Lunatics (2019)
this requires patience for the pay off
Chris has truly outdone himself with this series. honestly, i wanted to quit on this after 10 minutes into episode 1 but i gave it another try and am glad for it. these characters are painstakingly well crafted and measure up to his previous incarnations and he's given enough time to fully flesh them out. by episode 6 you'll be positively squealing as you cringe while watching through your fingers covering your face. you can't look away
Chimera Strain (2018)
heavy handed crapfest
Avoid this anti-science propaganda masquerading as hard sci-fi, if you're looking for a decent film. However, this is good for a laugh. A nervous, exasperated chuckle.
The ratings/review system has been corrupt for a long time and on full display in the ones for this film.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Eerie, foreboding and relevant
Anybody who read up on the details about this series plot points shouldn't be surprised at the differences between The Walking Dead and this promising prequel. It's a different setting, cast dynamic and is a family drama with horror elements. The characters seem more fleshed out to me as opposed to The Walking Dead characters who were already written for the graphic novel, whereas the new cast is a fresh take on the zombie timeline with ripe dramatic fruit ready to be harvested and fleshed out on screen. These new characters are quite compelling and it shows the writers and production teams went to great creative lengths to offer a provocative and engrossing take on the pre-dystopian narrative with the faithful audience given the 1-up of knowing more than the shows characters. Another thing i found disturbingly effective about the 'Walkers' were the freshness of their flesh made the gore all the more cringe worthy. They still look like the people they love and cast are written with a sense of hope that all will be well. Having this knowledge of that 'not being the case' will keep us with this overwhelming sense of impending doom as we watch them in their futile exercises and inevitable faux paus. This is gonna be great
Humans (2015)
Leave well enough alone
This is a weak adaption of a superb Swedish series. The pilot is terrible. Bland and lifeless performances coupled with poor production values make this failed attempt to cash in on an uninspired rip-off barely suitable for the SyFy channel and comes off as borderline Canadian. This reeks of filler summer series and sends me limping back Under The Dome to watch Extant.
For a good time, watch Äkta Människor. The original series, which is unavailable in the US and sadly on got 2 seasons, can be found in streaming form with crappy subtitles/translation, but these factors do not deter from the shows beauty and downright creepiness. The adaption lacks the lush cinematic qualities and overt sense of foreboding that permeated each frame of Äkta Människor.
Having been a member of this site for more than 10 years and never feeling compelled to write a review, I felt it was time, in this case, as I'm unable to take pleasure in others enjoyment of this miscarriage. This is in no way, shape or form "better than the original" as I've seen stated in some reviews.
