Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Seriously
This was... terrible. You can't have a film w/ so much comical relief that carries serious emotional motives & a villain that is a God killer. The elements for this film fell flat connecting any of it & it gets dumb quick. The chemistry between Jane & Thor is forced, they don't have a connection at all to even make it believable they do still even have feelings for each other. This film should have been dark, aggressive & emotional. Instead is overloaded w/ comedy expressed by every single character even by the extras, the tone is childish & the violence feels like there is absolutely no threat. This was tough to watch the longer it dragged on.
Tenet (2020)
Needs Repeat Viewing to Enjoy, but there's a downside.
Nolan has quite the brain creating science fiction, but this complex idea is one of the few that translated to have a fair understanding. Very interesting perspective preventing nuclear holocaust with the introduction of time travel as the core to its story. Visually its memorable, but needs repeat viewing to have understanding of rules why the story plays out the way it does. The unfortunate part of this film, John Washington isn't convincing as the lead. His persona is forced, lacks charisma & becomes less believable of a character that is capable as such for the story. Patterson is surprisingly good. This film is extremely complex in story, needs time to put together.
The Batman (2022)
Impressive, DC gives another vision & version of Batman
This film has a combination of aspects that are very safe, but also smart to do.
The atmosphere of Gotham is a character in its self. It seems it is adapted from the highly successful Batman Arkham video game series which is a smart direction of how this major project aesthetically should look & feel. It was successful for the video game series, why not bring it to the screen? So Gotham actually feels like Gotham in this film.
This Batman version of this series finally drives itself from the detective comics & he is finally on film working along w/ GPD as a whole.
The film is very captivating. The writing is well done inviting the audience to follow Batman to figure out the Riddler's next move, involves you to think. It is why this film is extremely successful across many generations of movie goers which makes the run time not a factor. Films lack this aspect in writing/story today.
The acting overall is great. One disappointment is Andy Serkis cast as Alfred. My opinion is Andy is far more menacing as a villain & his persona amplifies that character type. Andy deserves alot of screen time & he lacked because of his characters roll.
Catwoman was played well, but has a social justice/activist motivation, at times in the film her statements feel unwarranted in the film. But Zoe was sexy & personable unlike Dark Knight Rises dead pan Anne Hathaway.
Penguin is always going to be a shocker when you keep thinking that's Colin under there, cool depiction.
Riddler is questionable, I think I'm not buying into him the same as I didn't buy into Jesse Eisenburg as Lex Luther of Justice League. The actor doesn't fit the role to make you feel threatened.
Commissioner Gordon the same. Jeffrey Write seems like he's playing the exact same CIA character Felix in Daniel Craig's James Bond Series. Although, he is enjoyable throughout the film. So it's a like/dislike thing, not love/hate. If you didn't see the recent Bond films, you're all good.
Batman... Well, not sure of this version. Patterson fits, but then he doesn't. I would say he is a combination of all the Batman's in a gumbo pot. But, what's new is the depressing portrayal of Bruce Wayne & suicidal actions of fighting any villain while Batman are over barring. Lacks a major characteristic of Batman & that's being an actual boogeyman of Gotham. There is no element of surprise to his tactics engaging any criminal or thug.
Also... (BEGIN KINDA SPOILER) The amount of gun shots from pistols, rifles & automatic weapons Batman absorbs is off the charts, which gives the impression he's a superhero, a god. Huge negative if his life doesn't feel like its in danger when you're in the 3rd act of the film. (END KINDA SPOILER)
The Batman, very pleased it has direction for the future. So many aspects were thrown at you & they all land. No mystery. The city of Gotham, the acting, story, the amount of characters involved really were played well to make this an enjoyable fun Batman film. Very relived that DC took it serious & their time to develop this film unlike Justice League.
Dark (2017)
Mind Blown
It is possibly the utmost insane depiction of time & it keeps you hooked, the series grows & builds w/ each episode that adds to such a bizzare puzzle. Story is very complex, following the characters plays a major roll & it all wraps up very well in the end. Regardless of its premise on time, as a whole, the entire story does actually have an ending w/ closure. This was very well thought out & is honestly underrated.
Game of Thrones (2011)
I sit in disbelief. Final season wrecked it all.
By far the laziest & worst ideas shape a terrible final season. I held out, didn't watch entire series of GOT until after the final season & streamed on HBOmax. I have no clue how these writers could get any more big projects w/ the given lack of effort & creativity to finish off the series. Not to mention the Night King. What a joke. The characters lose their character in season 7 & you dont even recognize them in series season finale. You will notice & it begins to bother you. Such a good solid 5 straight seasons, in hindsight this wagon was racing down hill & the wheels came flying off down the stretch.
ZeroZeroZero (2019)
Underrated
This was a shocker. I was so drawn into the dynamic of how the 3 elements in drug trafficking between Dealer, Mule & Buyer was on such a global scale. Every episode carried a well done feeling of friction. An intriguing direction of the episodes is witness an aftermath of an event & then later see how the characters came to that point of the aftermath. It is familiar practice of past films, but this series pulls it off really well. The violence, repercussions & the business of organized crime families are paced evenly that it holds your attention.
The Green Knight (2021)
Something Good For A Change
A vision of folklore story telling that was dipicted mostly using the camera. The cinematography is incredible, reminded me of The Revenant, the landscape & camera shots pull you in. This film isn't about action. It's a very drawn out & slow paced story of a journey. What is nice for a change? Mainstream films revolve with too much dialogue to progress stories where as The Green Night visually has you piece together the scenes & the symbolism that progresses Sir Gawain's character. Great cast, great acting. Very well done medieval fantasy.
Uncle Tom (2020)
An Eye Opener
Really enjoyed this. Very upfront honesty of how the Democrats have flipped the script on the Republicans political history to frame them as the evil w/ in this country.
Busanhaeng (2016)
A new spin encountering Zombies
Between The Walking Dead & every Zombie film under the sun, Train to Busan isn't overtly cliché. It does start slow, but for good reason. The suttle build up was a great idea because of the tense & life threatening moments are at every turn for most of the film. Besides the outside world, being safe or trapped on this train made made it a new situation facing a zombie outbreak that was done very well. It's fun to watch.
Underwater (2020)
There's a reason this film had no buzz.
Its one & done, then quickly forgotten. Kristen Stewart is a flat line throughout this entire film even in the action scenes. The kids were bored. But, production quality was great. This films production looked very expensive to create & might have lost out its ______ in box office.
