had the best ever finale. The simplicity of the episode astounds me. No dramatic. Just great story telling and acting. One of the episodes where emotion are prominent.

It was sad to see this show go....

The Biggest Hit of its Time.
29 October 2018
Way back, when I was a mere school kid, seven-eight member of my family went to see this movie at Ramakrishna 70mm Hyderabad. 'Houseful showed the sign. My grandma used all her resources to manage just two tickets. So the oldest member, grandma, and the youngest member, me, saw the movie.

And what a movie it proved to be.

Hero sitting in the middle of a river in an easy chair, fishing. He taming the shrew. The shrew, going by the name Vijeta Pundit, now wants a house in a garden by the lake. And the back-story.

Wait a minute. Add naughty Aruna Irani. Add in-great-form RD Burman. Bring in Amit Kumar - son of the late Kishore Kumar - as the fresh voice of the biggest debuting star ever, Kumar Gaurav. What we get is a blockbuster.

But hold your breath. There is a very big surprise coming. Amjad Khan. As never before.

You can't even blink start to finish.

But the titles didn't mention the directors' name. The movie didn't make itself. More backstory.

Mani Ratnam's Gift To Nagarjuna
10 October 2018
If you have to see one movie in your life, this should be it.

It has comedy, love, horror, emotion - everything.

It begins with the hero winking at his senior citizen vice-chancellor. Then he asks his doctor to marry him, who very sweetly says she will ask her husband and answer.

But impending death. He can't manage and goes alone too Ooty. Here he meets this girl. Wait a minute. why have we never seen this girl again.

God ! what a girl. More a devil in disguise.

Then some very beautifully done songs later. The end.

There is a comedy track that was added later as the movie was a bit on the heavy side. It has nothing to do wit the main story.

The movie was made direct in Teluge. A first for Mani.

The Bggest Hit of the Doctor
10 October 2018
The film is filled with talent.

One the CM. A never-before-seen M.S. Reddy. Then you have Babu Mohan. Come in small bits but is effective to the core. And then the main villain, Ramireddy, with his trademark dialogue 'Spot petestanu'.

Dr. Rajshekar was effective as a sincere and honest police officer with a powerful voice. His dragging a half naked Ramireddy all over Hyderabad was a highlight of the movie.

Worth a watch.

Snake in a Woman's Shadow !!!!
10 October 2018
Firstly, this movie can't be made today. Coz PETA won't allow it. The poor animals' must have been tortured horribly. There is a fight with a lion and within minutes we have a fight with a tiger. Now I want to know which Indian forest has both these animal. The movie also promotes many myths like the snake drinking milk. The poor strict non-veg animal won't know how to begin drinking milk.

Then this group of guys from the city disturb a snake who then takes a human form and eliminate them one by one.

No. It's not a copy of Nagin. It borrowed the theme and added tonnes of emotions and religious overdose. The idea is do what you want but pray and all will be forgiven.

This climax is as ridiculous as any. The hero is bitten by a snake and then the wife comes and prays to all the gods. The vengeful snake returns to sucks out the poison and our hero lives.

This movie has a hit number of its day, Amma oka bomma

But watch the movie coz its full time pass.

The best of PC !!!!
10 October 2018
Priyanka Chopra has never been better. A negative role in this movie. She did it so well that she never acted in a negative role (till 2018).

Plus the movie had lovely music.

Watchable....

This is a christian themes movie. Nothing to write home about except for an over-the-top devil played with aplomb by Nutan Prasad.

Vijaychander is the Best Jesus Christ on Screen !!!
10 October 2018
I have seen so many versions of the Christ story. Mostly Hollywood stuff. But the best version will always be this. This movies is meant for people of all religions. This is, perhaps, the most important movie made in India.

Vijaychander played Jesus so well that he couldn't be cast as anything else again. A phenomenon known as the Jesus curse.

But get a copy and see this movie.

The Best of the Best !!!!
9 October 2018
There never will be enough space to write about this movie. The writer/director had done well to create a perfect movie.

Star-crossed lovers is not a new concept. We have Heer Ranjha, Laila M, Romeo J and a dozen other. But what makes this stand out is the novel concept and its treatment.

The Telugu ear had never heard such music before. And lapped it up. Plus two heroines. One, the out-going and bubbly Sarita and he other Madhavi, a brooding dancer.

And dont forget Kamalhassan.

Set in the picturesque locale of vizag, this bw movie is not to be missed.

Arjun Returns !!!
9 October 2018
An Arjun vehicle made by Kodii. Arjun returns to Telugu after being nudged out of the Kannada film industry.

And returns in style he does. This is a kick ass movie where he sang and danced.

And then, for the girl he loves, he bashed up the villains.

A big hit of its time. Arjun went on to become a bigger star in Tamil.

A Kodi Hit !!
9 October 2018
The hero (Balakrishna) vanishes for a few years and returns with a wife. To the utmost surprise of his mother and village gf.

How the tale resolves itself is what the movie is about. A big hit for dhoti-clad Balakrishna.

The highlight of the movie is the mother- Bhanumati and the song 'Danchve Menatta'.

God ! What acting !!!
9 October 2018
This movie has now been released in every Indian language conceivable. I had to decide which language to see it in. I chose Malayalam. My first Mohanlal movie. My first full Malayalam movie. And what do i get. A mind-boggling movie. Meena, the two girls, the policemen, the shopkeeper all contributed. But the cake goes to Mohanlal who breezed his way thru. Effortlessly. Even surprising how cool he is in tense situations.

It teaches you one very important lesson- family comes first. Not FB. Not Twitter.

Absolutely loved the movie. Even surprising considering I dont know a word of Malayalam.

Top Class Entertainer - Thanks to Chiranjeevi and Ilayaraja !!!
9 October 2018
This is what a blockbuster looks like. Non stop mazaa. With three three heroines. Everyone was top of their game here. The writer, director, actors, music composer.

If you have missed this movie. Watch it now.

However, Jayamala's name is conveniently missing from the credits. She had the best song in the movie Nee Meeda Naku. She is currently (2018) a minister in the Karnataka Cabinet.

This is a 'mast entertainer even if we discount Radha's unusual hair styling and Chiru's white pants.

It Came as a Breath of Fresh Air !!!
9 October 2018
And then we come to know that its a copy of Malayalam movie. But that doesn't take away anything. It still is a perfect entertainer. Emotion, action, song and dance.

Who wont like a hero who picks up a deaf dumb mute kid off the street and treat him well. Then we find that some one is after the kid. And our hero has to save the kid.

Then you have Vijayshanti who wants to sing songs and dance with you. In Kashmir. No less.

End of the day. A timepass movie for all ages.

A Big Hit for Chiranjeevi !!!!
8 October 2018
A brother and sister duo see three villains destroy their family. The sister becomes a police officer and tries bringing them to justice. When that fails, the brother - played by Chiranjeevi - hands out the eye-for-an-eye justice. He becomes a case for his sister and he has to avoid her too.

All this plus his love life and songs and dance make this a movie you shouldnt miss. So well loved it was that it was made into Hindi as 'Andha Kanoon

Chiru's First Big Hit !!!
8 October 2018
Story of a snake-man who seduce women and they die. Chiranjeevi was the villain. But surprisingly was the central figure. Rati Agnihotri was the heroine lured into his web but saved by the hero - whose name I just cant remember.

A Movie No One Can Afford to Miss. No One !!
8 October 2018
So you have a young NTR and Savitri. You have the absolutely talented Ramana Reddy. You have a delightful Relangi. And the surprise package, ANR. He was perfect as a detective who can't sing (you must hear that song).

The main theme is love and feminine jealousy. Padded with enough humor, religion, song and dance. Jamana is the kiddish girl and a good dancer.

All leading to a climax that balances everything out.

Watch the movie for Savitri.

You are the Father of my Baby !!!!
8 October 2018
This was a #metoo in the good old days. Mixed with Telugu film style emoting and song and dance and, ya, a court case.

How and where the case ended is what makes up the movie.

And, of course, and climax that you just didn't expect.

Worth a Viewing !!
8 October 2018
This movie is special for many reasons. Firstly, it showed us that the TV needn't be an idiot box. Second, It had a terrific performance by Kumar Gaurav. And Finally, it had the prettiest bubbliest heroine.

And, don't forget, the badshah of washing-dirty-linen-in-public Mahesh Bhatt's top class direction.
