4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
Although better than the 1st.. still fails
Fantastic Four was a fantastic disaster. I will admit, it was quite entertaining with all the special effects, but it still lacks acting abilities. Neither characters were convincing in their roles, especially Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman.
I also have to say the movie felt too cartoonish where I understand they're trying to target children and family (that's where the PG comes in), but at least, it could have picked up a little more.
I seriously wouldn't recommend anyone to see it at the theaters, that is unless you have kids, but wait for DVD, or even better, wait for cable.
Bug (2006)
Bug was Bugged Out!
Once I found out that BUG was a psychological film rather than a horror movie, I decided that I definitely had to see it. I do appreciate how unique the film was; it's different from anything I've seen. I also have to point out how amazing the actors were. The direction was great and it shows by how each character stood out. I not only understood their motives, but how slowly their paranoia starts to kick in. Although, I only found just these positive aspects, the movie overall wasn't that great.
The entire beginning is a little slow; it doesn't lead or develop into anything. After an hour into the movie it starts to build up only to leave you disappointed. I think that the story could have been tweaked just a little and perhaps it would have been much better. My verdict, pass it to DVD, it'll serve you better.
Hostel: Part II (2007)
This was TORTURE
This is a very cheesy, obnoxious, and predictable movie. Three American girls follow a young woman to Slovakia, but later find themselves being kidnapped and perhaps murdered.
This film lacked character development, motivation, and overall uniqueness. I had a huge problem with some of the scenes in the film. For example, the scene where the woman is bathing in blood; it could definitely had been shorter if they would have cut down the men lighting up the candles. Also, when Stuart (Roger Bart) first untied Beth (Lauren German) but then re-tied her again. It made absolutely no sense. In addition, I believe that the entire begin was okay where we thought Paxton (Jay Hernandez) was trapped and killed, that is until he woke up next to a young woman (who by the way serves absolutely no purpose to the movie) and got killed for good.
Another issue that I had with this movie was how predictable it was. The young American women were so naïve that of course we felt they had to be killed. Like, Lorna (Heather Matarazzo), didn't your mother ever tell you not to go alone with strangers? Again too pathetic. I say, don't waste your money, time, or effort to watch this film, you would truly be disappointed.
The Hitcher (2007)
Not bad at all!
Wow! All I have to say is wow. I really was not expecting much from this movie but this is actually one of the few modernized Horror Films that I have seen.
A couple on spring break travel back home in their car. They pick up a hitchhiker who they felt was trustworthy and in reality turned out to be a nightmare.
To my surprise, this movie is an out of your seat, heart-beating, fast-paced, film. It will keep you entertained from beginning to end, with Sean Bean as an excellent villain and Sophia Bush as the helpless protagonist. Do not miss the chance to watch this movie, you won't regret it.
Vacancy (2007)
Very Straightforward
This movie was very straightforward. It had one purpose and one purpose only; a couple being stalked at a creepy motel. That's it! There was no other story other than that. I didn't think the movie was all that awful because it stayed focus on one thing. It wasn't all over the place, it wasn't a mess, it was just one story and that's that.
To be honest, it really reminded me of older 70's and 80's horror films where there were no plots or subplots. It was always focused on one particular thing. They don't make films like that anymore and Vacancy was actually one of them. I say, go watch it, it would really creep you out.
Georgia Rule (2007)
Not What I Thought
Okay, so the previews to this film only tells you that a rebellious young girl goes to live with her grandmother for the summer in order to straighten out. That is actually not the case! It's about a young rebellious 17 year old girl who reveals a secret and it's up to her mother to believe if she's telling the truth or not.
To be honest, I really enjoyed the concept of this movie. They had a really good plot and a really good theme of a love/hate relationship between mother and daughter. I did not however, enjoyed watching Lindsay Lohan's acting. In reality, this movie would have been GREAT if they had someone else, perhaps a better actress. The character of Rachel (Lohan) is a very sexually aggressive person and it sort of reminds us of the real Lindsay so it takes away a lot from the film.
I do however, think that if you put Lindsay aside, you will enjoy this film. The ending is pretty great (and sad).
Sanky Panky (2007)
Dominican Comedy, Funniest Movie Yet!
This is one of the funniest films I have seen yet. It's based on a Dominican man who's trying to find a white girl, or in his case, a "gringa" to fall in love with him and take him with her to the USA. He pretends to be a manager/director at a resort in Punta Cana, DR in order to attract a hopeless, heartbroken, young woman who traveled with her two crazy and perverted aunts.
I have to say that this is a very funny and entertaining film. It carries a musical background with a very nice ending. You will enjoy the music, the story, the dialogue, and overall the film. I do recommend that everyone sees Sanky Panky, you will truly like it, without a doubt!
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Spidey Come Rescue Your Movie!
Spiderman 3 is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The media, the news, our neighbors, our friends, everyone talked and expected this movie to be grand and to be honest, I did enjoy the movie, however, there is a lot of disappointment when it comes to the plot, story lines, and some scenes. Although the cinematography and special effects can blow you away, the entire movie was all over the place. There were plots and subplots, characters that weren't developed enough or were put on hold. It was a complete MESS; too many things was going on and everything was just all over the place and maybe the reason is because they wanted to throw everything in this movie, in case it was the last, when in fact they could've created another part and extended some of the characters in this film onto the next. But hey, it's Spiderman! You cannot not see this movie!
Next (2007)
Think again!
Although there were a few action moments in the film and an "unsuspected twist," which was not all that surprising, this movie was a complete mess. There were a lot of unnecessary scenes and dialogue that could have either been changed or moved around. Also, I was expecting an action/adventure film and got caught up into a "love" story instead. There were many points in the film where things went unexplained or just didn't make any sense. I do think that the idea of the film was there, but the way it was put together was done incorrectly. Perhaps it would have served well as a novel rather than a movie. I say wait for DVD, it's not worth your money.
